You got your test day this Sat mate?

Nah I did it yesterday, went pretty dismally. :o

Barely managed 10kg increase across all three lifts and felt weak as. Found some solace in getting a 2xBW pull for the first time through.

Not sure what was going on but I'm not too worried, just means I have to work harder when I get back.

Flying out friday night and will be back in awhile 8)

Dude I didn't even make a 10kg increase. My squat stayed the same along with my bench, made a 7.5 increase in Deadlift but that's all good, i'm not worried either i was also stoked to make 2xBW pull

Where are you off to?

Thought I'd bravely chuck up a couple of one-year progress pics before I head off.

No apologies made for the poor quality and awful posing

First is from about this time last year, second two I took just now.

Bodyweight from last year to now has gone from 65kg to 75kg then to 72kg (current).

Not the worlds greatest gains for a newbie :pfft: but if I put on another 7 or 8 kg next year I will be happy.

As far as weights go, my goals for my first year were:

80 kg bench: no, 77.5 kg

100 kg squat: yes, 102.5 kg

150 kg deadlift: no, 145 kg

75 kg bodyweight: yes, briefly

So overall it has been a fun and vaguely productive year. Will be doing some serious eating from December to lose that stick insect look for good 8)

Got to look at the positives ae

However, thought my squat would be way better...busted out 75kg x15 the other week and yet can barely pass 100??

But thats the way it is, as long as I'm improving I'm happy.

Going to Korea for a holiday to see the missus's family, should be a bit of fun and only going for three weeks now so not missing too much NZ summer. 8)

  • 1 month later...

Back in business after a month of no training and surviving on rice, dog and fermented cabbage

Starting back reeeal slow with 5 3 1, easing into it from the same starting point as the first time to see how much quicker I get through the reps.

Have lost a bit of strength and a couple of kgs but overall not as bad as I thought 8)

50kg x 10

70kg x 5

90kg x 5

95kg x 5

100kg x 11

Cheers Rookie. getting in some good feeds of Xmas ham at the moment 8) BW upto 72kg.

Squats yesterday:

Bar x heaps

30 kg x 10

50 kg x 5

55 kg x 3

62.5 kg x 3

72.5 kg x 20

Sets of 20 for a "strength" program is stupid, so I will readjust weights next cycle. The two previous sets (55kg and 62.5kg) were even more pointless haha.

More squats:

70 kg x 5

62.5 kg x 10

62.5 kg x 10

62.5 kg x 10

62.5 kg x 10

Ab Wheel

Today's training was OH Press.

Bar x heaps

35 kg x 5

40 kg x 3

42.5 kg x 8

Messing around

50kg x 3

50kg x 1

50kg x 1

30kg x 10

30kg x 10

30kg x 9

30kg x 10

30kg x 10

Chins:

8, 6, 5, 5, 5

Curls

Nice and cool today, not too sunny or muggy

Good volume and reps on the squats Rimma! Good to hear your BW is creeping up slowly.

High rep sets are good bro, just make sure you mix it up between using good weight and high reps. You`ll get there mate, what sort of depth you getting on the squats?

Thanks man, depth on the squats is below parallel but not ass to grass.

With regard to mixing it up, the first sets (5/3/1) are meant to be low rep and heavy but I have set my percentages too light, hence the 20 rep sets

Then I'm chucking in some lighter assistance sets for a bit of volume and hypertrophy. Hopefully it all works out haha

All good, as long your strength on them goes up and you feel it, range of motion is quite important bro but sounds like you`re getting alright depth.

Just keep smashing them and try diff routines, my quads are shit so I thats what I`ve been doing, they can take a hiding so give them one 8)

Had a funny workout today...feeling lazy and tired.

walked in, warmed up, set a squat record and then thought f*ck it, that'll do

Squats

Bar x heaps

30kg x 10

40kg x 5

50kg x 5

60kg x 5

70kg x 3

80kg x 1

90kg x 1

100kg x 1

105kg x 1 PB

110kg x 1 PB

Then messed around with some front squats and wandered off.

Not sure why I got a PR after squatting three times in the last six weeks but I'll take it haha.

Oh wanna take advantage of days like that! Straight after the squats jump on the leg press and smash it till your almost spewing then finish on the leg extension machine till you can't lift your legs

Haha I was far too lazy to capitalise on this unexpected strength. This attitude is probably why I'm where I am and you're where you are :pfft:
