NZ GOVT move to BAN Supplements

That caught your attention I'm sure.

This NZ Government has moved to pass a bill to regulate and restrict access to natural health care supplements. I'm not sure if these boards are interested in these matters, however if there are people who are, I recommend taking a look immediately at the below, as we are moving to stop this bill;

To get educated on the subject see:

It'll never happen though because the supplement industry is huge

Yep, and so is the tobacco industry, the alcohol industry, the number of kiwi parents who thought smacking was ok, and the number of people who wanted to talk on cellphones while driving. To believe otherwise is naive. Successive governments continue to chip away at freedoms, while we the people stand idly by, allowing a vocal minority to dictate.

Apparently if you drop a frog into boiling water, it will jump out immediately to save itself. But if you put it in cold water and gradually increase the temperature to boiling, it will quite happily sit there and die...

Does the phrase "head in the sand" mean anything to you?

Yep, and so is the tobacco industry, the alcohol industry,

which is why tobacco and alcohol are highly unlikely to be banned- there's too much money at stake. the same with health supplements.

Sports sponsorship? Raising tariffs --> raising prices? No smoking in bars? Banning cigarette displays in shops?

Will the government just come out and ban tobacco? Not yet, and maybe never directly. But they don't really need to do they. Do you think the tobacco industry is happy about all the measures being taken to make it harder for people to smoke? Not bloody likely. But despite the size and money of the industry, the government will do as they please.

I notice you didn't comment on the smacking and cellphone ones though. A bit harder to deny huh?

the smacking law is just plain stupid, I agree :nod: . As for the cellphone law, it's not banning cellphones while driving, it's banning holding cellphones while driving. You can still talk on your phone while driving, with a handsfree kit. It's one of many steps to make our roads safer. Sure, it may not be as much of a problem as drink driving, but it's still an issue that needed to be addressed.

i'm not backing the government ( for the most part i don't like National's policies :D ), but banning holding cellphones was definitely a good idea

people that are truly addicted to cigarettes won't necessarily be deterred by these steps though

Yeah - but theres a resession on ... and they'll make more money. They are more likely to regulate with tariffs and extra taxes.

I personally think regulation is a good thing. Imagine manufacturers having to substantiate claims made on their labels with actual - independantly obtained scientific results. :clap:

I think its fair to say that milk whey is not likely to get hit very hard as the focus will likely be on herbal cancer treatments and the like.
