Yesterday - cardio session in the morning, legs in afternoon, followed by some more cardio. Went fairly easy-ish on legs, still having slight knee niggles, so left out squats and lunges for the week (second week in a row, so must do them next week).

Seated leg press (and calves) 124kg 4x10. Oddly enough I found this quite difficult, which is weird as only a month ago I did 120kg 10x10 at the end of a leg session. Funny how things go.

Deads 35kg 3x12

Seated calf raises 65kg 8/6/7/6 PB

Leg extensions 63kg 4x8

Sumo squats 33kg 4x8 PB

Today, woke up and checked self out in mirror (as one does), and I swear I saw some ab action going on. Barely perceptible, but there was definitely something trying really really hard to mimic a 6 pack. Of course it disappeared the minute I ate brekkie

Did a short back/bi/shoulder workout today. Need to do lots of cardio tomorrow to make up for all the work dos that are happening, including tomorrow's end of year lunch - bit early for Xmas, but everyone is starting to bugger off on leave after this week, so this week it is.

Pull ups 3

Chinups 3

Lat pulldowns 40kg 10/8/8/8 PB But need to work on form

Bend over rows 32.5kg 4x10

EZbar bicep curls 10kg 10/10/8/8

Hammer curls 7kg 10/8/8/8 PB

Concentration curls 7kg 8/8/7

DB shoulder press 1kg 12/10/10/10 PB

Lat raises 6kg 3x8

No weights today, just lots of cardio to make up for work end of year lunch. Did 30 mins of cycling and 20 of rowing this morning, then this evening I tried out my new CityFitness membership card out at J'ville, and it worked, so that was pretty cool. Just did some more cardio - 15 mins cross trainer, 20 mins bike and 15 mins hill walk on the treadmill.

Lunch involved some bread, some lamb racks (bit tough and disappointing), a potatoey thing, and a wee bit of some dessert. Oh and a half a glass of pinot noir. And bowling - so at least there was a bit of exercise!

Worked from home today, due to a ton of work and an early afternoon deadline, and the need for peace and no distractions. In the past I only worked from home on days when I could feel a cold coming on and wanted to stay away from colleagues but still wanted to work (and was just sick enough to not feel like going to gym), or when I was OK about missing a gym day.

But now that I have access to a gym near my home, I don't need to be all angsty and stressed about the occasional need to work from home - I can embrace it, as it's bloody easy to fit in a gym session now!

So I'd already done chest and tris on Monday, so decided to give them a double blast today, as well as some abs and cardio. Started off joining the boys in the man cave:

DB chest press 14kg 3x12

Flyes 9kg 3x12

Skullcrushers 12kg 3x12

Tricep bench press 20kg 4x10 PB - currently getting better at this one every time I do it!

Dips at dip station - 3x8

Oh yeah, also did some pull ups 2x2 and chin ups 5 then 3

I am still very angry at the way BW went about the selling to CF, but all that aside, I'm really enjoying the flexibility of being able to use both gyms. Like I told someone at work - now I can be even more obsessive!

Worked from home today,

Lucky you... not an option for me, unfortunately. So instead I spent most of the day playing "resist the urge to unleash hell on the twerp across the table"....

Hooray for PBs - that's the sort of attitude that gets results

I was speaking to someone I know, who's reasonably well placed on things and, yes, there's a lot of anger at how the change was managed, both in the terms of staff and clientele, but there is some good out of this - apparently the US backers of City Fitness are planning investments, in terms of equipment and the like...the boxing ring will go, there may be (so the word goes) a genuine lifting area, where Olympic lifting would be encouraged... maybe even chalk-tolerant! So, it's not totally doom n gloom.

Chalk eh? I'm almost a bit embarassed to admit that I've ordered some free gloves with my latest BB.com stock up that's currently sitting somewhere in Tennessee with FedEx - sadly I have severe eczema on my hands (nowhere else oddly enough, just the palms), and chalk is no good for me, too drying on hands that are already cracked and painful. Thought I'd try gloves now that it's getting warmer and the hands are getting sweatier.

Strangely the eczema has come back with a vengeance this year, after several years of it not causing me problems. Not sure if it's diet related but if so will just have to live with it. In the past one of the things that triggered it was drinking, but that's definitely not the problem this year!

Who says you can't spot reduce? The other day I got out the tape measure just out of interest. I'd jotted down some measurements just over 2 years ago when it was 2 months before my wedding and I was feeling fat and flabby. At the time I was 63kg, and then went on to add another 3kg to that after getting married (the technical term for that is that I let myself go :pfft: )

So I check that every now and then, and the numbers stayed more or less the same, then the other day when I checked it after 9 months of working towards proper weightlifting I thought the results were interesting. I don't have the exact numbers here, but these are the differences:

legs, hips, waist - all 4cm smaller

chest - 2cm smaller

arms - 1cm bigger

I thought that was pretty interesting that from a proportion point of view I've got much smaller down below, less small up top, and bigger in the arm area. Given that I've always thought my thighs are proportionately ginormous, I'm pretty pleased with this!

Thanks guys.

My eating has been a bit bad in the last week  Bloody December Oh well, I'm not overly bothered, as I'm pleased with where I am, and it's not like I'm dieting for competition or anything. But I am going to work hard on doing lots of cardio in this last couple of weeks before christmas, and also do some extra arm work.

Too right chick. This will be a tough period for everyone. You look great as it is and we all have to let loose for a small period.

Hey Chillicat, nice work re the change in measurements, well done :)

Ummm, just out of interest, have you tried proper chalk? Because while I found baby powder totally evil, chalk wasn't. I had a problem with really dry hands at one point, baby powder kept aggravating a deep split so I was reluctant to try chalk  I tried a glove on the split hand just to protect the split while healing (though admittedly not proper 'weight-lifting' gloves, which might've made all the difference :pfft: ). But the glove aggravated the split too due to friction/slippage. So I bought some proper chalk and found it didn't aggravate my hands anything like the baby powder or glove.

No I admit that I haven't tried proper chalk - I'm fairly reluctant to put anything on my hands though, other than the cream I have from the doc or stuff like aquaeus (sp) cream or other plain stuff like that just to keep it moist. My hands are generally extremely dry, flaky (nice!) and currently full of split bits, so pretty painful.

I did try my brand new gloves today, and they worked ok - hands didn't hurt so much with the bar not causing direct friction. Only thing I don't like is the giant 'bodybuilding.com' bit on the top of the gloves - felt like a total tryhard :pfft: Fortunately it's a sewn on bit, so I'll take them home tonight and unpick that bit.

It was definitely easier today. At the moment my hands are so sore that I can't open them fully without pain and skin breakage or flaking. A barrier against the skin in the form of gloves is a definite help for hands in that condition. I can see how it might be different for people who don't have skin diseases, but it worked for me today, so I'll see how it goes long term. It's more about protecting my hands than anything else, and just doing the best I can until it clears up (wish it would hurry up!)

Been a bit slack with updating the journal lately. It does get a bit tedious just copying out numbers from my other journal!

So Sunday I went to J'ville and did shoulders and some cardio

Then yesterday I did legs at lunchtime - squats and lunges for the first time in a few weeks and a few other bits and pieces, then a 50 min cardio session at J'ville on the way home. My legs have got steadily more sore today as the day has gone by  Every time I got up to go to the loo or get a drink I was hobbling more than the last time!

Today I had a bit of a sore back, possibly from all the rowing I did yesterday, so I decided to do bi and tris instead of back and bis. No cardio because all the cardio seems to involve legs, and mine aren't working today

Bugger it, I appear to be sick. I've only just managed to get out of bed.

Ooh, anyone just feel the earthquake? Better go shower and get dressed - I don't want to just be in my dressing gown when the big one hits!

Guess today is a compulsory rest day, dammit.
