Week #52 - 21/09

Monday - 21/09

Quads with Craig and Brown G - Eastside Barbell 6:00pm

Squats (high bar) 2x60x10 2x100x10 *belt* 140x6 180x8 PB 180x9 PB

Front squats 2x60x8 2x80x8 2x100x8 120x4 PB

Leg extensions 5 sets finishing on 50x20

**180x8 PB was hard so only expected to get 5-6 on second set. But I got yelled at so I ground out 9 reps. Headache and nausea ensues... Pretty happy to PB today considering I missed Quads last week due to illness, should smash these weights next week, although I've set the bar pretty high effort-wise. Back position felt a lot better today - chest was staying up. Those GMs must be taking effect already.

**Goal for front squats 120x8 next week, still getting used to this movement.

Good shit Mike, some strong tri's there dude. Keep training hard.

Cheers, Gus

Hey Fry, Welcome back.

There is a strength/powerlifting sub-forum for the workout journals now. PM Pse if you want it transferred to there.

Hey Laver, good to hear from you. Might keep my journal in this section for now . What happened to your journal, are you doing "secret training" now that you have that FS challenge going with Dave?

Hey bro,

Haha, no I've neglected my journal most of this year.

However, you are correct to some extent, until I have an good indication of that boy's f.squat I will NOT be eluding to mine :). I've had quite a few reasons to pull the pin on the challenge, however he's had some problem too, so I think if things go well for me over the next 9weeks, it's gona be a bloody close one!

I'm sure you will need the biggest dumbells in town. I like the new name of the log- Freak status: In progress. Fits well.

We're needing some bigger DB's up here as well.

Big Sam's doing the 65's for 10+ on seated shoulder press.....WTF I struggle doing 10x65 on flat DB press!!!

Problem with most heavy DB is they get too long & become very awkward to set up? Seen any good ones out there? Nickoli & Jono need ones around 92kg to practice 1 arm overhead DB press - maybe an adjustable monster DB like this would be the best option? http://www.prowriststraps.com/inc/sdetail/130885

Dam you strongmen are just in a class of your own. I thought I was not too bad for an ol bastard using the heaviest DBs in the gym (75s) for one arm rows  But then I'm only a mere BBer! Nice to catch up last weekend with you, Zero & Squat.

Was good to see you boys too, Chch is definately a stronghold for BBing in NZL.

We tend to use the 65kg DB for rows, then wrap the 10 or 20kg chain around our wrists & DB. Seems to make up for not having heavy enough DBs (attached a pic of a friend doing them, a bit blurry but!).

Thursday - 17/09... Good mornings were too easy as well, will go 120 next week

GM's are awesome. So tonight you'll be doing 100% BW (minus a kg or two)... 8)

I guess so, wow I feel week now rose :) Also there'll be no Good Mornings tonight. We have swapped our hamstring and quad days around so we can start deadlifting again (hammie day was day after back). So tonight will just be a light hamstring training as we'll be training them again on monday.

Just to further prove you are old they are 65kg not 75

:-s Ummm, why? Not many people can bend over holding themselves across their upper back aye? Or are my standards really low or something? That's the problem with being a barbell trollop :pfft:

Depends also how you do Goodmornings Rose.

I hadn't done them in 6 months or so & worked up to 180kg just above parallel (have gone over 200 in past). However we eccentuate driving the hips through, like a deadlift, rather than using the lower back to raise the weight. Great back/glute/hammy exercise, helps squats & deads a lot, especially if you tend to tip forward when squatting heavy.

Nate, those monster dumbells look great. What do they fill them with (other than sand) to make them heavier?

If you don't want to change them why not use lead? Have heard of water-filled ones.

Thursday - 24/09

Hamstrings - Eastside Barbell 5:30pm

Stiff leg deadlifts 60x10 100x8 140x6 180x6 220x6 PB (belt) 180x8 140x12 100x20

Lying leg curl 10x10 20x10 4x30x10

**Reduced volume today as we have swapped quads and hams around so we'll be training hams again on Monday. Training alone so intensity wasn't really there. I was also slowed down by a nose bleed from that 220 set, extreme lower back pump from the high reps and my wrist being cut open by my straps. So in the wars. Looking forward to first deadlift session for a while on monday.
