Shocking recruiting agencies

Ok

I am on a rant here and it may get a bit nasty.

A few weeks ago I applied to become a part-time clippie with Tranz Metro in Wellington.Currently I work as a volunteer with the Salvation Army doing retail work like handling money and EFTPOS transactions since September and a few days ago the recruiter rang me back saying, she has some people who has worked more than a year at fast food chains and bla bla bla and when my Salvation Army manager asked me what happened I told him what the recruiter said and he told me thats unfair. To sum it up short it was my 12th attempt this year to get into Tranz Metro and what is even more shocking one of the people in there knows my dad as well who I want to get away from due to his book collecting antics which has takenover the whole house which I live in,my own bedroom is even filled with my dad's books

To sum it up,I am getting frustrated as I have attempted 12 or more times applying to Tranz Metro as a Part-Time Clippie as currently I am in my 3rd month working at the Salvation Army Store doing General Retail work,a few weeks ago I got a call from Manpower that they will not allow me in as even though I work at a retail type store

a) What the hell is a Clippie? (obviously it's a wonderful career for you to be so worked up about it)

b) How is 3 months retail for the Sallies relevant to being a Clippie?

c) What's so shocking about the recruiter? They pass on your application to the employer, and inform you of the outcome.

d) If you've applied 12+ times and been knocked back, maybe you should be looking at something else.

e) You're right, the fact that someone may know that you want to move out of home because your Dad puts his books in your room, should definitely outweigh a company's desire to hire a suitable employee. I'm truly shocked, and will be boycotting Tranz Metro as a result of their unfair hiring practises.

f) This is relevant...how?

Recruiting policy from Tranz Metro exposed:

part of Metro breif to manpower is to weed out any railfan or anyone with a

intrest in rail, discrmation I know but try proving it

I was told this by a manpower consulatant during first stage interviews

remember the most of Metro management were apponted during Tranzrail days

including the CSM who does the hiring and firing of Train Crew (clipies, train

managers, drivers)

There are pretty much railfans out there who wants to work in the railways

So 'general chitchat' is OK, except when it's about job agencies and trains? :-s

Railway Man, if it were me I'd try a different approach, e.g. direct through the Tranz Metro website or another agency. Is that the only agency TM deal with? Do some digging. Does it have to be clippie work? What about something with ONTRACK, who embrace people obsessed with trains: Types of work at ONTRACK

Remember to sell yourself on customer service and dealing with the public, in addition to the cash handling and volunteer work. Try to think of as many transferable skills as you can, even apparently unrelated ones.

Rose ok,if you want to be a Train Driver with TM you got to start off as P-Time Clippie then Full-Time Clippie, then Train Manager which I hope to reach,Tranz Metro has some railfans in there which my dad told me about but they were there since the Government had ownership of the Railways so Ontrack is also a option

I think the only cool thing a train can do is derail.

Is being in the army "cool"?

I don't think that has anything to do with the topic

Also I have noticed there are a lot of people that like trains but I have no idea why. What is it that you like about them Railway_Man?

And just for laughs:
