I'm also curious about others' experiences with carnitine. I made the usual noob mistake of reaching for a sup when I first got into training, and bought some L-carnitine. I know that I was kinda expecting fat to literally "melt away" which is complete bollocks, but I came away from it with the belief it was snake-oil. With a (wee) bit of experience under my belt, and a much better idea of diet and training, I'm kinda tempted to give it another crack, but am reluctant to waste my money if it is indeed shite.

Sooo, anyone have any positive experiences to share?

The effectiveness of l-cartinine has always seemed sketchy to me.

I was given a sample of GAT Jetfuel:Pyro recently. That felt pretty damn good from a thermogenic point of view :D You can probabley pick up one of those 20 capsule sample size bottles for next to nothing if not free from a decent store. Might be worth a try if your looking for a decent thermo :D

Seems like a waste of money if the body naturally produces it

Body produces testosterone too I better tell Jay cutler next time I ring him he is wasting his money as his body already producing test :pfft:

Yes but test is obviously something the body can utilize when in excess where as carnitine only transports the fat it doesn't metabolize it faster so if the body has sufficient to transport it taking it in supplement form isn't going make much difference. If you have a full tank of petrol it doesn't mean your car is going to use it at faster rate than if you have a quarter tank.

And even if you can increase your metabolism to burn fat faster (through thermos or whatever) I'd imagine the body would be able to produce enough cartinine to cope with demand??

I duno it might be a good supplement I've never tried it but also I have never heard of anyone being told the reason they can't lose weight is coz their cartinine isnt getting their fat to the mito efficiently

well actually since you are carrying around an extra 50 or so kilograms of fuel then yes you ARE going to use it at a faster rate.

agreed.

Looking good TT.

Sorry TT for wrecking your journal.

I would reply to luigi and ask him if the added weight alone of the carnitine pills to a persons body mass is then going to increase their energy expenditure significantly because that is what he is saying with regards to the car.

But I won't

Onya for getting up that early every morning TT

3. Ergogenic aids that do not perform as claimed

The majority of ergogenic aids currently on the market

are in this category (122). These include amino acids, bee

pollen, branched chain amino acids, carnitine, chromium

picolinate, cordyceps, coenzyme Q10, conjugated linoleic

acid, cytochrome C, dihydroxyacetone, F-oryzanol, ginseng,

inosine, medium-chain triglycerides, pyruvate, oxygenated

water, and vanadium. This list is by no means

exhaustive, and it is likely that other substances would be

best placed in this category. Similarly, it is possible for any

of these compounds to eventually move from this to another

category after appropriate scientific inquiry and evaluation.

To date, however, none of these products has been

shown to enhance performance and many have had adverse

effects (122).

this was taken from the latest copy of the american college of sports medicine and peachy has a valid point carnitine does release fat from the fatcells but it cant be used it just swims around your blood stream and back to the cells thats why it feels like your getting a thermo effect

I may be wrong but there a more studies proving that it doesnt work compared to ones that prove it does plus TT i dont think it is going to help you much more than what your already doing

Simple physics you say? Interesting...

I can't really argue with that, you're operating on another level. If you want to continue discussing "physics" start a thread in the playground. Kinda unfair cluttering TTs journal.
