I gulped when I thought about Squatting to failure, 12 breath pause then going again etc. That would be mean. Book me in for that!

Doggcrapp doesn't do that for Squats tho, would be crazy! The DC way with squatting is to do one set to failure in the 6-9 (or was it 11-15? can't remember) rep range then follow that with a 20 rep "widowmaker" with a lighter weight where you can only get 20 reps with.

Looking solid in your pic man. Mean.

I don't care how Dogg Crap training is supposed to go, that's what I'm doing for squats this week! :pfft: :puke:

Please video it! :pfft: I wanna see what happens when you step back out with 225kg or so on your back with your head still spinning from the first part of the set! Remember you only get 12 breaths! hahaha

Quick update

Tues was quads, Hams and calves

Started with 4 sets of Leg extensions working up the stack to full stack. 16-20 reps each set to get the blood pumping.

No squats, heavy leg press for once.

Loaded up 12pps and did 5 sets of 20 reps. Last set I did 20 reps, rest for 12 breathes, 12 reps, rest for 12 breaths, then 10 more reps.

Quads were toasted after this. Tried angling toes in a bit so I was hitting more inner thigh, hammies and glutes. It worked!

Next I did walking lunges with an 80lb DB in each hand.

3 sets of 20 paces. The last set I has to rest after 14 paces for a few breaths then finished off. Glutes were screaming!

Next I loaded up the t bar row machine with 4 plates and did stiff leg deadlifts. 5 sets of 12 reps. Last set I dropsetted down to 3 plates then 2 plates to failure.

Seated Ham Curls were up next. 4 sets of 12-16 reps at 220lb. Did the 12 breath thing on last set and went 16/10/6. Hammies were barely functioning after that :)

Finished with 3 sets of 20-30 reps on seated calf raise w machine set to full stack. I'm doing calves 3 times a week at the moment after a very long layoff (6 months). They are responding very well.

It was a different approach to a leg train than usual. A lot of working sets and no squats. But 2 days later my legs are aching more than usual so that's got to be a good thing

Thursday 19 Jan 2012 - Delts / Traps / Triceps

Warmed up shoulders with a bit of light DB stretches then got straight into it.

Seated Military Press was first up.

Did a couple if warmup sets at 20kg and 60kg, then set the bar at 100kg for working sets.

Did 3 sets of 10/8/6. All the way down to the chest then full lockout. See a lot of people doing half reps here but I prefer full range of motion.

For shits and giggles did a couple of sets of 12 reps DB Shoulder press with the 100lb DBs. Dropsetted on the last w sets at 50lb and 30lb DBs.

DB Side raises up now. 4 sets of 16 reps with the 40lb DBs. Straight back, DBs strictly to the side w pinky fingers twisted up to try hit medial delts. Good burn attained.

DB front raises. Started w 70lb DBs for a set of 20 reps (10 each arm) but felt I was swinging a bit to much so dropped back to 50lb DBs and focused on keeping it strict as poss. Did a couple of sets of 20 reps.

Last exercise was a superset of DB Arnie presses (30lb DBs), behind the neck Presses with smith machine w 1pps and face pulls with machine set to around 40kg. Did 3 sets of 12 reps each exercise. Shoulders were nicely toasted.

For traps I went really basic and just did DB shrugs. 3 sets of 20 reps with the 100lb DBs. Mixed my shrugs up with DB in front, to the sides, rear and a few shoulder rolls.

Close grip bench was first up for Triceps.

Set the bar to 100kg and did 3 sets of 16/12/12 slow deliberate reps squeezing triceps all the way through. On the last rep of 3rd set I actually failed halfway up, bar came back down and I had to dig deep to rack on the low rungs. Its part of the reason i like benching without a spotter, you get a Good failure set, it's do or die 8)

Next I did Dips in the parallel bars (actually its just the guides set up in the squat rack with 2 barbells but it works great!).

3 sets of 25/20/16.

Finished with superset of DB Skullcrushers and rope pulldowns. Did 3 sets of 12 skullcrushers w the 55lb DBs superset with 3 sets of 20 rope pulldowns w the machine set to 36kg.

I am in the middle stage of cutting where you don't look massive anymore and you don't look diced (as mentioned in TWL's journal by Bobsta). It's a bit of a headfuck but I know I will bust through the other side in a couple of weeks and be happy. I thought my fat loss had plateaued a bit but I was down again on the scales to 106.4 so it must be in my head  :clubbed: :banging:

  • 2 weeks later...

Cuts going well.... Sort of

I had my diet written up and we have decided to do no additional cardio than the 2 x 1hr walk a week I generally do.

This means I have to drop alot more calories out if my diet than normal. It is set at 2900 (alot lower than normal for me) and is only basically trace fats. I've always included fats in my cutting diet so it's been tricky to adjust. Getting my head around it now and I'm definitely dropping BF so it's all good. Just flat as a pancake though, and I'm not allowed any refeeds at this stage :(

Anyway did a bit of Oly lifting for a change today coupled with a bit of biceps.

Warmed up with slow full extension Chins.

3 sets of 13/10/9

Then I got into some DB Snatches. Worked up to the 100lb DBs and did 3 sets of 6 each arm.

Next was Barbell Clean and Press. Did some warmup sets at 60kg and 85kg then set the bar to 110kg and did a couple of triples. I still suck at this exercise and basically just muscle the barbell up with no crouching or squatting lol.

Dropped a plate per side and did Hang Cleans. 3 sets of 12 reps with 60kg.

I decided I would try do Barbell Snatches for the first time ever.

Tried 60kg and that was easier enough to pop out 6 reps do I loaded up 85kg and managed another set of 6.

Did a couple more sets if DB snatches then finished on 3 sets of 12 Widegrip lat pull downs w full stack.

For biceps I did Standing DB curls progressing up to the 60lb DBs

Isolation DB curls w arm between thigh, 3 sets of 20 w 30lb DBs

And finished on Preacher Machine set to about 3/4 stack. Did 3 sets of 12 w dropset on the last.

Thought might as well do some forearms as well and through in 3 sets of 20 reverse barbell curls w 65lb On bar.

Went to do a bit of rock climbing Afterwards with the young fulla but I was a bit to fried so just belayed :shifty:

You find some tickets for the 7's? Think it might be cold so you should wear really baggy pants and hoodie just to be sure.

Lol I see what you're doing there bro!

And no I haven't organised tickets yet, might just be a day/night in town with the boys (and girls).

Nice workout man... I don't know about all the way to upper chest military pressing lol cos I am one of those sooks who only comes to the chin.

Seems like everything is coming along very well training wise and you're definitely looking freaky as hell in that pic.

Yeah each to their own, I recall Android saying something similar. He only goes to parallel cos he gets more drive (and its easier) when he brings the dumbbells right down to his shoulders. I find the opposite. I've also been trying to go as wide as possible, seems to make it harder which is good when u have maxed out the DB's on offer :)

I have figured out that I am on less calories then pre comp last season. This has made a dramatic impact in my physique. I'm very depleted already and face around Cheek bones and eye sockets is sunken in. I am not holding much water at the moment and am looking pretty dry and skin is thin. I think I am in need of a carb up meal but I will have to wait a few more days.

Quads are already feathered and hammies coming up nicely. The new approach seems to be going well so I'm happy. Progress pic and bodyfat/weight update before I head to Wellington this weekend \:D/

Today was Hammies

Leg press w Feet at top far edges of plate, toes turned in

5 sets of 20-30 reps w 5pps

Stifflegs Deadlifts on T Bar row machine

4 sets of 10-12 w 4 plates

Seated Ham Curls

4 sets of 10-15 using 220-235lb

Walking Lunges 3 sets of 12 paces w 70lb DBs

Seated Leg Extension - Toes pointed in

4 sets of 20-25 nearly full stack

Felt really really crook after this

Wanted to do some calves but threw up a little bit in my mouth so gave it a miss. Jumped in car, drove home and had to pull over to have a little spew. Cold shower and feeling better now.

I blame that bloody Hemo Rage pre workout I've Been using the last week or so. It absolutely kicks my arse, massive come downs too. WAY more Intense than Mesomorph or Napalm or Jack3d triple scoop and I don't even take a full scoop of it. Might have to give up I it which would be a first for me.

You know it's not a good leg session until you have a spit mate :)

Haven't tried the Hemo Rage. Was going to get some Musclepharm Assault next time round - you tried this?

Haha I always try to push it right to the edge but sometimes go over :puke: :pale:

First time on hammies too, usually just Quads. I guess it's a good thing lol

I haven't tried the Musclepharm Assault (insert Android joke  ), might have to look into it. Let me know how it goes for you
