I know its a hoary old chestnut, but I just thought I would throw it out there to gain others perpsectives. Which in your opinion is the most important in the goal to have the best body you can have - Is it train harder and lift more, or is train hard and eat right.Im not talking about the juice, but if you could put a percentage on it, what would it be?

Now I know that this is subject to which camp you sit in, and the iron monsters will say just 'Smash those weights bro' and eat as much as you can so that you make the hulk look like he's in kindergarten. Then there is the symetry brigade who are all about eating everything right down to the last gram of alfafa...but it is something I do ponder in getting the right mix. what do you think?

i find for me the thing that makes the most changes is my diet.

i still train heavy and hard wether cutting or bulking.

but i can change my weight up or down 20kgs by the food intake.

so the thing that i use as a tool most is the food.

but some people will throw in more cardio so will use training as a tool and maybe not change their food too much.

so for everyone its different.

I reckon its all diet for fat loss and all trainig for strength.

yep you would be semi right but if you dont eat right when in your strength phase you wont get the results you are trying to achieve.

most bodybuilders i know still train as heavy as possible when dieting.

the way i see it you put in 1 hour a day at the gym focusing on your training thats the easy part.

but 23 hours getting diet right for fat loss or weight gain.

get your diet wrong and you wont get the results as easily..

I picked 50-50

I'm thinking it doesn't mean you only give it 50% effort it means 50-50 equal portion of whatever intensity you give to your weights and diet....I hope it means that  else as others have said...it's hard to isolate them both

not strength alone - some (most?) of us don't train for strength

and i've certainly done phases where i've gotten stronger while not comparatively bigger (before anyone launches into the entire weights increasing, size increasing debate > which possibly leads back to diet)

both equally important

can not expect to get more muscular/stronger when not regularly training

can not expect to aid training/recover/grow through an "average" [RDI] diet

>>they frikin recommend 11-15% dietary intake for women. thats around 40-50g and 60-70g for men. what the hell (they expect you to eat more fat than that; 30-35%)...go being an average person with that awesome advice!!

diet doesnt nesesary mean eating less and cutting a person can be on a high carb diet for weight gain and strength gain

try getting stronger on a bag of chippies a day. diet is a word to describe what we are eating its just these days the word seems to make people think of eating less. strength gaining requires a specific diet as well get it right and youll get better results.

android and small you are right both are equal i just find for myself getting the food right makes the most changes cutting or gaining weight.

so for me i find getting the diet right is more important as i do the same routine at the gym

The majority thinks diet's more important... and so do I.

They're both important. But you could go without training for a week or two and still keep most of your muscle mass and strength intact if you eat right.

Try starving yourself for a couple of days, your performance will drop like a dead fly no matter how hard you train.

I dont know too many people who have increased the strength of their bench without training...

but i have seen LOTS of people increase the strength of their bench while training hard and eating shit.

not saying either is optimal it just demonstrates what is more important with regard to strength. (but strength prob isnt too important to bbers)

i actually thought the question was whats more important to get the best body you can

your obsessed with strength maybe thats your goal.

i have seen guys get stronger eating crap as well its calories regardless of where they come from but doesnt mean they will achieve a great body.

and being strong doesnt equate to having a great physique.

also some bbs train very heavy and some doesnt evryone is different in their approach.

but get the food intake right and you can change your body shape dramatically

i actually thought the question was whats more important to get the best body you can

and you were wrong...

the question just said what is more important... I was trying to make the point of more important for what...

that a larger proportion of either training or nutrition is more important depending on what you are trying to acheive.

lol

Here's my thoughts.

As far as progressing in your field (I don't mean against any1, just yourself.)

Bodybuilding - 80% Nutrition, 20% Training.

Power lifting - 40% Nutrition, 60% Training.

Olympic Lifting - 30% Nutrition, 70% Training.

read the question again whats more important diet or training to achieve the best body you can

that is what the person who made this thread was saying in order to achieve nothing to do with strength etc

so why the lol at least i understand a question thats asked.
