Yep, weather was a bit poo. I was lucky enough to have box tickets in a very awesome box right on the centre line, so wasn't cold or wet. Ventured downstairs a couple of times though - slight lack of atmosphere up in the boxes - but lots of free food and drink

So I haven't done much of anything since Thursday other than eat and drink :pfft: . Was going to go to gym today, but after 2 days of Sevens I decided that I really wouldn't manage a good workout, so instead I'll make a huge effort tomorrow and go hard, with legs and some upper body work. Have to skip Tue and Wed too as need to go down to Chch for work, so will work hard tomorrow.

Drove past you walking in Jville today, doing the trek into town? Was thinking of doing that today but realised I couldn't be arsed when I woke up :pfft:

Nah, was working from home today, so did an early trip to the man cave before coming back home for a few hours work, then 2 more trips to J'ville to do bits and pieces (gotta find as many excuses to walk so I can log lots of walks on my team challenge, and courier post helped me out by not having my delivery ready at the J'ville post shop around 12 like they said it would be, forcing me to do a third walk back this afternoon to pick up my box of goodies!).

So had a nice big workout on Monday (chest, triceps and legs) to make up for a work trip to Chch yesterday and today, so no gym time.

It's now week 3 of getting back into things for the year, and I'm improving weekly, but taking longer than I thought to get up to standard. My squats are appalling at 40kg and form is terrible, which is just embarrassing.

So was having a bit of a think about how I'll do things over the next few months, and have decided to go back to the BB-body part split way of doing things for a few months, rather than thinking about strength for the moment.

Part of what made me decide on that was seeing a woman yesterday with what I consider to be the perfect body, and it reminded me of what my aims are with all weightlifting - I am not overly concerned about strength and have no desire to compete, it's purely about looking a certain way, and so this is what I'm going to work towards for the moment.

Just in case it was one of our Chch female members I saw - it was a woman at the QEII park gymnastics club after school with her kids til 4.30pm. Absolutely stunning arms, with just the right amount of bodyfat to look like she totally lifts big weights, but not all extreme which I don't like - not all fat like a bb-er pre cutting, and not all veiny post-cut, just right, and just what I'd like to aim for.

So that's my aim for this year - to have nice arms like the random chick who was at my niece's gym club! (No idea about her legs - she had trousers on).

Back and biceps yesterday, extra legs and a brief foray into abs today.

Have now worked out a programme for the next 6-8 (or so) weeks, involving:

Day 1 - chest/tri/shoulders

Day 2 - legs

Day 3 - no weights, probably cardio

Day 4 - back/biceps/abs

Day 5 - extra legs, extra triceps

Day 6 - cardio

Day 7 - cardio

I'm probably missing something, but that's what days 5-6 will be for, once I remember what is is that I've forgotten :pfft:

Going to do lots of cardio for the next month or two - or at least lots of extra walking. Scales are not my friend right now, jumped on this morning and have gained back everything I lost before going on holiday last year. This was expected, but hate not being able to fit properly into my summer clothes. So should manage to fit back into them right about when the crap weather hits  Have actually gained since getting back which is more depressing (though the lovely icy cold frozen pina colada I'm currently sipping on isn't really helping  )

Diet will also get back into check after this weekend. Summer is terrible for social events full of lovely food and drinks, but after this weekend I can ease off for a few weeks and perhaps drop a couple of kilos of wine weight

With you on the drinkies.... but sadly, all I've got to look forward to is.... chicken

You have my sympathy - but you know it'll be worth it, so it's great to see your determination and consistency with the eating and the cardio

the plan looks good - see you're determine to hit that 2:1 triceps:biceps attack you were talking about.

Yeah, my triceps area is my biggest problem area, and my legs and butt are also problem areas to a lesser extent, so I'm going to give those areas double doses of weights for a while, as I had really good results with triceps last year, so want to build on that this year.

You will soon get back into it and your body will respond to the work rate again after the holiday...keep it up chillicat.

As for the lady at your neices gym club it's great to have inspiration like that, so find some pics and stick them on things around the house eg the pina colada mix bottle :pfft: to keep you on track

Yes, that's a very good idea

But yeah agree with Ness re inspiration. I always wanted this chick's abs, it's a work in progress  :pfft:

Yep, gotta have something to aim for. Her shoulders look nice too.

Today I did legs. Started with a nice 2 hour walk to work this morning, then at lunchtime a trip to the gym for some weights. Bloody hell it was HOT in the gym today, like a sauna, not nice.

So did squats, lunges, SLDLS and calf raises. Still low weights, but made myself do 4 sets rather than 3 this time - the last 3 weeks my first set has been my 20kg bar set (sometimes that weight has been my whole workout  ) - in the past I always warmed up with the oly bar, but never counted it. But since I'm working back to strength I've only been able to manage 3 sets including the warmup set, so today I finally managed warmup + 3 heavier sets. So I'm improving at last!

Nice work - there was nothing wrong with those squats, some good weights going on there. Plus, you at least (unlike some of us :shifty: ) were keeping your breaks short - that's where the results come from

Keep it up

I hear ya on the 'summer indulging' chick. So many social events and traveling around, it's natural to have an effect on weight. I've gained a couple also but it was to be expected. I'm sure we'll all go hard during winter...seems to be our prime training time. I'm not going to worry so much about diet (70% clean atm) until I get back from Japan where it will be carbs galore!

Possibly a bit much chatting between sets though :pfft: (but it was HOT -needed longer breaks!)

OMG the heat at my gym is unbearable - I never knew I could sweat from somewhere on my shin but I can. Its gross....today I had my first 'its too hot to go' day as I'd sat at work all day baking.....I coudln't bear it!!! Might have to switch to mornings (that'll be a laugh!)......why no air-con in the gym!!!!!????

  • 2 weeks later...

Bit of a slack week this week. Was meant to do lots on Saturday, but freebie tickets to the rugby on Friday night meant lots of freebie wine in the corporate box...and a wee bit of a hangover on Saturday - enough of a hangover to decide that benching was probably not such a good idea.

Round the Bays on Sunday (walking - I don't run. Ever) so lots of walking and no lifting.

Caught up on Monday, but I don't have as much time in a lunch break as I do on a weekend, so just the basic chest and tris, Tues did a fairly decent leg workout, so happy with that. Today didn't go to gym, went for a walk to stock up my work emergency kit instead.

Tomorrow is probably my last day at the gym for the next few days, as my sister is completely over Chch so is coming up tomorrow evening with my niece to stay for a while til she can face going back. So they will be my priority over the next few days, and if I manage to get a workout in, then good, but if not, no problem. Some things are more important.
