Eatme protein.. headachy?

Hi all

I got some whey protein from Eatme.co.nz - I get a sort of headachy feeling after/during I drink it (and beforehand thinking about it). It's not a headache, I feel no pain or discomfort, but that's the best way I can think of describing it.

Anyone else get this?

Greemah, it sounds like you are allergic to something in the powder. The fact that you get your symptoms just thinking about the consumption of the product means your sympathetic nervous sysytem is reacting to the thought of you eating it. This is purely a pschosymatic (kind of like a placebo effect) response of course, but is based on experience your body has had in the past with this product.

It is purely an individual response you are experiencing and has nothing to do with the product in general (other than how your body relates to it).

It could be a number of different things in the powder that you are allergic to, but at a guess I would say the Acesulphame K (the artificial sweetener) would be a good place to start. I say this because allergies to artificial sweetners are extremely common. This is because alot of them are chemicals that are not naturally occuring in nature and are foreign to our bodies.

So you think I should stop using it? I have 3 unopened 1kg bags of chocolate left :(

I do drink a lot of water

What I mean about having the feeling beforehand, is when I think about it I get the feeling....it's not headachy really, my head just kind of feels a bit weird, nothing serious though and is gone after I drink it

Yes I think you should stop using it. But if you are willing to suffer the effects from it then carry on using it. Your body may build up a tolerance to whatever is causing the side effects and may not get it anymore if your lucky.

Try another brand? Someone will buy your extra

What he said. Put up a post on here to sell your protein and try a powder without the artificial sweetener to see if it makes a difference. As HumanPerformance noted, some people can't tolerate artifical sweeteners. Personally, I wouldn't touch any artifical sweeteners with a barge pole. Some can be worse than plain old sugar

I'm actually trying to discourage this. Sorry.

I tried the EatMe chocolate flavour recently, and really didn't like it. I never got any headaches from it, but it's such an artificial flavour/colour it wouldn't surprise me if you were allergic to it.

What I'm doing at the moment is using a scoop of CytoSport Complete Whey chocolate, and diluting it with unflavoured EatMe. The CytoSport has lots of real cocoa in it which settles if you leave the container too long - I take that as a good sign! I find it's a good balance between taste and cost.
