New Zealand / world records

Hi guys just trying to sort out whats involved in setting a NZ and world record for the deadlift.

The current world record for over 70 y.o, below 82.5kg class is deadlift is 207.5kg

One of the guys at Crichton Cobbers John Warren turns 70 this year. With his current PB of 212.5kg he will easily break the record.

What does he have to do to make this offical?

Thanks.

Here's the IPF conditions. Basically it has to be held at the national champs at least. In order for the record to count he also has to be part of the federation for at least 6 months I think (for drug testing purposes). Nationals are in August, so he has to sign up for CPA (Canterbury PLing) and the NZPF. To qualify for nationals he first must do a novice competition (to qualify for the regional champs) and the CPA champs.

Requirements for recognition of a World and International record are as follows:

(a) The National championship or International competition must be held under the sanction of a national federation affiliated to the IPF.

(b) Each of the adjudicating referees must hold a current IPF International Referee’s Card and be a member of a national federation affiliated to the IPF.

© The good faith and competence of referees of all member nations is beyond dispute. Consequently a World and International record can be assured by referees of the same nation.

(d) World records can only be accepted if drug testing was carried out on the lifter immediately following the competition for his bodyweight category and in accordance with IPF WADA drug testing protocol. The result of the analysis must be negative and must be forwarded to the IPF General Secretary within 3 months beginning from the date of the competition.

(e) Only bars and discs that are listed on the IPF Approved list of apparel and equipment for use at IPF sanctioned competition, as current at the time, maybe used in the setting of World and International Records.

(f) Records on individual lifts must be accompanied by a total of the three lifts. Single lift Bench Press records made at a three lift (Powerlifting) event do not need to be accompanied by a total but bona fide attempts must be made both on squat and deadlift.

(g) In the event of two lifters breaking either a current individual or total record of the same weight the lifter with the lowest body-weight at the weigh-in will be declared the new record holder. If both lifters register the same body-weight at the weigh-in, the lifter breaking the record first will be the record holder.

(h) New Records are only valid if they exceed the previous record by at least 0,5 kg

(i) All records broken under the same conditions as that listed above shall be recognized and registered.

Yes, he may as well register with the NZPF and get on the drug program so he will be ekligible for NZ, Oceania, Commonwealth and World records. Dont let that talent go to waste OJ, encourage him to try and hook up with the ESB boys if he wants to know more on competing.

I can send through the NZPF forms if you need these. Definitely shoot down to Eastside if you need any info or help.

Nationals are in Christchuch this year so that is all good. If it is a world record then would have to be drug tested and this is about $500 - $600, if we know in advance then we can sort something out and raise some cash. Canterbury champs are in mid April (at Eastside) so will need to lift there to Qualify for Nationals.

Would be NZ third world record in the deadlift with George Anderson 282.5kg in the Master 3 82.5 class and Gordon Fletcher 227.5 in the Master 4 110kg class.

Let me know if you need any other info.

Thanks for the advice guys...

Have got CPL and NZPL forms for him. Will head down to eastside in april then.

Good lifting in the video.

But two more thing that makes John amazing is he only starting lifting after 60 and he lifts raw.... no suit, knee wraps etc.

Here is a link to the draft NZPF calendar, will also be some Eastside club lifts during the year which might be good for John, these will be listed on this forum along with the CPA events in the competition calendar once dates are final.

Looking forward to seeing John in action soon, a few good lifters down at CC hope to see more lifters coming out in 2010.

Great video Best Bench. I never get sick of watching Geoge lift, he does like a static squeeze at the top before he bends down and lifts. Almost a visualisation kinda thing = pretty cool. Also, if you got any videos of Bill Henderson lifting, post it up

That sounds awesome ohjoshua!!!! Any plans of suiting him up?

Congrats on helping John achieve his potential  All the best

I asked George a fews years back what he was visualising at the start of his lift because its so intense - he said he visualises that he is like a spring contracting then expanding, goes over the movement in his head and then when hes ready....BANG!!!. George also has the grip of a titan as you can see, he spends very little time down the bottom setting up he just grabs that bar and smashes it!

When I first saw him lift it was back in 2000 at the Auckland champs and he picked up 282.5kg weighing 82.5kg (Masters 2) like it was 100kg.

Just letting you know that I had a good chat with John Warren on the phone today and the relevant registration forms are now on the way to the CPA Secretary for signing etc. Thanks Josh, Alf and others for being proactive. John is planning to lift at the Canterbury Champs, South Island Champs and probably Nationals. Along the way I hope to see John at Eastside club lifts.
