Bad lead-up week with late shift and averaging 4 hours sleep combined with an average diet so I stuck at 185 for another week and will go to 195 next week with better preparation. However I`ve also dropped 5kgs in the last 2 weeks after Mastertel talked me into competing this year.

....Spot the guest VIP Spotter, who incidentally was sporting a pretty impressive sixpack! and has a bloody good head start.

O.K in the true tradition of "Video or it didnt happen"

Gasp is "unmasked" to give progress pics.

Work-out

60 x 10

60 x 10

100 x 10

120 x 5

149 x 5

160 x 3

180 x 2

185 x 10.

Brutal hardcore atmosphere created by Lady Gaga music in the background, epic Les Mills t-shirt being worn by Mastertel in a non Les Mills gym and savage capturing a member of the Gasp fan club unashamedly staring at you lovingly throughout your entire set from the calf raise machine.

Nice work, you made those reps look effortless

So, did you mean back into the speedo for a show, or was that a PL comp he talked you into ?

It`ll be the speedos for one last time...Once I get that out the way I might talk to Old Bull about some PL stuff.

14 June 11:00

Plenty to moan about pre-workout.

Finished work at 0230 this morning but managed a good carbo/protein intake at 0300 to prep for today.

Todays workout comes after a chest infection all last week which has been a blow to progress and five days without any training and some bloody awful liquid codeine to dumb me down (more than usual!)

Motivation wasnt at a peak so was hoping for some good music to get me going. Sadly the so-called "family gym" I trained at today could only play rap "music" with every second sentence "f#cking N*gger". Hardly motivating and questionable as to whether it promoted the friendly family environment.

Thats the whinge out the way.

Cranked things up with two days of re-loading on creatine and supplemented on the day with BSC betablast.

Squats

60kgs x 10

60kgs x 12

100kgs x 10

120kgs x 5

140kgs x 5

160kgs x 3

180kgs x 3

190kgs x 10 (used belt and inzer velcro sleeves on this set only)

Good set on paper but overall sluggish from the start and never felt the power in hips all day. Have to add 10ks to this within timeframe.

Long way to go in 16 days and will have to figure this one out.

Looks like you're on track Gasp!

Some of the best comp squats come after a period of feeling beat down (aka Sheiko!), maybe a lightish week or lower volume coming into D-Day might see you surprise yourself?

Keep it up.

Nate

Thanks Nate. My "moaning meter" has been on high all day, and felt that any more weight could be the straw that breaks the camels back. but will take the positives out of this.

I`ve usually worked out my next workout by this stage but might just do what youve suggested and hit a lightish workout then carb-up, caffeine up, strap-up and get out there and smash the sucker!

Monday 21 June. 10 days to go.

Trained at CF at 4:30. Late afternoon seems the way to go for legs.

Did stretches only. No treadmill

Squats

60kgs x 10

60 x 10

60 x 10

100 x 10

120 x 5

140 x 5

160 x 3

180 x 10

180 x 10

Used wraps (2.5m) and belt on 180s

First set felt comfortable, second was an eye-popper.

190 in 5 days.... then seal the deal five days later.

Not overly confident at this stage but on the right day with a good carb up and two good spotters who knows!

Hmmm - can't say that I've found that... I seem to do better early-on in the day.

Mind you, I have been doing a lot better myself since I started paying attention to the warm-ups, taking a good leaf from your book.

stop talking it down....you'll smash it

Yep, don't forget the attitude... it's gotta be worth at least 10kg!

Thanks Guys....yeah its sometimes easy to ignore the basics even though I swear by them. The warmup and stretches count for heaps and you notice it right from that first set with one plate which I still regard as the most important of the day. Hopefully the attitude will make an appearance too.

200KGS x 7 REPS FAIL!!!!!!!!

Sunday 27 June 2010

That means no video either.

Disapointing finale but with a week of night shift coming up I had to have a crack at it. However Its been a bloody good way to stay interested in legs over the last few months and I can finally launch a new log and training program to get back into bodybuilding mode.

Additionally I was able to put aside some disasterous issues along the way by concentrating on the target. These did not affect the outcome and are not excuses but purely for your entertainment.

1) Getting my foot run over and one broken toe.

2) Drinking 180grams of creatine after a workout instead of carbs/protein after confusing two containers. I lost over 5kgs over two days.Lesson on labelling etc learnt

In the end I surpassed any gains I would have achieved from doing the "same old" every Monday at the gym purely because I had a goal and two thirds of the time-frame I had a workable game plan.

Things really only faltered when the end of June came along a bit two quick and I compressed things in order to make the deadline.

Realistically, if following my own logic, I needed to squat 210-215kgs, two weeks prior, then drop back to 200kgs from there, in order to get the reps.

It worked out up until 190.

I`m going to continue this quest but change the timeframe by retaining the goal and logic and I urge others not to stick with your 80s, 90s etc for too long. Have a goal and change your weight and reps regularly. Do this and your measured progress over 2-3 months will surpass anyone who dosent.

Initially I didn`t know about the creatine thing because I had mixed some flavouring and icecream with a shake but soon after the holocaust started. Made a trip to the doctor who confirmed it shouldnt be toxic. Not highly recommended though.

great work tho Gasp, has been good to follow your progress. 200x7 is still pretty hardcore even tho you fell short.

Its funny I been bagging the All whites supporters all week for having low expectations and being satisfied with mediocrity, so I better stay focused on this and not fall short otherwise I might be branded hypocritical.

Thanks Monarchking. yes legs (and rest of your body) really respond to some higher rep workouts particularly when bodybuilding. Its a little bit different for a powerlifter nearing a comp though.

I`ll do sets of 15 when prepping for a BB comp and aim for 2mins max rest between.

Thanks Runveerun and TFB.

Now I better get my act together and sort out a few other body parts, including Abs otherwise I`ll be downgrading the standard of BB.

I`ve forgotten what a treadmill looks like lately.

Hi Gasp,

Excellent analysis been following your log with interest, and after what you went through 200 x 7 is not a fail.

The "Goal" you mentioned is what a lot of lifters lack in their training, it is good that you have shown what happens and the gains you can make mentally and physically.

The Darkside may have to wait till you have finished with The Lights "BB" but that is one pretty good base to start in PL.

Stay Strong

:pfft: :pfft: The "lights" is to get the mid-life crisis" (or later life crisis) out the way before having some more "fun" with the heavy stuff.

I was serious about the PL stuff so still intend to visit the darkside.

Haven`t got much of a bench these days though. Might have to sift through the logs for a "huge bench and chest inside 3 months" routine.
