Cheers everyone. Still going strong. Legs are coming in nice MuscleNZ.

I got a pair of custom posing trunks measured up yesterday (thanks to Trainlikeafreak \:D/ ). I went with Brazilian cut which shows a lot more Glute than the traditional style trunks so that's given me extra motivation to bring in my conditioning.

Training is still going strong. Trained quads with the Waikato teen champ on the weekend and thought id school him with a Soundsgood style killer session. It ended up being me walking away the most sore! The 3 top sets at 5pps were fine. It was the widow maker set of 25 x 140kg ATG squats afterwards and the walking lunges with 85kg barbell that killed me. Just got over the limping today lol.

2 x cardio sessions a day each 30 mins. Carbs have been dropped back to around 100-150/day. Still eating about 1.5kg meat a day though with one red meat meal pre training to supplement the chicken breast.

Looking sharper day by day. Might get some progress pics tomorrow night in my new singlets I just got supplied by www.fitwear.co.nz.

Best stringers in the country! (end plug lmao).

I hope that doesn't require the wax to go with it

Looking awesome in that picture mate, the singlet's lying. Definitely big enough  No doubt you'll disagree though :)

  • 2 weeks later...

No way mate, I'm way to much of a girls blouse to go through a full body wax again! Its veet hair removal cream and a fresh razor or nothing lol.

Training has still been going well although I'm feeling really depleted and tired. It feels like I have about 5-6 good solid hours in me a day outside of that I'm pretty useless.

30-40 min crosstrainer session every morning

1hr weights using moderate weights for me and higher reps.

30-40 min cardio session in evening (either crosstrainer or stair climber)

Carbs were dropped back to 100g/day 2 weeks ago and its made considerable difference.

At my weigh in with my nutritionist I came in at 102kg with skinfolds the lowest I've ever had them. My waist was down to 30.3" \:D/

We have devised a different approach leading into the show which is as follows.

Carb depletion starts tomorrow (sunday) through to Thursday. Just 50g carbs a day, man I'm going to be fun to be around lol.

Then Carb up starts on Friday. 1.8kg of Kumara which equates to 300g carbs.

Saturday morning will be 2 x Sausage and egg mcmuffins and a hash brown =P~

Waterloading from tomorrow with 7l water a day right up to Friday afternoon where I will turn off the taps completely from 2pm. Weigh in starts at 5pm so it wont give me much time to drop much water. I'm borderline on the weight categories but thats not much of a concern. I'll be in whichever class I will be in and with the lower carbs I will be surprised If I'm still over 100kg by next friday.

Sodium loading continues up to Wednesday then I pull the sodium completely from Thursday, but replace it with Potassium. Add sodium back in just prior to the morning show.

I'll see how I look at prejudging before i decide what I will do between then and the night show.

Should be fun, theres going to be a mean lineup there thats for sure.

Heres a progress pic from earlier in the week

This is the last qualifier before the nationals the following weekend. You are going to see alot of the top guys in the country coming in really strong for this show Ninja.

I'd like to think I will have a chance but theres Massive Khalid, Super Shredded Jake Campus, the Ultra conditioned O'malley brothers, Symetrical Lance McMillan and a whole swag of other quality physiques to get past first.

Cheers gymrat, I always appreciate your support mate

30 mins Versaclimber this morning.

Went into Flex after lunch for my last leg session before the Waikato show (next Saturday).

It was actually a depletion session for entire lower body.

Warmed up in the squat rack with a couple of stretching sets.

Then just used 60kg and did 4 sets of 40 reps

Next was seated leg extensions.

Set the machine to just over half stack and did 3 sets of 30 reps, slow and squeezed every rep.

Seated Ham Curls were up next.

Again used about half stack and did 3 sets of 30 reps squeezing as hard as I could

DB stiffleg deadlifts now.

Used 60lb DBs and did 3 sets of 20 reps

Jumped on the leg press next and did 3 sets of 30 reps with feet on top edges, toes pointing in. Just loaded 4pps but was the exact right amount to hit my Hammies.

Walking lunges. 2 sets of 20 paces with 65lb DBs

Finished off with 3 sets of 40 reps on the calf press machine set to full stack.

Legs were extremely hard and vascular after that session. It was pretty non stop, managed the whole workout In 50 mins.

Jumped on the cross trainer and did 30 mins thrashing it as hard as I can. My fitness has gone through the roof lately with all the cardio I've been doing. Ive had to increase the difficulty level every couple of days and I'm almost at the limit.

I'm pretty happy with how I'm coming in at the moment, everything is getting really tight and I'm seeing muscle definition I've never seen before.

I'm on 50g carbs from today which is not much to play with but I got something today that will hopefully help. I went to the Asian supermarket and got Shiritaki noodles. They are actually like a gum and contain hardly any calories. 100g packet only contains 2g carbs. At $2.99 it's not cheap per serve but so worth it! Had it with Chicken and mushroom and a bit of seasoning and it was heaven

Ready for the stage man, looking insane. Those noodles are the business, they are almost 100% fiber and next to zero calories. The Mrs is eating them atm (also competing in Hamilton). Weight watchers jelly is also a good treat, helps fill you up with next to zero calories.

Pretty stocked to find them aye. People who complain about the smell, and texture A. Arent prepping them right, you have to rinse the shit out of them under a tap for 3-4 minutes, then microwave them for a couple of mins. And B. aren't prepping for a show hard enough because these are gold compared to everything else I'm allowed

Thanks for starting that other thread about low calorie tasty foods Riccardo, looking forward to seeing what else I can find.

The diet at the moment is

Meal 1: 120g chicken breast / 5 egg whites / parsley + 25g oats w cinnamon and equal

Meal 2: 160g chicken breast / cup shredded cabbage

Meal 3: 160g chicken breast / cup shredded cabbage

Meal 4: 200g steak / 100g shiritake noodles + cup green beans + 25g oats w cinnamon & equal

Meal 5: 160g chicken breast / 5 egg whites / parsley / cup shredded cabbage + 25g oats W cinnamon & equal

Meal 6: 160g chicken breast / cup shredded cabbage

Extremely clean and it's doing the business

30 mins versaclimber first this morning

Into flex mid afternoon for Chest Depletion workout.

Flat Bench - 4 sets of 20 @ 100kg

Dips - 3 sets of 20 w Bodyweight

Incline DB flies - 3 sets of 20 w 40lb DBs

Cable crossovers - 3 sets of 20 w half stack

Incline press machine - went to fatigue w 3 rest pauses (about 50 reps at half stack).

30 mins crosstrainer to finish.

Still drinking 7L a day at the moment. Have been pissing like a racehorse though and drying out quite well. Weighed in at 100.9kg in just a pair of boxers post cardio. Hopefully I can drop the last 900g and make the under 100s by Friday evening

I haven't noticed much difference between kumara, oats or rice bit I just prefer Oats so that's what I eat mainly :)

So I've followed my plan very closely. The carb deplete on 50g carbs a day was not that fun but actually got used to it

No training or cardio yesterday or today. Dropped my water early today do I could make weight. Didn't really eat much carbs to be sure too.

Just weighed in at 98.9kg so I'm in the open 90-100s tomorrow.

Time to eat a few carbs, still no sodium so no salt or seasoning and no water to wash it down but should be yum all the same.

Good Luck for the show SG, a good, solid prep should lead to a good result!

Being right on the weight and lean is always the ideal scenario,

Good on you too for posting this close to the show as the final week can be pretty draining, look forward to seeing the pics,

All the best,

The show yesterday had Amazing quality. I unfortunately didn't come I'm as sharp as I had hoped. It seems I am intolerant to a carbup. All the crispness I have built up over the past few weeks was lost in the 2kg of kumara on Friday, McDonald's and dunkin donuts before pre judging.

It didn't help that Lance came in super sharp! Ten times better than down in Wellington.

There were 5 people in my class including Lance (national 90-100 winner 2010), Sam Koloa (National 90-100 winner 2009), Talia (Big Tongan guy) and another middle aged White guy I'd never seen before with branch warren conditioning. So it was going to be a very competitive lineup.

I was a good 3-4 inches shorter than everyone else and had everyone on mass and quads but unfortunately due to looking a bit sloppier than I have been looking I only placed 3rd. Lance 1st, Branch Warren guy 2nd.

Didn't make it out of my class but didn't deserve to, Lance looked awesome. He didn't quite win overalls, that was won by the very tight package brought by Teina Omalley. I had Teina 1st, Lance 2nd, Brian 3rd and Khalid 4th. Khalid came in a bit like me, just didn't hit his condition.

With Joe Ulberg, Byron Peach and Lance looming at the nationals next weekend I am reconsidering skipping it and giving myself 2 weeks to get ready properly for the NABBA WFF nationals. I am saying considering because I think I can turn it around in a week. I am lean enough it's just a few tweaks.

In a cruel twist of fate I woke up this morning alot dryer and cuts and separation back where I would have looked heaps better on stage

I think my best plan would be to just do what I have been doing and not water load, no big dirty carb/sodium load. I'm looking good during normal training. Just come in to the show looking like that and I'd look better.

Will make some decisions today.

Was a long show to watch with some competitors in 3 classes...annoying when you've seen them before...4hrs of pre-judging!

I would skip the IFBB Nats tbh. I personally think you had more than water over your muscle. Wouldn't hurt to try and drop more fat and whether u have some to drop or not you can't even try if you're preparing next week for IFBB mate. Give yourself every chance with WFF.

From behind it looked like you had more than water under the skin tbh...if the calipers are saying <5% I'd get a new set.

Also not much cuts in the Quads mate. You stand relaxed on stage between poses but your competitors don't so you don't look as good as you could. Keep them tight, static posing, because our eyes couldn't stay off Lances Legs. Mark Stewaet is the same keeps Legs squeezed and you find yourself missing the other competitors lol

Lance looked great this time and the guy the 80-90 class was phenomenonal. Conditioned and full. Decent upper chest which most others lack and didn't have any major weak points. He'll give Jo U a run at Nats cos he's like a younger version of him I think.

See you at either or both shows mate. Sorry if it sounds harsh btw, not meant to be

I would also skip the IFBB nats week as well plus it will give you more time to prep for the NABBA/WFF nats .That sounds like a good plan mate just stick with what you are doing by doing normal training etc.Perhaps get your body fat checked a week out from the NABBa/Wff nats .

Good report SG,

Probably the most frustrating aspect of bodybuilding is to lose conditioning on the big day when you look great for 3-4 weeks leading up to the show, but you do have the strong point of being one of the biggest guys on the block so I think you are definately on the right track by justing training and not changing things for your next show.

Probably better being your size a razor sharp at 98-99% full like you look in your gym pics than spilling over and bloating by by pushing to be 100% full.

Youre well big enough with out the big load IMO.

Everyone has a different response to the carb load and I think through trial and error you and Jake will find what suits suits your make up best. Some guys get great response from a fat based load even, some just dont change anything, just turn up on comp day after a small early breakfast to keep their waists tight and then get a good pump. This keeps the kind of mildly dehydrated look you get when you first wake up.

Best of luck for the Nationals, I am sure you are getting closer to solving the puzzle mate.

Now you realize, that you need to stop doing twiddly little shit when it's not working. I would say do nationals next week, see what you look like when you don't f*ck around with your diet. May as well find out how you will look better, so you can do it next time around. Sorry to hear about third place, but it sounds like the other two deserved it.

Next time round, eh

Small steps my friend. As Android is saying its pointless doing the sodium/water deplete load & carbing up if yr not lean enough. I would concentrate on fat burning over the next 2 weeks & keep it all very simple going into the show. You have the mass to play with, now rip it up. Shorter harder higher MHR cardio & nutrition that drives body composition which should be tight on carbs. Just my unqualified opinion based on what I know of yr physique & body structure. Go all out hard for 2 weeks & burn the opposition on the day. Good luck.
