* Frustrating today as I felt like I could crank out a few reps with 140, but it was skinny person o clock at the gym and no one wanted to spot me. asked 2 guys and explained that they could use 1 finger to spot me if required but they still weren't keen. maybe they took a look at me and thought I had no chance and they would be pulling it off my chest :? wasn't brave enough to do it without a spot. maybe organise the next session with gasp, although it would probably be easier to organise a training with Jay Cutler than Mr Elusive.

You could easily spot me on a 140kg bench peachy.... even at that weight a spot (if I need one) would be the equivalent of a 5kg bicep curl. nothing your massive guns couldn't handle.

:ditto: I've never been turned down... despite my twig-like arms!

The folks on the helpdesk are normally pretty good if they're there...

What times you normally train ? Mostly I'm lunchtimes or after work, except on "National Bench Day Monday"... the after-work happy hour on Mondays is heinous :x

Could take them declining to spot you as a compliment? They must have assumed you'd be able to handle it no worries and didn't need their help  Impressive weights, I hope to get to that level one day. How many years have you been training?

I'm about half and half lunch times and after work.... I don't know if I'd want to ask you for a spot tho..... the way your strength's been going up lately you'd probably jump on after I'd done my set and pump out 20 reps for a warm up

Been training on and off since I was a teenager (26 now)..... I had an entire year off in 2007 and went down to 84 kg... but currently at 98kg.

There's normally a few folk around at lunchtimes who'd be happy to spot - some of them are a wee bit short, like Carl the PT... strong as, but I'd be stapled before he could take the load! Philly's good too, it can be quite a good crowd.

You at Thorndon now NZMM? (edit - just read the prev page, heh) May seeya around the traps, I come in around 1ish (varying these days though). Happy to spot if you catch me about.

Haha yea, I had to spot a mate at 140kg once, I think I was more worried about it than he was.

NZMM did you used to train at Club Physical Cuba?

Yep sure did. Thought it would be a piece of cake getting out of my membership after they moved into the shoe box..... oh brother was I was wrong

Long story short.... it wasn't until I started the good old "do you know who I am" sorta talk before they would come to a reasonable compromise :pfft:
