whats your MMA training schedule??

being nosey :P lol

where you train?

if its anything like mine its intensive cardio based training.

trying to gain weight (i find) is hard with so much cardio.

i think it strips the hypertrophy and adds the endurance.

sooooo, sort of creates leaner muscle rather than bigger.

good work though man. looking fit!!

ps. id so be looking for a KO rather than TKO

haha jj

Ok so today was the first session of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) For those that didn't know. Its been over a year now since i have done any real cardio, but i managed to keep up, we went over various rolls, and ground techniques.

Bag work, working your way up to to 20 punches in a row.. Example 1punch 2 punches 3punches etc, then working your way back, 20min warm up included stepping forward punching side stepping sprawling etc.

For the first session ever i enjoyed it. (it was also the first ever time at my gym for MMA) It was a little bit different compared to the old days of when i did karate.

Bring on tomorrows Fighters Class!!!!! With the gear costing around $150 atm i better make the most of it.

Hey bro I'm looking at getting into fighting next year after I have put on some mass again and since you have had a bit of experience what would you reccomend training in? I have done a bit of boxing but have no grappling or kicking experience. Brazilian Jujutsu is the style most use in MMA isn't it? Also would you reccomend the NZ Fight and Fitness Academy in town or somewhere else?

On a side note... You weren't at a bar in Green Island the other day were you? I saw the exact same car in your profile pic parked out the back??

@Jigga.

BJJ is important in MMA but not essential, you need an all round game to be a good fighter. If your ground game is solid then all the better, however, you get lots of MMA fighters that take the fight to you "Sprawl and Brawlers". When you go for the takedown they will sprawl on top of you and then basically beat the crap out of you.

where you train?

Saturday is just basic's takes downs, ground work, bag work, cardio, and working on techniques, Sunday is the Fighters classes, and its very intense fight training, Practising Grappling etc, some sparring more bag work etc. Very intense for me as my Weights Schedule didnt include any cardio at all. Wednesdays will be intense cardio, and i heard it will be far more intense than Saturday and Sundays Sessions. looking forward to it

I also train out at Olympic Gym with Matt Toa, Appi Toia, Dan Heperi, the club has recently started out there as in just last weekend, Matt and Appi are part of Team Hammer Head.

Yeah id rather go for a KO, as i'm not the greatest with grappling atm ha.

Brazilian Jujutsu is the style most use in MMA isn't it? Also would you reccomend the NZ Fight and Fitness Academy in town or somewhere else?

BJJ is probably best for the ground work, but the reason its Called MMA is so you can incorporate many Styles of Fighting, I trained in Goju Ryu for 7years then hit the gym, and never went back to karate, hence why i am unfit. And where you train is just personal preference, Matt Toa is a big name in MMA down here, but NZFFA is pretty good too, but alot more pricey.... I pay $15 a week and that includes a gym membership and the training sessions etc.

You weren't at a bar in Green Island the other day were you? I saw the exact same car in your profile pic parked out the back??

No sorry.

excellent i doubt i'll be ready for fighting by then ha, but i'll be watching closely....

Anyway tonight was a circuit class, we all thought it would be cardio but no.. heres roughly what we did it was all done for 1.30min with 30sec rest and then a 400m sprint after doing the circuit then back to the circuit again.

Tyre Flips

Pile Drivers Medicine Ball

Sledge Hammer

Chain Pull, lie on back holding chain and pull yourself up.

Punishers

Kettle Bell swings?

Sumo Pulls

Rope Wave?

BB Punches Holding kettle bell

Stall Jumps

Kettle Bell dead Lifts

Tyre Flip Jump

And Repeat after the 400m sprint

Then finish off with a 400m sprint and then maybe throw up if you like... then if ya really keen ya can go do an hours worth of boxing, If ya havent noticed i wasnt keen for the boxing well not tonight anyway.

Also side note, ran out of protein powder yet again on a week where money is tight.

more MMA today, we did a 2.4km warm up jog.

200m jog with wooden poles behind our heads... 10squats with poles, 10bicep curls with poles, 10presses with poles.

200m jog back with poles behind our head. change poles to infront of body arms bent, 200m jog, then same as above then jog back 200m with poles infront arms bent.

Circuit Training, sledge hammers 5 each side, chain press 5, tyre flip, sprawls hips down first.

Then eventually Bag work, 10sec on 10sec off etc for 2mins

Ground work (found out why my hips are killing me)

Rolling on mats for last 20mins

If anyone has a good Hip stretch they could share with me that would be wicked thanks!

Today we did a 90minute fighters session, mainly included learning some submissions, Piggy Backing someone around the gym, Fire man carry, Wheel Barrows etc, we did about 20mins of sparring, some more Rolling trying to submit your opponent, and by then it was time to go home!!

Legs are really killing me atm, so stiff and tight, have stretched and warmed them up before every session.

Ok so the MMA training today was more cardio based than strength, Still in a circiut though, we got separated into 3 groups i was part of Group 1, which had to run around the road 1.2km ish, we had 6mins to do this and did it easily we then had a break, and then into the circuit training,

Sprawls while throwing a medicine ball 10kg

Jumping lunges

Off balance Press ups

Cross overs (press ups)

Some random jumping thing

Vee Crunches

Jumping squats

Sumo Pull KB (similar to upright row)

Military Crunches

Wall Jumps

Burpies

Tyre Flip

Followed by a 400m run and then repeat the circuit then another 400m run then repeat until the hour is up.

then it was a good idea to do some boxing for about 40mins. What a mission that was, but i did my best and kept powering on, boxing is not my best subject i prefer karate, but this all helps.

today at training we found out who was fighting in May, and had to push them hard, so basically it was them on the mats for 3mins each, and we were rotating fighting them over 30sec.

we did some hanging bag sit ups, which my legs were that slippery i fell

Apart from that was overall a good training day.

over the weekend was MMA, was really good hard training sessions, and tweeked my neck on sunday, but it feels alright today.

Basic run down on what we did, Bag work, ground and pound, hanging from the bags for various times,

Sunday was mainly sparring and rolling, with little bag work, and just pushing the guys who will be fighting to their limit.

Back into weights again tomorrow.
