Gasp, tell us about the nice young fellow that offered you a spot on 60kg :pfft:

  :pfft: :pfft: yes I did suffer that indignity except it was during a warmup on 40kgs not 60kgs and it wouldnt have surprised me if you had something to do with it.

However as it turned out he was new to the gym and saw the "old senile one" after a night shift doing his routine sad arse warmup with a flat white steaming away and the stench of deep heat and tiger balm breaking through and took pity on me. Needless to say I got through it all and he returned half an hour later with 24 questions.

Now NZMM.... perhaps you might want to explain the difference between a spear tackle and a legitimate tackle and why doing the former of the two allows you to watch the game from the sideline.

I hope that was at Porirua.... otherwise it could happen to me  I might not be so mild-mannered in my response!

It was actualy Club Fizzical Kilbirnie....my last week after giving 1 month notice.

I had to be mild mannered :^o as I`m sure you would be TFB :pfft: :pfft:

I was loyal to Thorndon today though...will post workout tomorrow.

Bloody busy there Saturday morning.

Had a good catch up with Philly too. He`s a great wealth of BB knowledge and got some handy reminders.

Friday 30 April

Last day of the month and had a target set on 170,

Pants feel noticably tighter. Upper thighs looking pretty full and ready.

Now loaded on creatine still and using NFS Superendur EMX for endurance 3 hrs prior and immediately after. ( and its cheap at the moment too!)

Good warm-up on cross-trainer forward and back, however some cramping in calves probably due to creatine....took in extra water during warm-up.

Plenty of side hip raises and 3 sets of 15 back extentions.

Squats

60kgs x 12

60 kgs x 10

100kgs x 10

120kgs x 5

140kgs x 5

160kgs x 2

170kgs x 15 \:D/ \:D/ \:D/

160kgs x 12

Absolutely rapt with the 170.I threw everything into main set and got the target I set for end of April.

Used belt and 2.5metre Inzer wraps for 170 and felt good power throughout.

Finished on 4 slow sets of hamstring curls and calf raises.

Saturday 8 May

In a sorry state today after 5 night shifts and averaging 4 hours sleep. My two year old showed no mercy.

Kept ip maintenance on creatine and 2 x 100grams NFS Superendur EMX 6 hrs and 3hrs before workout.

Warmed up on treadmill 15 minutes

plenty of side hip raises and squat stretches with no weight.

3 sets back extentions.

Squats

60kgs x 12

60kgs x 12

100kgs x 10

120kgs x 3

140kgs x 3

160kgs x 3

170kgs x 1

180kgs x 12

160kgs x 15

Plenty of power today in spite of other issues and previous weakness in mid-section has subsided due to doing 6 x 50 push-ups throughout day two days out from each of the last two squat sessions.

No wraps used but used belt and Inzer sleeves on 180.

Its the all important 190kgs next time.

Nice work, despite the sleep deprivation

When are you going to try the 190s ?

nice work Gasp  getting closer mate 8)

Thanks TFB and Steak...I`ve sort of held back in some areas this round but the job ahead is looking hard as I`ve got to hit the 190 hard in a couple of days then drop back to come through to 200 all by the end of June! (did I originally say beginning or end of June?...anyway its the end of June)

The legs have really come on these last couple of round and anyone who says you can`t add muscle in your 50s is well and truely wrong.

The only downside is that I`ve stayed away from heavy bar-bell rowing to avoid injury thus limiting other gains. Having said that I wouldnt have been able to sustain heavy workouts on all bodyparts with current work-shifts and a two year old. So glad to be where I`m at.

Will have update photo and NZMM will video the "attempt" on 200s because nobody just wants to just read about unsubstanciate claims (in spite of a few forum debates to the contrary in the past!)

Wednesday 12 May

Squats 190s day for the first time this cycle.

120kgs x 5

140kgs x 5

160kgs x 5

180kgs x 10

190kgs x 8

o.k that looks a bit weird doing my first 190 working set after 10 with 180 however there is logic here and it will create a huge improvement next time I come through 190.

Workout felt fantastic. Spotter thought I had another rep in me... I`m not so sure.

Took in good carbs with 8 scoops NFS Superendur EMX with creatine straight after.

Drop back to 175 in 6 days.

Target starting to look achievable but heaps of work to go.

Great journal Gasp. 8 reps @ 190 after a 180x10 is pretty good going with over 30 days to go till the end of the month - i'd say your in good form to achieve your goal.

Thanks Optimass. Theres some days when I forget about my previous workout and I thnk its plain sailing, and then other days when I`m under the bar wondering how I`m going to add another 15-20kgs.

So I took to three 30 minute cardio sessions this week but kept the carbs right up especially 48hrs out.

Friday 28 May. Trained at 17:00

Plenty of warmups

Side hip raises

Squat stretches (no weight)

Squats

60kgs x 10

60kgs x 10

100kgs x 10

120kgs x5

140kgs x 4

160kgs x 2

175kgs x 2

185kgs x 10

180kgs x 10

Used belt from 175 and wraps on 185 and 180.

185 felt surprisingly good and no spotter required.

Supplements

Two shakes of NFS Superendur EMX taken at 12:30 and 15:00, then directly after.

Still using maintenance creatine.

Thats May out of the way.

195kgs next week then drop back to 180 then 190 then finally 200 (with video). Hopefully I`ll be on the pace for the end of June. The fear of NZMM videoing an epic fail for all to see should be enough motivation for me to get the job done!!

  • 2 weeks later...

Bad lead-up week with late shift and averaging 4 hours sleep combined with an average diet so I stuck at 185 for another week and will go to 195 next week with better preparation. However I`ve also dropped 5kgs in the last 2 weeks after Mastertel talked me into competing this year.

....Spot the guest VIP Spotter, who incidentally was sporting a pretty impressive sixpack! and has a bloody good head start.

O.K in the true tradition of "Video or it didnt happen"

Gasp is "unmasked" to give progress pics.

Work-out

60 x 10

60 x 10

100 x 10

120 x 5

149 x 5

160 x 3

180 x 2

185 x 10.

Thanks Steak and VP. Its the first time I`ve had to alter course slightly though and do the same weight as the previous week. Need to get back on track next week with stability in diet, rest and preparation.

So its 195s in 6 days.
