Great job mate, very nice weights. The videos are great to watch, KUTGW!

Cheers Phedder, I'm surprised at the weights just out of Rugby season tbh! Let's hope Sheiko brings whatever else is lurking in there out

04/10/10 - Sheiko Conditioning Week, Day 1

  • I ballsed up a bit here and started doing the bench weights on my squat, instead of the squat ones  But gave me a good warmup :D Got some pretty handy technique advice here from OB, and a lot to think on/implement in my squats for the future - especially in the setup - but I have a lot of opportunity to practice over the next 13 weeks :pfft: So will work on this. This session itself was more about the technique adjustment and things like that, so some reps/sets were harder than others as I tried things out. Will be looking to improve this majorly in the weeks to come
  • Bench was brilliant, just a small adjustment suggested by OB changed what was feeling like grinding reps at 90kg, to a very easy finish to the sets 8) I'm pretty confident that once I nail a consistent setup, and continue to practice this small adjustment in technique, that my bench will improve a heck of a lot
  • DB Flies, nothing to report here.
  • Good mornings were great, haven't really done these before - and when I have, I've kind of guessed at the technique - so it was good to be shown how to do 'em properly. They went pretty well, just need to keep practicing the technique again.

And then had a bit of a play around on some of the gear, including the safety squat harness, and prowler. LOVED the Prowler

So I can see the conditioning week being fairly standard as far as usual workouts go... but I'm expecting a big shock once the "true" volume hits next Monday  Still, I'm looking forward to it!

Massive shoutout to OB for hosting me today and walking me through the workout, was cool to meet the Powerhouse boys - and see some 230kg benching going on! Actually, it's the first time I've seen bench shirts in action, so was interesting from that perspective. And I think that's actually the biggest bench I've seen in person (never attended a meet before...) so a great experience for me :)

I'm also starting an IF diet today, and am hoping to play around with an Anabolic type diet alongside it... although I'm undecided about the second part at the moment

The IF diet started off quite well... but after the alarm on my car went flat following the session at The 'House, I didn't get home for my planned 8pm final meal (ended up home just before 10 after leaving Powerhouse shortly after 7!), so fingers crossed tomorrow is a more successful stab at it.

I hit a pretty low carb day today, minus a little bit of kumara in the leftover dinner I had for lunch. Unsure whether I'll go full anabolic diet on top of the IF, simply low-carb (maybe cycling throughout the week), or just try the IF for now. I'm leaning towards seeing how the IF goes by itself for a few weeks, and then may have a look at throwing something else into the mix.

Looking forward to Wednesday's workout!

Another convert to IF, nice. I'll be interested in your thoughts on it as you progress dude. One bonus I found was the extra time you have during the day by not having to stop every couple of hours to eat

I'm currently on IF combined with AD, and loving it

Really good, although I suspect this is what's responsible for a lack of progress in deads

Overall though, it's surprising what the body is capable of adapting to. It's rare for me to feel run down or sluggish, and after the first few days of IF, hunger pains weren't really a problem any more. Sunday carb-ups can become something to look forward to, and Mondays are definitely the days for heavy day (I'm also on Stronglifts 5 x 5).

Since starting this, my BW has remained fairly static, but I can feel some differences so it's more of a recomp than just a leaning-up process. Haven't had any measurements done for a while though, so can't quantify it, just the pinch test. I'll be continuing with this combination til the end of October, then re-evaluating. In the meantime I'll be checking in to see how you're going. SFS is on a similar path, his journal makes for good reading too

Ah sweet, I'm leaning towards just starting on the IF and seeing how that goes before looking at further additions to it, but yeah have been keeping up with SFS

Interested to see how you get along with it too man 8)

Hey D,

Pleasure to have in The House, plus the bonus was to watch some one who squats below parallel from Shiny Land

The Prowler looked like it had you name all over it good couple of drills you had.

Thanks OB1, will be there for sure

the "HOUSE" is dif one of the gyms i need to visit on my Iron Pilgrimage

I feel there's going to be alot of Deadlifting going around Aotearoa today

That there was! TFB and his TP were in the rack next to me deadlifting today, and another guy was on another rack deadlifting. Never seen so much deadlifting going on in the one gym, let alone knowing others from the site are going through the same torture today

06/10/10 - 13 Week Sheiko Cycle - Conditioning Day 2

92.5 today, put the weight loss down to being in a fasted state ( idiot).

  • Incline Bench (sets, reps, weight)
    Bar/40/60kg warmups
    3 x 4 @ 80kg
  • Deadlifts
    Bar/60/100kg warmups
    1 x 5 @ 115kg
    2 x 4 @ 137.5kg
    3 x 3 @ 160kg
  • Lunges
    Bar/40/60kg warmups
    3 x 5 @ 72.5kg
  • Dips
    3 x 8 @ +10kg
  • Core/Stretching
    Hanging Straight Leg Raises
    Supermans
    Hyperextensions
    etc

Comments

  • Bench was tougher than I thought it'd be, funny because the weight looked like it was going up fast, but it took a lot out of me.
  • Deads were similar to bench, the weight looked like it was moving ok, but mentally I was struggling.
  • The lunges were actually technically PBs, not because it's the most I can do (or have done), but it's the most I've actually bothered to attempt. They weren't that difficult really, got a little tough towards the last set but not terribly bad. These should be light anyway, and I'm sure they'll get that way once I'm used to the movement.
  • Dips were ok, again, struggled a little with focus but was moving ok.
  • Core/stretch work to finish up. Wanted to do weighted crunches but there were no spots available, so settled for the straight-legged raises which were fairly easy.

Soooo that'll be the first, and last time I try to do a workout after fasting for 14hours  These weights should've flown up like peanuts but the body was struggling without the fuel it was used to. Reason I went into the workout fasted was because I was sitting around doing nothing, so wanted to get out to the gym rather than sit and wait for the time to prepare a meal, eat it, then let it digest a bit. So I thought it could be an experiment of sorts, and it'd definitely be better to give it a try on a "lighter" day and see what happens, as opposed to trying it in the thick of Sheiko and failing exercises.

I actually didn't feel out of it as such, nor was I hungry at all, but could tell the fast had an affect on the lifts when I went to move the weight.

SO workouts will probably be mid-afternoon from now, after I've had a good "breakfast" down me  Looking forward to Friday.

Also moved the tyres to their new location, will hope to hit those on the weekend, weather permitting.

yeap, theres no getting around the fact that:

lifting sans food< lifting fueled.

thats why i work on the 1 premeal cycle, so i always have one meal in me before training, i find it helps alot. that, and settling into routine.

also it took me like a week to really adjust to IF......

Yep I'll be working to the same theme from now, for sure

The hunger side of things hasn't been too bad for me, it's making sure I get all the calories in the window that I'm finding a bit tough so far, but I'll get used to it.

Yeah this was probably my biggest struggle initially too. You adapt pretty quickly to the hunger, and believe it or not, you can actually get used to fasted training too. I usually train about 0900, and open the window about 1600. I've only had a problem a couple of times with seeing pretty lights after deads

Heh, yeah I get this all the time after particularly heavy deads sessions, well fed or not!

I'm opening the window around noon, so with a 1-2ish start on the weights that should suit me fine I reckon

how many cals you aiming for son?

Errr, honestly? :shifty: Not counting cals at the mo... just implementing the fast for now with pretty much the same food I was eating before, just crammed into the window as opposed to spread throughout the day. Another change has been dropping a few of the carbs in my day (oats have gone, a lot of fruit has gone but still have 1-2 pieces a day), in favour of more eggs + meat.

I'm feeling good on what I'm doing so far, but I'm not terribly focused on cals at the mo as I'm not too worried about the bodyweight just yet, more that I feel I'm getting enough food in for the day - going by what I've been eating recently. In a few weeks (when I'm more acclimatised to Sheiko) I may reassess this.. :)
