First meal at 7am, then 10am, 12pm, 2:30pm, 6pm. No red wine before I go on stage. Maybe just some jellybeans. Last time I was a bit pissed from one glass lol

Always makes me relax more nto my posing routines :pfft: two good shots of whiskey always calms the nerves.

At the risk of appearing ignorant, what's the deal with the booze? I've noticed a few references to red wine pre-comp...now we're breaking out the single malt? Is this a piss-take that I've just fallen for, or is a bit of alcohol prior to a comp beneficial somehow?

I don't drink red wine, so I've always had a couple good shots of whiskey before going on. Helps settle the nerves. I've seen a guy drink half a bottle of port. It's not a piss take - but there's certainly piss taken before going out on stage.

I've been told it makes you more vascular. I thought it would make you look more full.

I've heard the resveratrol in the red wine has something to do with vascularity

It's quite interesting, really. Too bad I'll still be 17 by my first comp :(

Haha just get your bro to sneak to some before you hit the stage :shifty:

Is the show being run by Super Liquor?

Yeah always have tried to hit as low as I possibly can in the squat rack. I have been training squats with the power lifting boys a bit lately. They set up some phone books about an inch below parallel for me and it didn't feel like I was getting as deep as normal.

I used to squat high bar all the time, but have dropped the bar lower on the traps and am using a wider stance when strength training so I can hit the big 300 at this state PL champs I have on the cards in a few weeks time.

Hahaha Ill give it a shot Harry!

Comp on weekend went well. As I said above, my division (open 100+) was scratched and I was grouped with the over 90s. 3 other guys, all 6'2 - 6'4. 99, 98, 90kg at around 3-4% body fat, absolutely shredded. I was 105 on stage, thicker, wider and had much bigger legs, but couldn't compete with their conditioning to win a placing. Any one of them would have won this class at the NZ nats the last couple of years easy, was an awesome lineup. The guy who came third was in the best shape of his life and he was last year INBA Mr Australia. Had to settle for 4th place medal on the night. Not worried at all cos I was just competing for the fun of it. And learnt alot too.

-Don't spend 7 hours backstage if you are the last competitor to go on stage, go and enjoy the show, then go back stage and get ready an hour before you go on.

-Dont get carried away with carbups. They can make you look 10% better, or 50% worse if you get it wrong. I didn't spill over, but definately wasn't as tight at 10:30pm as I was at lunchtime. Should have listened to you more Harry haha.

-Drop your water rapidly, don't do it gradually. I struggled to drop water the night before the comp because I had restricted it to much the days leading up.

-Set your routine and stick to it. I just went through a few poses in my head and when I came off realized I had missed a couple of good ones I had meant to do.

After I got my 4th place medal as I was walking off stage the Promoter of the show, Mike o'mara, grabbed me and told me If I had of dieted for another 4 or 5 weeks I would have won the overall title and I had massive potential. He said I had awesome thickness and Legs. He wants to train me into the end of year comps. He has produced some of Aussies top bodybuilders so I am pretty stoked at the opportunity. Definately a win in my books

On a side note saw the Mens Fitness Model category in action for the first time. I'm like WTF?! Oh well it pulled in the crowds I guess. Will be interesting to see the NZ reaction lol.

And I got a few pics with Ben Pakulski as some of you would have seen on my facebook. Awesome to compare with one of the biggest bodybuilders in the world. A true giant and fantastic humble guy as well!

I think once he sees those pictures he'll realise how much potential you actually have! Good shit on a fourth place especially when you were only doing it for shits and gigs. How much water were you drinking per day in the last week to make it go gradually? (I just want to know so I can avoid it).

You looked awesome bro! Sounds like it was a good experience too!

I know what you mean about the carb ups, had a mate who competed in a CHCH show last year and spilled over big time- didn't even get a placing too.. lost to ribs on stage!

LMAO at the men's fitness class! Sounds like Rakich would fit in there quite well

You should have a go at just lifting it your normal style.. I guess you decide whether you're powerlifting or bodybuilding right? If you want it to be just about being a great powerlifter which no doubt you have in you as well, than just change everything up... I think power style training is great in terms of pushing your strength up, but making form adjustments in order to just shift more weight without the corresponding muscle development isn't. Not for us pansy bodybuilders anyway lol.. I read you have squatted up around 260 or 270 haven't you? So a 300k squat is well within your reach.

But I don't think he uses a belt or wraps, add those 2 in and he'd probably get 300 once he knows how to use them

That's motivated me to try and see if I can do 200 for a triple..

Had a couple of days off from the gym after the comp to get back to normal. Some people love to jump straight back into it I like to take a short rest and ease back into it.

My body has did its usual survival mode trick and once I started flooding it with food and water after being deprived for a while it holds onto everything. From Weighin on Friday at 102kg, I had put on 8kg when I weighed in yesterday 5 days later lol. Hopefully its all water :pfft: :pfft: :pfft:

Started back into it with Legs yesterday. Day off Squats.

Started with Leg Extension. Did 5 sets of 50 at half stack to get the blood pumping.

Moved to the Leg Press which is one machine I rarely use these days. Loaded 2pps and did a warmup set of 30 reps. 3pps did another 30, 4pps for 20 then started loading it up. Did 12 rep sets at 8pps, 10pps and finally 12 plates per side plus an extra 20kg plate in the middle. First time I had leg pressed a half tonne for reps in quite a while. Different burn than what Im used to with Squats. Pyramid'ed back down then moved onto Hammies.

Did 5 sets of 12 rep DB Stiffleg Deadlifts with the 50kg DB's then didnt 4 sets of 21 on the seated Leg Curl machine at around 2/3 stack and finished them with 4 sets of 21 on lying leg curl with full stack.

Calves were due for a battering. Did 5 sets of Standing Calf raises. 21 slow paused reps @ full stack with pitter patters and partials to failure on last couple of sets. Then moved onto seated Calf Raise and did another 4 sets of 21 with 3 plates on it. Calves were feeling worked but I think I need to mix up my calve trains more to stimulate growth in them.

Did 15 mins HIIT rowing then 15 mins HIIT on Crosstrainer and done.

It wasnt a massive leg train, I guess it didnt feel like a proper leg train cos I didnt Squat. Some people go to the pub and drink beers to drown their sorrows. I go to Nando's and eat whole chickens :P

Yesterday was Back day

Still Deloading so took it easy.

Started with Widegrip chins and did 3 sets of 10

Moved onto Deadlifts and warmed up. Didnt have alot in me today so used 220 for my working set. Did a set of 6 then dropped the weight down and did 2 sets of 10 at 180. No stamina :shifty:

Barbell Rows were next up, did 3 sets of 12 @ 80kg

Then Lat Pulldown. 5 sets of 12 @ Full Stack

High Machine Rows were next did 3 sets of 21 @ 2/3 stack each arm

Finished on 4 sets of 21 Lat pulldowns on a fancy machine that squeezed the middle of my back as I came down and to the sides supersetted with Reverse Pec Deck. Something like 30kg for 18 reps a set.

More of a Volume and pump session. Back felt nicely squeezed and pumped after that.

Water has started to leave my body thank god and I have settled back down to around 107.5kg. My diet could be cleaner, but I allowed myself a week off after the comp. Back into it hammer and nails tomorrow.

Here is a couple of pics I snapped off on the way to the gym yesterday. 107.5kg. Come at me Josef Rakic :pfft: :pfft: :pfft:
