The real start of my gain

tried

Recommended Posts

Not really sure where to start, but I have been going to the gym for around 6 months haven't been for the last month or so. I went with a mate who is alot bigger than me im 6ft1 71kgs an he is around 100kg same height.

I gained alot of weight real fast but then stopped after about 3 months. I tried all sorts of proteins Horleys, Balance etc. I read about eating properly an thought I was. But in the last 3 weeks I have done alot more reading I looked into Mutant Mass, Novedex etc just wanting to gain weight an then I stubbled across a few posts that sort of made me realise that 98% of gaining weight is eating like a horse.

The last job I had was extremly physical I don't know that there would be many other jobs like it. I was lugging around 20-30kg of poison in the hills all day. That probably counted for lack of gain aswell. Come to think of it it's a wonder I ate enough to maintain what I had.

I have just moved to Hamilton an started a new job, a builder which is far less labour intensive.

My mates tell me im quite ripped an that my arms are huge compared to what they were but I don't see it.

I am eating like it's going out of fashion now that I am up here in Hamilton an I swear i've gained weight already. I need to get some scales.

So just thought I would post up some pics of me now (to come later on tonight).

Sorry to rant just thought i'd let everyone know. I will get some protein at some stage but for now im just eating eating eating and eating some more.

I will post up pics as time goes by, hopefully with some changes.

Thanks

Now with better pics added

I wouldn't say your arms are huge bro but to be fair the lighting is shit. You will be glad you took these photos, they will be good motivation to look back on when you pack on some more muscle. You seem to have the right idea - eat like a madman, train like a madman.

The initial growth is indeed impressive, and it levels out. Natural to expect it, also natural to want it to continue.

You need to change your routines every 8-10 weeks (not a given rule, but an average) so that you can constantly challenge your body.

Perhaps a new set of exercises and variations will support you in new growth?

How old are you mate?

How many times a week do you train?

Eating/sleeping well?

How often are you training each muscle group?

Are you doing more compound exercises than isolation?

Just some questions to consider, which can help find a way through this plateau.

Welcome, this is a great local, to hang out in.

No Jigga im well aware my arms are far from huge

I turn 21 in June. Thats the thing I had really only been doing isolation when at the gym. I didn't realise there were exercises more specifically for mass building so I just did arms shoulders chest etc.

I have yet to find a gym here in Hamilton. At the moment im getting plenty of sleep im usually in bed by 8.30-9pm and up around 6am. This is the latest I have been up for a long time. I have stopped the booze also and am getting even more sleep on the weekends.

As how often I train each muscle group im not really sure what I should be doing at all.

What exercises should I be doing? An how often?

Thanks

I turn 21 on 8th June :D

You have a good sleep pattern now you just need to sort the food and program. I'm being lazy here but the5x5 stronglifts is a really good place to start. Get the technique down for the big compound movements - Squat, Deadlift, Bench, Military Press. You will make good gains on a program like this initially and in a couple months time you may then want to look into a 5-6day bbing split - depends how much free time you have.

The other day I ate 6 weetbix for breakfast,2 peices of mixed grain toast, 4 hotcross buns, a museli bar, 4 ham salami sandwhichs(8 slices of mixed grain bread), 1 can of creamed rice, 2 pies and 4 hash browns. Im aware it's far from a good diet but that was just one day is that enough or would more be better?

The Rec Centre is a really good gym. Good equipment and a lot of guys who take training seriously workout there. Not to say there arnt a hell of a lot of idiots and wannabes there too haha. Also bums tums and thighs is a nice viewing experience with all the tasty uni students :pfft:
