Hey guys!

Well as you can tell by the subject of my journal I am going on a 9 week cut.. I know Nick's was 10 weeks but I don't need that much time!

Current stats:

Last time I checked, which was a week ago, I was 78 Kgs heavy.

I am 172 cm tall. And my goal is to get to 60 Kgs.

My goal:

- 2 Kg per week.

Lose weight (18kgs) and to gain muscle in the process so that I look toned. I don't like that fatty look on a girl when she has lost some weight on a fad diet, you can tell she has lost a lot of muslce and her flesh is usually very soft and not toned at all. I think they call that thin girl in a fat body?

Diet:

My diet at the moment is leaning towards the raw food diet which consists primarily of raw food, mostly vegetables.

I'd like you guys to critique my diet please :

Morning- Wheat grass juice and 1 glass of fresh orange juice with 2 tablets of vitamin C and an apple.

Lunch - Tuna (in olive oil) sandwich (so a roll of bread or two slices of bread - carbs, should I be concerned?) with a couple of chili peppers

After lunch: 2 Vitamin C tablets with some fresh lemon juice or grape fruit juice. Green salad. Protein shake.

Dinner: after work out protein shake (has around 9 grams of sugar in the shake- should i be concerned?). Green salad. Fresh orange juice.

After dinner and before bed: Egg whites (around 4 -giving me approx 20 grams of protein). Vitamins (E, C, Omega 3, flax seed etc)

During the day: water

I feel I am not getting enough protein and not eating enough during the day. What do you guys think?

My GYM schedule :

Monday - Cardio 45 minutes

Tuesday - Weights for 1.5 hours , 20 min Cardio

Wednesday - Cardio 45 minutes

Thursday - Weights for 1.5 hours , 20 min Cardio

Friday - Cardio 45 minutes

Saturday - Weights for 1.5 hours , 20 min Cardio

Sunday - Rest

All the above craziness starts tomorrow, 4th August. Gives me enough time to get my gear together and read your suggestions. \:D/

So any suggestions?

Looking forward to your replies :)

Erm first of all, theres no way you're going to be able to cut eating the way that you are.

Nick sent me this thing ages ago, you should take a look

12weeks_Women.pdf

You need to be eating 6 high protein/low carb meals a day - hold back on the bread most of all and although veges are healthy, they are carbohydrates.

Second of all, you're not going to have the energy to do 1.5 hours of weights and 20 mins cardio if you continue to eat like this. You'll most likely find that because it makes you feel like poo you'll lose your motivation.

And lastly 2kg per week is an unreaslistic goal.

It took nick 10 weeks to lose 12.5kg and you're wanting to lost 18 kg in 10 weeks. Judging by your diet you don't have the nutritional or exercise knowledge that you need to real this goal.

It would be helpful if you posted up your workout routine and diet each day so we can help you change things around to reach your goals.

I suggest you send Nick Smith a pm cause he'll be able to help too

Good luck :)

Bread i understand, but I am concerned when people say that vegetables have carbs that can make you retain weight...first time I've heard of such craziness. But yes, in excess any good thing can become bad...

thanks for your input but, I'm sticking to God's pharmacy

And to anyone else, please dont advise me to cut back on my vegetables, I dont believe it makes me fat, my body loves it & that's all that matters

Much appreciated.

I agree with BecBec. Why not set yourself a longer deadline? It's healthier to be losing say, 1/2 a kg per week.

i know, I've read/heard that many times, but then you have to think... just because someone tells you that losing .5 kg is healthier, do you have to follow that rule? The Biggest Loser folks lose up to 10 Kgs a week, you dont see them falling over & dying.

I want to lose 2 Kg a week. That's what's going to happen.

Thanks for your concern Vamp.

You do realised that they exercise day in, day out 7 days a week for as long as they're not voted out. All their diet and exercise is conducted by experienced personal trainers and nutritionists.

You'd be voted out first week with an attitude like yours :pfft:

Yes but they're doing it in a controlled environment and are obese (which you are certainly not :) )

You def look keen and that's awesome, but you don't want to go too hard otherwise you'll end up crashing and putting everything back on.

yes i did "bother" to read it... and no I dont agree with it, just because some person thinks they know whats good and whats not... I'd like to ask the author why is it that people on the Raw food diet lose weight without any exercise... all they eat is vegetables... and fruits.

And I take on the advice that I agree with.

Vampire: I can do this on my own... you'll just have to stay tuned :)

By the way folks, I will take photos of me on the scale with a news paper beside it showing the date - i'll do this each week..... if that makes you guys any more interested in my journey! this is going to be fun!

I'll be taking photos of the scale i step on weekly.

Becbec, I'll take photos of my body fortnightly. Where's your progress photos missy?

I just hope with the amount of weight Im losing I can gain some muscle in the process.

And I wont be on here every day recording an entry, weekly or maybe twice a week. I'll just keep a record in a paper journal then type it up on here.

lol how did I miss this thread. Please tell me you are taking the piss because you are about to enter a world of disappointment if you aren't. Trust me, I know, been there, like 8 times over.

What's that suppose to mean?

That you tried to lose weight 8 times over & failed?

Thats a lot of weight to lose in a quick frame time...

You seem very determined and ambitious with goal - which is a great thing to be!

However...

I think you would be very wise to listen to the people who have been giving advice to you. Many of them have been down the same track you are going down and succeeded/failed because of specific they did or did not do - start listening.

Cut off the juice. Its unnecessary and high in sugar. You'd be much better off with water - or if you are consuming it for the energy, then switch to something that isn't so sugary.

A 2kg weight loss is possible but not recommended as potentially you could be causing damage to LBM > the idea is by increasing you LBM (Lean Body Mass) your metabolic capacity to burn calories improves.

The athletes on biggest loser are soo far out of the norm that higher weight losses can be achieved, as the body strives to be a normal fat range - 22-25% is still deemed health for an active female. But as has already been stated - the athletes on the show a strictly monitored and have access to PT/Nutritionist and therapist (mentally challenging).

My biggest concern (amoung the obvious fruit queries others have raised) is the amount of vitamin C going into your your plan. How do you know you are deficient? Why soo much?

Mild VC overdose can cause / Nausea / Strong smelling Urine / Mouth ulcers /Gas / Bloating /Upset stomach

A moderate overdose can cause / Kidney stones / Vitamin B-12 deficiencies / Copper deficiencies / Increased need for oxygen

With long term issues like; Acute Right-Sided Conjunctivitis / Kidney Diseases / Diabetes / Hypoglycemia

Generally speaking > if your urine turn intense yellow you have too much in your system ...

I'm sorry, but I'm with the others on this - in my view, 2kg per week every week for nine weeks is not sustainable.

Predictions: you will likely end up eroding lean muscle mass, not bodyfat. So you'll be lighter, vital stats will be down, but it won't be toned. As you say, you will end up "skinny-fat" and it will be glaringly obvious.

Risks: Masses of analysis of dieting shows that dramatic weight loss is frequently unsustainable - you run a real risk of yo-yoing to your start point, or worse. How did you decide you needed to be 60kg, as opposed to 62 or 65? What prompted you to pick nine weeks, as opposed to twelve, or eighteen?

You could usefully change your perspective - this is not about "doing a diet" - it is about changing your diet for ever.

Your choice of fruit (hi-fructose) may impede your performance. Bananas and other lower-fructose choices may be better.

Your diet looks light on protein, substantially. You could usefully read the .pdf that Becbec referred to, to get a gauge on proven techniques. Then, determine your current lean muscle mass and apply the techniques to your situation.

How much gym experience do you have - do you know you can handle that level of workload - which would be extreme by most standards. Are you sticking to short rest-periods between sents - in which case, on any standard three-day split, should take less than an hour.

For instance, take legs - three exercises for quads, two for hamstrings, one for calves is common. If each exercise comprises three working sets, that's nine sets for quads, six for hams, three for calves, 18 sets. Throw in a warm-up for each muscle group - total of 21 sets. If each set is 12 reps, a set would rarely take more than a minute (12 squats, one minute - easy!). Add in 60s rests between sets - so you're resting as much time as you're working out, it's still under three-quarters of an hour. Warm-up before hand, cool down afterwards - done and dusted in an hour.

But that's just my 2c worth.
