Nice chest/tri workout with a wee bit of shoulders for good measure today. Weights are up again from the last few weeks, still not up to full strength, but really pleased with today's efforts.

In other news, my sister and niece arrived safely from Chch on Thursday night and it's been great having them here and away from all the chaos down there. Especially as her partner works for Downer and has been working in the CBD and all over working on the phone networks (they're contracted by both Voda and Telecom, so he's been involved in getting both those networks up and running). Because he's been on call he hasn't been allowed to stay at home (Heathcote Valley, which is just over the Port Hills on the other side of Lyttleton) but instead in an apartment in the CBD, which has added a bit more stress to my sister who already wasn't coping too well.

Yeah, I reckon it probably does, all that lifting stuff and carrying it about sounds like a workout to me! Especially if you picked boxes up and put them back down again several times before actually moving them :pfft:

Extra legs, triceps and shoulders today. Short and sweet. Busy.

Long walk home - one week left of walking challenge and bloody MAF are beating us for the Logan Brown lunch prize by such a little bit it drives me crazy. Every time we go ahead by a few KMs, they bloody well log more walks.

Wish I'd picked my team more carefully and only got people who actually get off their arses and walk, and we might have had a good chance for the 'KMs per person' prize - we've got 6 in our team and 3 lazy arses, but the other 3 of us walk heaps.

I'm currently responsible for 45% of our team's walks - wish I could have been in a team of 1 and I totally would've won, but they don't let you do that

Chest, triceps, shoulders this morning. All good.

Will spend more quality time on my workouts after next weekend, once the walking challenge is over and my long weekend away at WOMAD. Once that's all done with, it's back to regular training with no long weekends or other random activities to take up lots of my time. Looking forward to it, as I caught sight of my arms in a shop window the other day and in that particular light my shoulders looked pretty good - so ready to work hard to make them look great

Busy day today and the next few days (mainly because there are only 3 more days of walking challenge, so want to give it my all even though I think we're only going to come second). So did a quick legs workout, squats, lunges and SLDLs before walking to the Basin for the cricket this afternoon.

We're currently 55km behind MAF in the walking challenge, and 350km ahead of the team in 3rd place. There are 84 teams participating, so I'm pretty pleased with our effort, but also very frustrated that some of the others aren't bothering to put in a bit of effort and help us win, since there's no second prize.

Saying that, I had been holding back logging some of our walks, and only just today logged my Wed-half of today's walks, so hopefully some of the others still have a few big walks they haven't yet logged. But then again, MAF probably do. Worthy competitors. Shame the same can't be said for half of my teammates (though I completely forgive one of them who lost her cousin who she was raised with in the Chch quake so quite rightly has had more important things on her mind than a silly walking challenge. I don't forgive the others who haven't had recent bereavements though - if you don't want to compete, don't join the team).

Well, I seem to have had one excuse after another so far this year, and have had trouble getting back into a solid programme with everything that seems to be on over summer. It's not like my life is an amazing social whirl, but it just seems to be a bit more difficult to make time to get to the gym this summer than it generally is in winter. But now WOMAD weekend is over, which traditionally marks the end of summer (and true to form, the weather has turned to poo), so time to stop making excuses and get back into it.

No opportunity for weekend workouts last weekend (was at WOMAD), which is always a shame, as I have more time then. So this week (Tue-Thur) will just be minimal so as not to be a complete lazy arse, then a break on Friday before fully starting properly for the year this Saturday. Ideally I'll go to gym both Sat and Sun from now on so that upper and lower body get a good seeing to for a solid hour each week, with shorter lunchtime workouts during the week.

Also need to get my eating back on track. Have been drinking way too much alcohol over summer, plus generally bad eating (waaaaay too many grapefruit and lemon Frujus!), and feeling fat and revolting as a result. Luckily all that walking for the walking challenge has kept me at a relatively stable weight - but I don't feel like I look great, so need to fix that too.

So yesterday was just a quick bench/CG bench/ shoulders workout. Was lovely and quiet in the gym, hardly anyone around. I'm likeing this mass exodus, means way more room for me!

Haha, yes, in theory!

I did a nice legs workout this lunchtime. Despite the weights being extremely low (40kg squats, 30kg lunges and SLDLS) my legs are completely exhausted and every time I have to get up and walk around I just want to collapse in a heap!

Sticking with the lower weights for now and working on form, as I seem to have trouble with keeping good form on legs right now - not sure why, as I used to be pretty good with squats. But no matter - I guess if my legs are feeling this knackered then it must mean I've done some work, and that will surely translate into gorgeously hot legs somewhere down the line :pfft:

Sore lower half didn't stop me doing a nice upper body workout today. Meant to be back/biceps day, but since it's already Thursday and I'll need a break tomorrow before going hard on Chest/triceps/shoulders on Saturday I thought I'd just do minimal back and chuck in some extra arm work since my arms really need the work.

So today was all about lat pulldowns, tricep pulldowns, bicep curls (21s), upright rows, tricep kickbacks, lat raises and concentration curls.

I'm now a bit shaky all over, with the leg DOMS from yesterday and the arms feeling buggered after today!

How long do u stretch for after you work out?

Probably not long enough - I tend to do most of my stretching while resting between sets of the next exercise/muscle - so for example, I'll stretch quads once I'm finished squats and generally while I'm doing SLDLs, then stretch hammies in between calf raise sets, then just a quick stretch of whatever is left at the end - and I do mean a quick stretch. So yeah, probably should be doing more.

Jumped on scales today for the first time in a while. Not good news (hence not getting on them for a while!). So my weight hasn't changed too much, only up a couple of kilos from mid Dec when I went on holiday, but the BF has jumped up enormously, 4 percentage points.

I guess that kind of change says a few things about how I've been treating my body over this 3 month extended holiday period!

Firstly, the higher fat but not as high weight increase coupled with my decreased strength says a lot about the state of my muscles right now - they have disappeared!

Secondly, the fact that I've been back in the gym for 9 weeks now, eating more, but still not gaining back my strength/muscle from last year might suggest that strength gains/muscle gains are more about the quality of my calorie intake rather than just the fact that my calories are higher. I know that one is a bit controversial, and that some say 'just eat and you'll get strong, clean eating is nonsense' - but I'm not entirely sure that grapefruit and lemon Frujus are the best kind of thing to be eating, nevermind passionfruit 42 below :naughty:

I guess I'm going to have to go back to keeping a food journal again to keep me honest  And lay off the late night cheese :shifty:
