Casien Proteins / Slow releasing

Just a few questions wondering Casein proteins.

Are many people are here taking Casein protein before bed or eating foods which contain slow releasing proteins? E.G: Low fat Cottage cheese?

Have been told it is a staple in most serious athletes diet but I am still yet to get on to ordering mine. The main reason I am looking into this is because I'm sleeping from around 10PM until 630AM and that is a long period of time in which my body is needing proteins but is not getting enough because my last meal is at 7PM. Also what are some easy foods to eat that contain slow releasing proteins because cottage cheese makes me gag?

Hi Fella

Yeh, you're best having a protein shake before bed containing 4 different types of protein all releasing at different rates whilst you sleep...

Remember your body only repairs itself whilst you're in a deep sleep, so a slow releasing protein source throughout that sleep is essential.....

You might want to add a smaller meal of rolled oats porage, before bed to give you slow release carbs....

You need carbs as well as protein to keep your metabolism workin whilst you sleep, otherwise you body will use vital protein as a source of energy...

Good luck with your training...

Hey Dude,

I suppose Im just confirming what Daz69 had to say. I have (usually) for my last two meals:

6pm Fish/Pork Chop/Chicken, steamed veg and serving brown rice

(slow release carb meal)

8pm [last meal] Protein Shake: 1/2 serve of horleys sculpt & 1/2 serve of egg protein w water (sometimes i'll add a tablespoon of skim milk powder, a banana or yoghurt depending how hungry I feel) :pfft: :pfft:

(slow & fast release protein meal)

And tell me about the gag reflex working over time with the cottage cheese buzz!! Someone must shed some light on this ingredient please???

rotien Pudding

A few tablespoons of natural yogurt, 1 scoop of casein formula, cinnamon with a sprinkle of oats or almonds.

I usaly eat tomatoes and tuna. But might have to mix it up wif some yogurt/casein/nuts to reward my taste spuds, sounds good.

i always have about 250g of cottage cheese before bed, i dont have the low fat one though.

it was on special at pack and save yesterday for 500g tubs. i think it was 2.50 each, it might have even been $1.50 each, i remembered it was really cheap anyway. i stocked up.

and yeah cottage cheese made me gag originally, but you get used to it like anything. just dont get the chives one. ever.

I actually prefer the chives one  I eat it with carrot sticks though and find it adds some more taste.

I don't think there are many choices when it comes to Casein powders unfortunately, and they're generally more expensive than whey.

  • 5 weeks later...

Davis trading has Whey Isolate as well at about $680 odd per 25kg but will only sell the isolate in 100kg minimums. I dont think they have casein. But ring them and find out. The last conversation i had a couple a weeks ago i gathered they didnt have it.
