Hi all,

I've been meaning to start a journal for a while, but I'm a bit of a procrastinator with this sorta stuff  And I've been doing one on my Bodyspace, so can't be arsed doubling up! So in the meantime, I thought I'd chuck a few pics up to show my progress - a lot of this is attributable to some members here who helped me when I asked for dietary advice, and a great welcome I received when I first started a "Hi" thread :)

Background, I started making changes at 102kg (excuse the crap picture, iPhone = no flash, blurred face because everyone else here seems to do it :P):

(there are a tonne of progress pictures etc from week to week that are on my bodyspace if you'd like to check them out - higher res too - link is in my profile)

Remarkably - well, to me anyway - I've continued to lift heavier weights from week to week throughout this weight loss. At the beginning, using bench as an example I could get 100kg for 6 reps (I think a lot of the trouble here was a lack of explosiveness) - that was weighing 102kg. Now, weighing 94kg I can get 112.5 for 5 clean reps. There are similar improvements across the board.

However, although I'm happy with how much I've leaned out, I do realize I have a long way to go. Looking at these pictures I've seen a few things that are lacking (from a bodybuilding p.o.v - width of back, and size of traps in particular). In saying that though, I think I've given myself a great base to work from whereever I choose to go to from here with my body.

For the immediate future? The cut will be in effect until at least the end of the year. Because of my relative shortness (6'0) and playing as a forward in Rugby, I need to make up for the lack of height with power, strength, speed and fitness. I feel at this stage I'm more powerful and stronger than I was when I was 8kg heavier, with the added bonus of having less to carry around which means I'll be more efficient at what I do :) I'll concentrate on power and explosiveness at the gym whilst pushing hard to maintain my cardio levels. I need to find the best middle ground for me between size/strength vs speed/fitness!

I welcome any comments or suggestions, I'm continually looking to improve, and it was mainly due to advice I gained here that helped me get as far as I've come today.

Many thanks :)

Looking great dude, but is that your willy hanging out of your shorts?

Haha ok, actually saw it when I was posting it up and thought "should I point out that it's not a really long, skinny, white shot of male genitalia?". But then thought I'd give people the opportunity to remark on it themselves...but nobody did! So I was a tad disappointed.

So good work!

Anyway, why wait until 2010? It only takes a few weeks of solid dedication to start seeing changes I reckon. No better time than the present :)

WOW is all I can say. Your body looks amazing. Its probably the best one i have seen of all these pix in nzbb. From the first pic... how long has this taken you to achieve? I am wanting to get an amazing body in time for this summer. Can you please help drizzit? Im female btw so do u think a girl doing what u did will be ok or is it a bit too intense for a girl? (reffering to weights). What should i do? How fast can it happen?

Hey, shucks thanks for the praise, but these pics are a fair way off some of the dudes on here

As for how long it took, the very first photo in this thread was taken at the beginning of September '09 (pretty sure it was the 1st of Sept), last photos were Nov 20th I think... so roughly 80 days? So it wasn't a short amount of time, but then again it wasn't incredibly lengthy either...

As for what I did; the types of things I ate, and the types of exercises I did are in my old journal here - which contains the month following these pics. I had a fair bit of weightlifting experience prior to taking this on though, so I wouldn't suggest you do exactly what I did.

I've also just checked out the thread you posted here - I'd suggest a good move would be listening to the posts Im Hungry made re: diet (if you haven't done so already).

What are your weights and cardio like at the moment? I attribute a lot of my fat loss to HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) type workouts, such as stair sprints and boxing workouts. I didn't do much jogging at all... But this all tied in with a pretty good diet. I see you mentioned Tabata training in the thread, are you still onto that?

I also kept trying to lift heavy, improve my lifts, and the muscle I gained gave the body a good shape after I'd removed a lot of the fat.

Hope that helps :)

Ha, I thought you said:

No pressure, mate.

!

Weren't you entering a show anyway? :poked:

I'll have a think on it, but don't hold ya breath! Trickiest part for me is fitting it in alongside rugby, and the rugby-focus I generally have on my trainings  But could be a worthwhile thing to work toward

No rugby over summer, go for it

There are a couple of 7s tournies though, which I was looking at as a good way to keep the body used to a bit of contact in the offseason (+ the cardio aspect too obviously).

That, and bodybuilding training wouldn't necessarily give me the best base for rugby next year... I'm not entirely sure about that. So this is probably the main part holding me back from getting on stage

with your rugby bro you would be getting lean right in the thick of the season could get a bit injury prone from the hard knocks on field when your 6% ouch

I did start this season with a fairly low bodyfat (guesstimate would've been 10 or thereabouts), and I did get a few niggly injuries, but that could've been for reasons other than bodyfat level. But that's not really my concern with the bodybuilding shape/look, more that it would probably be a bit more "show" and not so much "go", and I'd definitely be after more substance to the muscles than a bodybuilding program is likely to provide. But again, it's not something I'm decided on, or even sure what sort of differences would be involved between the two training styles

But yeah I'll be doing something of the sort this year, although probably a little more of a strength focus this year, as opposed to the low body fat focus of last year.

Wow your body looks amazing. So how long did this take you from the first pic up until the last one posted? What you suppose i should do in the gym to get incredibble results like yours? How long would it take minimum if i go hard?

First pic (in this thread) to the last pic (in my journal) would've been Sept 1st to Dec 24th. So 115 days I guess, almost 1/3rd of a year. 102kg to 89kg, with across the board strength increases :)

As for how long it'll take you, that's anyones guess, it really depends on the individual. It also depends heavily on your determination, and commitment to what you're trying to achieve. Good advice from people in the know helps immensely - with this program, I basically forgot most of what I "thought" I knew, and listened to the advice I was given, particularly in regards to nutrition. Most of the advice I was given was from this site - members here are generally pretty good at weeding out poor info that some may post (a lot of it is debatable anyway - you do need to try a few things), and steering you in the right direction.

I honestly have zero experience training females - or even training alongside them! - so I probably wouldn't be the best person to be asking advice of, sorry. However, there are a tonne of ladies on this site with great figures who I'm sure would be able to give you better advice than I can

If there are a few things I would suggest to you, one would be HIIT training for your cardio, another would be train the compound movements in the gym (squat, bench, deadlift), and finally invest a LOT of time into your nutrition. I think that was the "lightswitch" for my training, paying attention to what I put into my body

Good luck!
