Hi all :D

Last night i attended my fifth bodybuilding comp this one in Welli NZFBB.

I have been support crew for the gym I go to in Greytown doing hair and make up, but really i am in awe of the amazing bodies and crazy dedication you all have for your sport.

I am a single lady of 42 years of age, 5'3, 65 kg and have returned back to the gym after a break. Last year I droped bout 6 kilos and learnt how to eat properly, stop drinking - which was the hardest challenge, and felt the best id ever felt in my life mentally and physically but I seem to have this sabotaging monkey on my back when im starting to look good who tells me to give it all up and go back to the drinker and eater of shit food, um sounds a bit like im loosing the plot, im not but maybe others get this too or have experienced simalar?

My trainer asks me what my goals are and reminds me of these when im playing the lazy card on the odd morning, but I seem to just drift and loose my focus with food and cardio on my days off the gym so I thought after looking through this website for a while I'd post a note and see what came back.

I suggest that you stop having rice flakes for breakfast and have oats, banana, yogurt, and proetin shake

10.00 yogurt with apple

lunch kumera,chicken,salad

3:30 that is fine

tea I would suggest having steak once a week and the other times have chicken with salad

10.00 pm change the yogurt and apple to a proetin shake

You need to be drinking more water because of all the proetin that you are having like 3L or 4L.Are you taking any other supplements besides the proetin powder?

Heya Jigsaw Piece... welcome to the boards....

It sounds like you're exactly like many of us - our own worst enemy! [And for the others too, altho they probably won't admit it!]

There's some really great women on here who can help with advice specific to women's training, and good sources of nutrition and motivation.

It was no accident that there were heaps of references to chicken and broccoli last night... for a bodybuilder, diet is a key tool, and small variations in timing and size can make a big difference.

Like both Mike D and Jonah said last night, you can do it, if you want to. All you have to do, is want to. Are you really so sick of how you feel, or how you look, that you want to change? Put all the crappy diet and feel-good psycho-babble advice from the Womens' magazines to one side, and admit to yourself that you want that "wow" feeling - and you will surprise yourself!

Supps - apart from a good multi-vitamin, there's not a lot else that's necessary in the early days. Some folks recommend glucosamine and chondroitin (a joint-care formula) to help with joint pain (being 47, I know it helped me).

At this early stage I'd recommend staying away from fat-burners (also known as thermo(genic)s), you'll likely get surprisingly good results from adhering to a well formulated diet.

There can never be too many ways to do chook and broccoli - at the same time, one is too many! But, adhering to a good diet is very important step in learning that food is just fuel, not comfort or a reward. Looking "Va-va-voom" hot, now THAT's a reward!
