hi, this sounds like a lot of fun and i'm sort of thinking about giving it a go BUT in your opinion do you think its feasible for a 50kg women to successfully attempt these tasks or are they mainly for the bigger girls?

i've never actually attempted any of these particular lifts - only done a bit of powerlifting a couple of years back and currently doing strength training to build myself back up from past injury.

what time is your training at AUT on saturday mornings and which saturdays will you be holding the training sessions?

cheers, ali

Hi Ali

the winner of last years comp weighed about 75 kg, so as long as you are strong big doesnt matter for most events although being heavier will help the start of the truck pull. If i am right, you deadlifted about 140 kg or so in PL comps havent you? if so, that would be very useful for this comp

i train at 9am on sats at AUT north shore but wont be this week as i a competing in the miada strongman comp

One of the other guys in our club Mike Olsen is keen to help you girls out training on sun from 10am - 12:30pm or so. His email is jrn1125@aut.ac.nz

he can help you out on Sun the 25th Apr, 2nd May and 9th May

Are you keen to train on these sun? You may need to pay a $9 casual visit to the gym as well though for these sessions.

hi, would really love to compete in this - looks like an awesome challenge but just may struggle with the training times.

i am actually at AUT on the north shore sat and suns but have lectures from 8.30am til 5.30pm for the next few weekends

yes my deadlift was just over the 160kg when i was competing a couple of years ago - not back to this level yet due to the set backs with injury, but would sure love to test myself and do something like the strong woman competition

are there any plans to have one at a later stage this year or are they held as an annual event?

hey good luck with the miada strongman competition justin!

Hi Ali

we may host another one later in the year but unsure at the moment

if you are thinking about doing it i can send you a word document on some substitute exercises that might help

if you are in AH214 for the AUT classes, have a lot outside as you might see us doing some of the exercises on sat

Sounds good thanks for letting us know. Will you post it on the calander so people dont forget. Anychance do you have a poster that you could email me? I could put them up around some of my local gyms for you. The problem with these events is that they are quite often poorly promoted and then people wonder why they have such a small turn out.

Thanks :)

Hi Justin, I'm keen to do one of these if there is anything coming up later in the year. I would actually love to do the one in May but the timing is bad for me and I cant see any way of fitting in enough training for it at the moment.

I'll keep a watch out for any events you have coming up.

Good luck for the May comp - I'll hopefully be able to come along and watch and be inspired.

cheers, ali

Gawd I hope it's going to be clear. I would hate to compete with rain pouring down!

Makes anything with grip a bitch, particularly stones & tyres!

Hope you guys get some sun! Let us know results as soon as they're in?

Nate

highlights were:

1. Diana Perryman on most events but mainly carrying 59 kg each hand over a 50 m course with turn at 25 m mark in 22.31 sec and doing 13 clean and presses with a 45 kg log in 60 sec

2. Mark Thomas' overall consistency in the novice / under 90 kg class placing 5th, 1st, 1st, 2nd and 1st across the five events and being the only novice to place all stones (79, 80, 96, 106 and 116 kg) in 60 seconds. His other notable performance was 12 clean and presses with Dale's 68.2 kg log in 60 sec

3. heavyweights was very competitive, although field seperated in final 2 evens (tire and stones). Highlights were;

1. bloody heavy truck with only 1 athlete pulling it more than 2.2 m (Dominic John)

2. Ryan Hewitt's 28.00 sec 50 m farmers walk with 116 kg each hand, narrowly pipping Justin Keogh in 28.38 sec

3. Mike Olsen's tire flip of 34.34 sec which was 4 sec faster than the next athlete

4. Mike Olsen's 8 clean and presses in 60 sec with the 95 kg log, which i believe would have tied Wookie in 2008. Mike didnt really press any, but did a Kaz where he generated enough power off his hips that it kept going up and only needed lookout strength to complete

hi all

attached is an updated score sheet with the times / distances completed by all athletes.

the second last column is total points (remember less points is better with 5 points meaning that the athlete won all 5 events)

the last column is overall placing in the class

thanks to all competritors, helpers and spectators on the day and for Dale loaning us his log so that we could have two logs going at the same time. the two farmers walks also went really well with lots of really close competition between the pairs of athletes
