Defection from the Mother Land

dammn sucks to hear that ma'am i hope you get better soon with all the physio/accupuncture  ....i know afew people that had similar injuries seems to be an accurin thing with physio visits this season. hope its not a sign of things to come!

tah mate...the following is what Barry Merriman reckons about PL injuries...

"Minor injuries are a part of power lifting. You will always have cuts, bruises, aching joints and sore muscles when you start taxing the body. It requires skill to decide which injuries to ignore and which to pay attention to. Here are some simple rules of thumb (but don't blame me if you end up in the hospital :-)

1. Bruises and broken blood vessels on the skin and in the eyes are generally harmless, although they can look pretty bad.

2. Same for all manner of skin abrasions.

3. Deep muscle aches and aching joints are common but not a sign of serious injury. Same for tendonitis.

4. Minor muscle tears occur frequently. If a muscle tear actually causes a loss in strength, you need to avoid working that area til it heals. If a muscle tear results in no loss of strength (even though it may hurt while lifting) you can train as usual.

The bottom line is usually: if an injury makes you get weaker, do something about it. Otherwise, ignore it. Its not unusual to train with fairly (even extremely) painful injuries, as long as you stay strong."

interesting point of view :)

injuries suck  , I hope your elbows better soon so we can train

I'm with you there Nessie

Oh poop - that sucks, eh! Let's hope the physio gets results, I know I did a lot better after needling and mobility work... fingers crossed.

Thanks TFB

 poop wasn't really the word I used the other day in my poor me moment...it was more like *&^%$ but it's good to hear that you did ok after some treatment.

Damn injuries suck. Get better soon BB.

Hey VC thanks...I think I'm on the right track with treatment and saw physio today there was definately less pain and she was positive when I mentioned my goals for August. So here's hoping.

I can't speak highly enough of the help I got from my physio (the same one Drizzt used). She accurately diagnosed the concerns, and with needling and deep massage managed to get me back from a bulging lumbar disk and some other issues.

She also taught me a lot of the things I see Steak doing for pre-hab, like dog/bird, cat/camel, Fire hydrants, etc - all up, a really great recovery and learning experience.

I hope your physio's as good, because I wouldn't have made the recent progress I did without her assistance.

Oh hello journal, gee I'm really sorry for leaving you at the station like Paddington bear...I really thought that if I left you here some nice people would pick you up and take you home and feed you lots of marmalade.

Mmm but they didn't so bummer for you. :pfft:

Anyhoo......

Here's an update of what's been happening in the world of bar-belle.

Ditched my first physio as she didn't seem to be getting anywhere with the tendonitis, gave me a session of accupunture that pretty much felt like hot knives for 24 hrs post treatment. Doesn't really make you feel that confident when your health practitioner gives you more pain

So in short had a converstaion with SFS and changed to Adidas Sports Med physio who was awesome  not only treated the tendonitis but immediately picked that I had some neck stuff going on too, hence the numb hands/arms at night. Saw her for 4 sessions and the tendonitis is much improved and ok to begin Sheiko again.

Into week 3 of Sheiko 37 low volume and despite not benching for nearly 4 weeks I haven't lost too much strength (not that I had loads to begin with :pfft: ) but feeling pretty good about my training.

Squat and deadlift coming along nicely too.

:salute:

Nice to see you back, BB... I thought about journal-squatting here but figured you could probably still kick my ass, even with one arm behind your back :)

A good physio is great to find, and yours has clearly worked since you're back under the bar... good luck with it.. but don't make gains too fast, or you too will be warming up with my max

Yip I think I was pretty lucky there. It does feel good to be back under the bar and training with my CBC comrades.

Uhh don't think you have too much to worry about there at the moment.....next year might be a different story tho

WooHoo great result at the comp miss...you must be stoked!!!!

Oh thanks Nessie...yeah it was really good. Was a bit nervous...all the way down in the car just couldn't stop talking but once it was underway the nerves settled and just got into the groove. This comp for me wasn't so much about numbers but just making sure I got things technically right and used to the commands. Was super proud of our Coast Barbell crew. Mel my training partner had some aweome lifts.

Everyone at the comp was really supportive and the refs made it a relaxed and friendly environment. If you did get called for something they explained why. For me I got 1 red light 2 whites on my first bench which was because my left foot started to roll slightly. Made sure I fixed that for the next round  Definately gonna do it again!!

But for now it is head down and back to Sheiko...more work to do!

Maintaining weight at 58kg but just gonna keep an eye on carbs after 3pm.

Mainly training during the day instead of evening and getting at least 2 meals in the tank so I have some energy. Big ups to those who can train early morning :? don't know that I could do it.

Will do GPP/recovery tomorrow and then back into it Monday light workload and then skills evaluation on Wednesday.

Elbows handling the benching pretty well and nowhere near as sore as they were. Haven't been back to physio just doing what she showed me and it seems to be working. Yaye :)
