Just done a bit of cardio on Wed and Thurs and today have done a pump class. Think I wore myself out a bit with my 2 long sessions earlier in the week. Don't know how those 1.5 hr a day people do it!

Diet is still on track, and planning on lamb shanks tonight at Boulcott St Bistro for my wedding anniversary. Might even have a wine or two, and perhaps a creme brulee if there's any room. But there generally isn't room for dessert, so probably not.

Then it'll be 5 weeks of solidly eating properly til Xmas. Trying to find the perfect Xmas dress/top/outfit of some type that looks awesome and shows off my muscles to great effect. No luck so far - but I've got 5 weeks!

Happy Anniversary and smiley-greet001.gif CC. How many years? I think having a nice meal with creme brulee is compulsory for an occasion like that  And KUTGW CC your journal is awesome...lookin good

Thanks! Only 2 years of marriage for me. But we've been together for 6 years, and prior to that I'd only ever managed to stay with anyone for a year (and that was an effort) - so it's quite an achievement

I've been avoiding my journal all weekend, but I might as well come clean - I pigged out on Friday night, and had 3 courses and WAY too much wine. At the restaurant I started off well with a lovely smoked salmon starter, then the delicious lamb shank main that I'd been looking forward to all week. I was pretty full after that and know full well I should have just stopped. But the 3 glasses of wine I'd drunk loosened my will and I had dessert too - profiteroles with bailey's icecream and chocolate sauce.

Then we went home and had some champagne with this honey liquer stuff. I felt like crap on Saturday morning and won't drink again til Christmas!

Yesterday's workout

DB chest press 15kg 4x10 PB

Flyes 9kg 2x15

Skullcrushers 12.5kg 3x12

Tricep bench press 20kg 4x8 PB

Seated dips 70kg 4x10

Then 20 mins on the bike. Going to try and do lots of cardio the next 5 weeks in my final push to look good in my 'after' photo one year after my jenny craig style moment.

Did you do Jenny Craig? How was that? My Mum wants to do it but I'm a bit iffy about it.

Oh no I didn't do Jenny Craig. I was just using it as a phrase for meaning the time I really noticed that something needed to be done. I don't believe in those kind of diets - I don't think having food delivered to you really teaches you all that much about exactly what you're eating - I prefer to cook my own food and know what is going in.

Heya CC, I see there's a spin instructor, Carolyn G.... have you done one of her classes?

Not yet - but I see that Ashley's not on next week, so I thought I might give Carolyn's class a try next Friday lunchtime.

Hey, have you spotted Juliet around the gym? I saw her on the Terrace the other week with a man and a little bubba and thought she might be here visiting, but I was looking at the spin instructors on the gym website and Juliet is there (with her married name) and it says she's back, now a mum, teaching pilates and spin. I saw the name Juliet on the timetable a few weeks ago but didn't really think anything of it. Could it be true??? OMG how great would it be if she was going to teach spin again!!

Spin was awesome today. I had AJ, Adrian and Carl all behind me, so felt very self concious and as a result worked bloody hard. On the plus side, it meant that Ashley was picking on them when she did her rounds and didn't even notice me - but I was working my butt off anyway!

Accidently carbed out in the afternoon though. :naughty:

If Juliet's back, that'd be great, she was a good instructor - not as good as Dom in Spin, but great at Pump. I thought that Carolyn might have been the Group Fitness Manager/ Club Manager, but that's Carolyn P.

I guess it's true - summer must be nearly here if all the male PT's are doing cardio to get shredded  Bet it made for a full class, tho... I'm told those latin boys are popular!

Back and biceps today

Pullups - 2

Chinups - 4

Bent over rows 32.5kg 4x10 PB

EZ bar bicep curls 10kg 4x10 PB

Cable rows 40kg 4x10 PB

One armed rows 15kg 4x8 PB

Hammer curls 7kg 4x8

Concentration curls 7kg 8/7/7/5 PB - still trying for the 4x8 but just can't manage it!

So that was a really great workout, and I finished off with 30 mins on the bike. Need to do more cardio. Hate cardio!

Had a colleague down from Auckland today who has been supportive of my efforts. First thing he asked when he saw me was to see my shoulders, as it's been several months since he last saw me. Lucky for me I was wearing a sleeveless top, so I did a bit of a bicep flex for him, gave him a front and back view and he was very appreciative (I should note at this point that he is gay, so nothing for hubby to be worried about  ). Nice to have someone being positive for a change!

I had another positive comment this week. I was chatting with a friend about my eating habits the other week, and when I saw him earlier this week he said that he's now changing his eating habits in light of my success this year. He's a large guy and didn't really know what to do about changing that, so he's starting with eating smaller and more often, and making some better choices with what he eats. So that was nice that I have inspired someone, and it would be great if it makes a difference for him.

It was kinda sweet when I saw him because he was proud of himself for munching on vege crisps instead of something else. I didn't have the heart to set him straight that they were chips just as bad as any other - nothing worse than diet nazis derailing your attempts when you've barely started. I just encouraged him and said that I agree that one change at a time is the way to go. So many people seem to fail because they make a ton of grand changes in one hit and find it unsustainable. I've watched my mother struggle for about 25 years like this and get nowhere just because she takes an all or nothing approach. I prefer the way of getting used to one change then making another. Before you know it you have a weirdy BB-style eating plan and it feels completely normal!

Niggly knees today, so didn't go hard on the legs.

Seated leg press (including calves) 124kg 1x10; 115kg 1x10; 106kg 2x10 (more of a personal worst than a personal best today!)

Deadlifts 35kg 3x12

Sump squats 32kg 4x8 PB

Decided to leave weights at that and do 30 mins of cardio - cycling.

Think I'll ease off on the weights slightly in the next 4 weeks so that I can fit a bit more cardio in. Drop one cardio exercise per muscle groups each day and do some cardio at the end of each workout where possible, so that I'm doing cardio 4-5 days a week.

I keep a note of the cardio I do that is over 10 mins (so that includes walking to and from the train station, but not to and from work to the gym or warm ups), and I've been averaging around 4.5 hours per week the last couple of months. I want to add at least an hour per week to that, but more if possible, so that would be a minimum of 2-3 20-30 min cardio sessions extra per week.

If the weather gets better, there'll be more walking, but really it'll be better for me to get a real sweat going by getting on a bike or cross trainer or something.

4 weeks til xmas photo - before and after comparison - time to pull finger and shift that fat!!

Yeah I must say I hated cardio before. But now that I'm averaging about 4/5 sessions per week I LOVE it! Miss the weight sessions of course but its good to take a break and concentrate on the bodyfat.

With how lean you're looking already, that extra cardio will have you looking AMAZING by xmas.

The only problem is that the extra cardio is making me so hungry that I'm eating whatever is to hand. I've had a bit of an 'ah f*ck it' last few days with my eating.

I think I'll go back to medium carbs rather than low carbs, as eating wrong stuff is just going to be counterproductive - and I'm not doing all that bloody cardio for nothing!

Shoulders yesterday:

DB press 10kg 10/10/10/8

DB upright rows 10kg 3x10

Lat raises 6kg 3x8 PB

Front raises 5kg 3x8 PB

Front plank 2 mins!!!!!!! PB Best was 90 secs before, so a giant leap.

Side planks 80 secs each PB

Also did 30 mins of cardio.

My cardio is up heaps this week. When I first started noting my cardio I did 6-7 hours worth the first 3 weeks. That was helped by great weather and not needing to get the bus to work - but since then for about 2 months I've been doing around 4-5 hours per week. So in my push to lose body fat I want to improve on that. The last couple of weeks I managed slightly over 5 hours, and this week I've already done 6.5 hours with my extra sessions on the bike in the gym - and I still have today and tomorrow (though given the horrible weather, I can't see that going up much more!).

Next week will be a challenge. I've got a team dinner for work on Monday, a pub quiz night on Tuesday, work end of year lunch on Thursday, and a friend over on Saturday night. I'm planning on making wise use of the time between finishing work and the dinners/quizes by going to the gym rather than just hanging around at work, and doing lots of cardio to make up for all the buses I'll probably be getting due to later nights (I always bus directly home at night rather than walking - not that J'ville is very dangerous, but when it gets to 9pm I don't want to be taking an hour to get home - I just wanna get there!).

Drinking will be minimal. I'm not bothered about drinking at the midweek things, but I'll probably have a wine when my friend comes over. But given how horrible I felt after my wedding anniversary wines last weekend, I won't be having more than one!

Was going to do 2 sessions today, but with the weather being so crap I couldn't face getting drenched twice, so just did the one big session after work as a way to earn my work team dinner at Chow (lamb shank mussaman curry - recommended!)

DB chest press 15kg 12/10/8/8

Flyes 9kg 3x12

Skullcrushers 12.5kg 3x12

Tricep bench press 20kg 10/10/8/8 PB

Tricep kickbacks 7kg 4x10 PB

Couple of half hearted tricep pulldowns, but tris were fried by then so gave up and did some abs. Just a couple of planks, all 90 sec - the side ones = PB

Then hit the bike for 30 mins and finished off with 10 mins of rowing.

Back again tomorrow morning for some cardio, before a full day of butt sitting at my annual team hui. Will go to gym again after work, as will be desperate for a workout after being cooped up all day, and will have a couple of hours to kill before pub quiz me and some colleagues are going to.
