PB Bench: 130kgs X 10, bar touching chest, slow controlled reps and starting to fail.

I'm calling BS on this.

at 100kg and only a year and a half of training that would make you the second coming of George Halbert. Don't think so.

Feel free to come and watch. I have been training chest hard every week for over a year. I don't need a spot for anything 100kgs or under or even help to lift it off. I'm not saying i can bench 130x10 every time i lift, hence why it is a personal best. Most times i fail around 6. Unless you have something constructive to say instead of implying i am a lier then i would appreciate it if you don't spam my thread and take it to PM. I am more than happy to chat with you.

Looking at your other workouts there is no way you bench "130 x 10 slow and controlled and starting to fail"..... 37kg military press and 22kg dumbell press shows you are not naturally strong in the upper body. Even if you were doing double those weights you'd still be struggling to do 130 x 10.

I struggle to understand how you have come to that conclusion. Is it some sort of mathmatical calculation or simply "what you say must be right"... Yes i am 100kgs (creeping over 102 now) but remember, i have only just started training legs and therfore all my strength and size is upper body. Once i have been training legs for a long while my weight will come up a bit i am sure. And to add to this, my traning partner is 85kg and can bench more than me. Although he is using gear but surely your same principal applys...

But i guess it's my word against yours and until you actually see me bench that then you will allways think i am a lier and i can live with that. Because at the end of the day i know what i am capable of and why would anybody bother talking BS on here? It's not like i have to prove anything... Only one person on here knows me and the reason i have a journal up is to keep track of the training and so people can give me some feedback on different things i should try out or things i shouldn't bother doing.

Ok well lets put aside the fact that your military press is almost 100kg less than your bench press and that you only have 80 grams of protein a day and are on no supplements.

You say you can only do 6 reps with 130 now. So you've gone backwards.

So does that mean you hit 130 x 10 in your first year of training?

how much did you bench the first day you went to the gym? 80 x 10? which would be dam impressive for someones first day at the gym.... it would mean you added 50kg to your bench press in one year. hmmmmmm.

Man what a no it all NZMM! Here is an example for you, 1 year before my last comp I started training at 30-40kgs bench and slowly put this up each week/fornight to just before comp benching 80kgs and best was 90, som 60kgs heavier so its doable.

The military press was after many other excercises and muscle strength was down. Not only that, isn't military press a shoulder excercise? I can bech flat and decline with 45kg DB's too, wouldn't that be a closer thing to base your theory on?

No supplements and what ever protien i have is from normal food, i might have a coupe shakes per week after training if i know i am gonna be in pain (like the leg training).

Now here is the full low down on my gym history. A friend and i started in 2007, we trained togeather for 3 months and i could only bench up to 60kg by the end of that. Then i had 3 months off (friend left town and it was summer). Then in March 2008 a started back at the gym and decided to work out harder, i was at that gym from March until August and in that time i could bench 100kg happily, however these were crap as i never use to touch the chest on any sets etc... Then i had from August to October off as i didn't have the time. In October 2008 i started traning with a mate who is rather fullon and on gear, so it only took a couple weeks to get back to the 100kg and after a while my mate started giving me shit and telling me i have to go down and touch my chest, so i worked on that a lot and it is comfortable to do so now. So between December and now i have gone from 100kg up to 130kg. You say you think i may have gone backwards? I put this down to the fact i eat what i want and may not have enough food or whatever to lift on that day, somedays i don't even eat until dinner! Also, it depends how many sets i have done before i get to the 130, sometimes it can be the 5th set.

Because i train with people on gear and refuse to have anything to do with it i train very hard to keep up with them, they get annoyed often as i can outlift them on some things and yet i am on nothing.

The reason i was talking about military press is that your front delts get used during bench press, so to have weak shoulders yet an impressive bench doesn't exactly add up.

But you sound like you are enjoying what you do and props if that is what you bench.

All good, thought it might have been the reason but i feel it on the top of the delts more than the front. That was the first time i have added military press into my workout since last year, it did feel a little easy but i didn't want to over do it. Next time i work shoulders i will see what i can mil press and push myself.

I do enjoy it, i am allways eager to get to the gym as soon as work is over. Training back tonight with Nate so this is going to be interesting!! In for more pain i am sure.

And out of interest nzmusclemonster, how much do you weigh as i see you can lift 160

August 13th - Back

Lat pulldowns - 1 set of 10 at 175kg, 2 sets of 8 at 205kg

Bent over rows - 10@60kg, 10@100kg, 8@100kg

Cleans - 5 sets of 6 at 60kg

Chin ups - 3 sets of 8

First time doing cleans and they are fun! I went for 80kg and got it up fine but the bar slipped from my thumb, managed to catch it but thought i should stick at 60kg. Will go to 70kg next time and slowly increase the weight each session.

Well i am off to Rotorua tommorow night so hope to get a training session in tommorow at some stage or maybe in rotorua somewhere. Also might be away in Tirau all next week for work so will have to find a gym there.

I'm about the same size as you.... 100kg, 5'11.

The bench press is pretty much the only thing that interests me in the gym.

LMAO that says it all NZMM - you bench press specialist you!! :pfft: Just teasing bud!

Ironhyde's an interesting guy, his training history is obviously a bit hit & miss, but he has a hell of a lot of potential. He had never done heavy bar rows, and we got him doing 100x10! With some consistency, (and I see he took my comments on board re: training while away; go train in Matamata while you're in Tirau bro!), and a little more knowledge his other weights will move closer to where you'd expect them NZMM.

Regarding your original callout NZMM, I've never seen Ironhyde bench but his training partner (who is a credible guy and a pretty strong guy in his own right) confirmed the 130x10 yesterday. IMHO if Ironhyde says he did 130x10 I'd believe him.

More importantly I'm sure in 6 months or so it wont matter 'cos he'll do a 150ish 1RM in a comp if I can convince him to!! The Bledisbro at the Powerhouse in Wgtn would be a good place to start - you wanna come and throw some weights around there too NZMM??

Throwing down the challenge??

I've actually been in secret talks with OB and it is a possibility.

But as many heart broken ladies have learnt, nzmm doesn't do committment, so I won't lock it in just yet..... closer to the time we shall discuss again though.

Me throwing down a challenge? LOL hell no!

Maddog tried to lock me into a first to bench 200 (shirted) challenge for the BBro a few months back (I didn't mention I thought I'd be good for 200 then and there  ). I politely declined.

However I am about the same size as you........ so if you wanna throw something down maybe! Not too sure about timing though as I have NZ Strongest Man & Australian Strongman Nationals back to back late Nov/early Dec.

August 22nd - Biceps and truck pulling

Went and caught up with Nate and some of his strongman mates. Was given the chance to do a solo pull on a 10 ton loaded truck, managed to pull it off. Cheers Nate, it was a good experience.
