the army is for fags

If that was true you would have joined up by now.

not everything is a personal attack.

but anyways, been there, done that.

and i still think, the army is for fags.

hense why i bailed. more to life than being screamed at by power control freaks with schizophrenia and deep rooted trauma.

A few things to ponder, for anyone who thinks train driving is a dumb job.

It costs $105,000 to train a train driver. That's a big investment for any employer to make. You'd wanna make sure you picked people who were worth it hey?

It's a job that requires an extremely high level of analytical thinking. For instance, what you gonna to do when you have to come to a sudden stop and you have tonnes of metal slug behind you? You have to know that machine and the variables inside out.

Quite different to driving a bus, I can assure you.

The starting salary is nothing to laugh at either, compared to similar jobs.

Hence rejected 12 x says that possibly "Train-man" is not the calibre of person they want

Pretty simple really, some smuch on the track verses tonnes of metal!!!!!

Different story if semi trailer across trackks, hit brakes start running to back of train :pfft:

My point was nothing to do with Railway Man's ability to perform the role, and I think it's a bit premature of anyone to presume that without knowing how recruitment in the NZ rail industry works.

Railway Man, you're much better off approaching Ontrack directly if you're interested in a job as a train driver.

Only ones that go super fast.

nice - my son was obssessed with the whistle blowin things. Everywhere we went and there was a train we had to stop...video it or take a photo, even got a few of the enthusiast mags for him which were quite interesting. If you wnat horsepower get a train.

How awesome would it be to drive trains.

I bet it'd be more awesome than sitting in an orifice full of pretentious suited wankers! Just think, Mr Dog. You'd be able to hang your head out the window and lap up the fresh air. And if you 'accidentally' hit people in cars at level crossings you can pretend to feel guilt, all the while knowing you did something for the good of humanity. Free of political orifice bullshit. Bliss! \:D/

Well it is certainly worth a try going to the source- good luck.

What I was trying to suggest (and not been mean to railway man) is that perhaps its not going to happen and time to think of another career, hard as that maybe.

Eons ago when i left school i wanted to be a Policeman, but failed eyesight test! know what it is like to miss out on the career you have dreamed about.

Having my own businesses i know what its like to hire people

reason businesses use recruitment agencies is to stop time wasting because it is amazing that it doesn't matter how clear and specific you put the requirements in the ad you still get a lot of wishful thinkers and some complete idiots as well.

Therefore when using agencies you give them specific guidelines, the only time that I would look at applications out side of these would be if there were none that met all the requirements.

On that basis if Railwayman asked the agency what areas that they failed on then perhaps there is something that can be done about it.

I am gonna tell you this,I managed to make it Stage 1 interviews to being a LEMU and there were around 6 railfans around 21 me included and we were told to p*ss off by the CSM because we were railfans and that Tranz Metro has a policy of no railfans working as train drivers or clippies. My dad was shocked that I would do train driving instead of working at the bank when I have Level 3 NCEA maths,he even hoped for that I work at the National Bank

Sounds a bizarre policy, I personally would hire somebody that was passionate about the job.

try going to ontrack as suggested, then if that doesn't work, get into banking.

Follow John keys career path then maybe you can buy the railway!

good luck and no matter what believe in yourself!

It's true, TM are anti-railfans, whereas Ontrack are not

With Ontrack Railway Man, I suggest looking at any role initially, just to get a foot in the door. There's loads of areas they deal with, including the Interislander etc. So keep your options with them open. Good luck.
