I gained +50% on my 1RM while training at school. Is that not considered a big gain?

And I thought gaining 19kg (adding about 1/3 of my original body weight) in less then 2 years while maintaining low body fat was pretty good?

I was the kid in my class at school that always got choosen to be the person being carried for any carrying P.T exercise. I was very skinny, now I am a lot bigger so I am happy with that.

depends what your 1rm was, if it was squatting 20kg and you got up to 30kg then no thats not really a big gain get what i mean ? its all relative.

thats a good weight gain but your bodyfat dosnt look that low to be honest more skinny-fat.

pick a decent split and STICK TO IT no matter what happens or how sore your feeling dont take any days off or change it round just do it for a few months and eat decent food and you should see great results

50% increase is defenitely relative as luigi said, I mean I added about 300% to my bench in 2 years. Sounds impressive when you put it like that but it was just crap to start with.

Of that 19kg, how much would you say is muscle? Not trying to discourage you, but judging from your photos I wouldn't say its alot.

As Luigi said; get a decent split and train hard - then you'll notice some real gains.

Have you seen a photo of what I looked like when I was 59kg?

No, the only photo you have seen is when I weighed 75kg.

I would say gaining 10kg of muscle in three months is a real gain.

That was over my army basic training and it is impossible that it was fat.

But I want to gain more...

There will be no update on my workout last night.

I drove from Wellington to Auckland on friday night. Had a late night BBQ with my mum on Saturday. Had a late night BBQ with my dad on Sunday. Drove from Auckland to Wellington on Monday night. Had a shitty sleep because I kept on thinking I was falling asleep at the wheel but I was in bed. :pfft:

Went to the gym last night and just felt sick and couldn't lift f*ck all.

And I was on the range all day today so my diet was fucked.

I went to the supermarket yesterday and got some healthy food to keep in my room so if I miss a meal at the mess I can still eat something.

Drinking 4L of water a day.

Starting Monday I am starting a decent split rather then training what is not sore.

Mon: Chest an Tri's

Tue: Shoulders an Traps

Thursday: Legs

Sat: Back an Bi's

45mins Run/Cardio 5 times a week

And on top of that I will have Army P.T for 1hour Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. (Which could be anything: log carry, hill sprints, a run, swimming and weights circuit, pack march etc.)

At this time my diet is normally:

7:30am - Breakfast

2x Poached eggs

Baked beans

Bacon

Orange juice

11:30am: - Lunch

Potatoes

Peas

Beetroot

Tuna

Steak

Orange juice

5:15pm: Dinner

Potatoes

Carrots

Beans

Roast beef

Orange juice

I know I need to eat a lot more but find it hard to find time to eat more during work, I want to have meals in between all those meals.

I can tell you now, without a doubt, that there is no way that you have added 10kgs worth of muscle. Think about how heavy 10 kgs is.....if you had really put 10kgs worth of muscle on we would see it.

With your army PT training - do you really need to be doing that 45 mins cardio too? I'm guessing your PT training will probably get your heart rate going.

Good luck, looking forward to your split!

I can tell you now I did. I was 59kg before and 69kg after. And nobody gets fat on basic training haha that is impossible. I think it was mostly leg muscle because they grew a lot bigger. And we did a lot of carrying packs which I found really really hard. I think that's why they grew. I don't care if you don't believe me.

Anyway this journal is not about the past. It is about now.

Goal 85kg in 5 Months.

19 July...August...September...October. Why do you find it hard to eat more during work? Find ways, try to be more prepared and carry food with you. Cardio, why so much? 45 mins, 5 times a week on top of 3 hours Army PT? Unless you're cutting to look good in a mankini, I'd reduce :)

Hahaha f*ck I just read this. Everyone loses weight (muscle and fat) on basic...how on god's earth did you manage to slap on 10kgs of muss? And if if was so easy for you to put on lean mass in a catabolic enviroment such as basic, why are you struggling now?

Because I'm working during work? But I am getting posted to Trentham in Wellington at the end of this year and I am doing a different job which will have more down time.

And I want to spend those 45mins running. I want to get my running fitness back up.

I don't know. I think it was the fact that I ate a f*ck load at meal times?

I didn't eat much before I joined.

Oh and I had to really push myself on pack marchs, I think my legs just knew they had to grow :pfft:

Fairy nuff, but how much down time do you need to stuff something in your mouth? I guess if you want to achieve something badly enough you find ways to make it possible etc.

Not when you are working in a building with explosives and ammunition where you are not allowed food
