What an excellent idea! Even better that there will be people reading this.

Right, 8 months ago this Friday I gave birth to our first child. I was diagnosed with post natal depression 2 weeks after he was born so have had a pretty rough time. I am still on Loxamine (AKA Paroxatine an anti depressant) and I have a feeling this is hindering my bodys ability to lose weight. I am not over eating or eating the wrong things. I know I could drink more water though. Anyway, my life is full on everyday. Weekends, I work 9 hours a day as a cook so I am on my feet both days very busy. During the week, I ma a full time student and a full time stay at home mum. I have been lucky being able to do my degree fulltime at home so I can be with my son while my partner is at work doing funny shifts. Most days, I also go to the gym. If i can't go to the gym I will go for a walk around the panmure basin (son in pram) and do some resistance training at home. So, I am a busy girl. My goals are-

*To lose half a kg-1 kg a week (I am going to try this for 3 weeks and if I have not seen any weight loss, i will go and talk to my GP about coming off the meds i am on)

*To get back to the fitness level I was at pre pregnancy. I have set myself a 3 year goal to get myself up to scratch to sit the police entrance test. I got to this level pre pregnancy but found out shortly after that I was 1 month pregnant so that idea was put on hold.

So, as you can see, my goals are realistic. I know I am busy but I also know nothing is impossible. I need to take baby steps to get to where i would like to be. When I have lost my weight, i would love to get into body building as a hobby and lifestyle change.

Will post my diet and gym routine shortly

Thanks guys :) Much appreciated

....Just had my boy to tend to. So, I have decided that instead of keeping a written journel of what I eat everyday, I will post everything that I eat. This way, I will be less inclined to have slip ups and will save myself the embarrassment of having everybody here read what I have eaten (Using a bit of smart Psychology here i hope!) I will also post whether I have gone to the gym or another form of exercise I have done.

A typical day in the life of me is (Don't shoot me for what I am about to post lol I am being completely honest here) here goes-

10.30am I get up and go to the gym at 11am.

( I get up late because my 8 month old is hard to put down to sleep so I end up having to stay up until he goes to sleep which can be between 9pm-12am. Lately it has been 1am. I think he is teething again)

I have started trying to eat a little bit of oats with skim milk and sultanas with a banana before I go to the gym. I used to go on an empty stomach but have found I last longer with some fuel. So-

Half a cup of cooked oats, 1/4 cup skim milk, a few sultanas and a banana

My new workout is as follows-

10 mins warm up on stationary bike

15 mins treadmill (I have gone from brisk walking to jogging)

20 mins cross trainer

3 sets 20 crunches

3 sets 15 chest press (30kg)

3 sets 15 seated row (35kg)

3 sets 15 leg press (57kg)

Then stretches.

Get home. have 1 serve of Sculpt (2 level scoops of powder to 250ml skim milk. I am going to try it with water tomorrow) This fills me up for about an hour and a half. Sometimes more.

I will then have about 2 hours later, 4 lightbreads with cottage cheese and lemon pepper tuna. Then a banana.

1 hour later I will have a green apple and an orange and maybe a couple of vitawheat crackers.

Dinner time.....it depends really. If my partner is home I will make a full meal which could be anything. Sometimes if I am not too busy and just cruising along. I will make his meal, a salad for me (or something else not so fatty) and my sons meal. We eat dinner around 7-8pm. I will settle down to study in bed (around 11pm) and go to sleep when my son is asleep. Alot of nights when my partner is at work, I won't have dinner. This is because i am quite busy with my child and I can't be bothered making anything. I might have some fruit or miso soup.I am now also trying not to eat any carbs after 4pm. So I really need to get my eating and sleep times in check. Which means I really need to work even harder and get my son into bed earlier I(fingers crossed!)

So yeah, thats me! Anyway, I will post up what I eat tomorrow etc. Any comments or tips and hints are more than welcome and appreciated. Thanks for listening!

Heya LW...

Realistic goals - and a great ambition at the end of it, to qualify for the College.

My only thoughts are that a diet with a higher proportion of protein would probably assist. Quite apart from its overall popularity in the bb'ing community, the article in the latest North and South magazine tends to say that even for the general population, it's carbs that are the villain, not dietary fats.

I'd really counsel against missing meals - even if all you do is have a protein shake. It's a looooong time for your body from dinner til first morning meal.

Good luck, and keep us posted

Cheers for that tfb. I agree, I need to stop skipping meals. There isn't really an excuse is there? But yep, I am laying off the carbs now. If I do have them I have them around this time of the day while I am still active. Have stocked up on lots of chicken! Will be doing a big cook up today so i can freeze meals for myself and take them out when I need them. Am loving protein shakes atm! Best things ever invented! \:D/ (Makes you fart and burp something chronic though)

Right, so today I woke at 11am (got to bed at 3am, grizzly bubs) had a banana and bottle of water then did my gym workout.

Got home half an hour ago and onto my first protein shake of the day. Going to have a chicken salad afterwards (probably a small one as this shake fills me up pretty good) and a piece of fruit.

Had a great chat with my PT today. We talked about body building and we both agreed it would be an awesome idea to get into it. So, for the next 3 weeks I will be reconditioning myself back to normal then we are going to throw some BB into the mix. I am going to design a diet for myself and should be a whole lot of fun! Will post up the rest of my food that I eat later tonight!

So, I am a busy girl... coming off the meds

You are a busy girl! Heaps of people would do well to read your journal and take a HTFU pill :D

Good luck with your goals. You're likely right about the meds. Those things'll keep you weighted for sure.

Do you do weights for your gym workout or is it just cardio?

If you're doing weights you should have some protein before your workout along with the banana

Yep i do a bit of weights after my cardio session. I will have a shake tomorrow before I go to the gym. i wasn't too sure about having it before I workout because it fills me up so much but will give it a go :)

Just another suggestion but most of us here do our weights before the cardio session

PROS: helps build muscle as you're not burning off any new muscle made during your weights session, more energy for weights = more muscle growth = higher calorie consumption = fat loss

CONS: sometime you miss out on the cardio cause you CBF :pfft:

So here is what I had for lunch and what I am having for dinner-

Lunch was-

1 cup mesculin

half a tomato

1 Tbsp cottage cheese

1 cold chicken leg

2 hard boiled eggs

A little bit of fresh lemon juice for dressing

a green apple

Dinner is-

a bit of home made coleslaw (very boring , just shredded raw cabbage and grated carrot, probably about.....1 1/4 cups all together)

1 1/2 cups brocolli and cauliflower

half a cold chicken breast

1 Tbsp cottage cheese

I think thats all ok, I just need to drink more water

Cheers for that Becbec. Makes sense.....will give that a go tomorrow as well. Not a silly idea actually, would probably be fitting for me as I would prefer to finish with cardio instead of weights. Thanks :)

Yay, new journal!!!

I'm always impressed by people who can juggle children, work/study AND training. :notworthy:

You've got great realisic goals there Wonton, I'm sure you'll do well.

Be careful if you decide to stop the meds. Do it gradually, not cold-turkey!

Good Luck!!!

Thanks Sakura. Its totally do-able though. You just gotta be extra super organised! But then in saying that, I am not very organised but hey, its all working!

Yeah, I am a bit concerned about the meds to be honest. I called my doctor this morning and its been confirmed that my meds are linked to my weight gain. So, we are going to see how the next couple of weeks go and if there is no change in weight, he is going to start cutting my dosage. Looking forwards to coming off them actually. One less thing to think about!

i'll be watching this journal with interest. my wife is pregnant with our third child atm. she suffered from post natal depression after her previous pregnancies but it wasn't picked up on by the professionals( i noticed little things) until after the birth of our second child :x .

not easy to have to go through and hard to watch when you can't really do too much about yourself.

good luck with your goals.

Heya Gazza. Thanks for that.

Yeah its a horrible thing, not just for yourself but those around you as well. it almost split my partner and I up but we are fine now. I think there needs to be more focus on women after they have had thier babies. Mine wasn't recognised either. My partner and I knew something wasn't right and I was always down or angry and didn't want to know anybody. But the meds helped. I hope you guys don't have to go through it again with your next bubs. Congrats on the new pregnancy though! Very exciting!

Gazza thats good to hear. The meds are great for it as well. You feel a bit funny at first but its the best thing I could have done. No shame in it either! When you have kids to look after and a partner you have to be tough.

My diet yesterday-(through out the day)

2x protein shakes

2 chicken legs

2 green apples

a little bit of cottage cheese

2 slices of cheese

1 orange

1 cup mesculin salad

And thats all i can remember. Had to write up an essay so all my brain power went on that and left me with nothing today hehe. Went to the gym and did my normal work out.

Just starting the day now so will post later on :D
