It was a surprisingly big class for a Friday night - a good 12-15 people. That surprised me, especially as the lunch class was so packed. Feeling great now!

Quesadillas were a bit of a disappointment - got home and fired up the griller, put a quesadilla in, and within a couple of minutes there was a bang sound and all the power went out. There was a fire across the way, and it seems that somehow cut the power for about an hour. Since I'd just got back from the gym I was utterly starving, so we shared the first half cooked one, then after that I just could wait and ate my other half untoasted! When you gotta eat, you gotta eat! After another half an hour or so hubby started eating his like that too, but just after he started, the power came back on, so he got to have the rest of his properly cooked. Lucky him!

Bit busy at work so not going to post my workout right now. Doing the double whammy today, legs at lunchtime, and spin after work. Followed by quesadillas for dinner (take 2 - hoping for no power cut this time!).

Tried NO Shotgun for the first time today - got a lot of tingles. I guess that will stop after using it a couple of times? Odd feeling, like someone pushing a hairbrush with fine needles gently into my skin!

Oh, and tried Dymatize Pina Colada shake today, which I can highly recommend. Bit powdery at the end - maybe I didn't shake it enough - but other than that, tasted divine.

Yep, there's a name for that tingling, I want to say it's due to the Beta-Alinine but that might not be the right ingredient. I'm not sure it ever goes away completely but you do get used to it.

Can't say that I've tried Pina Colada, but their banana-nut flavour is good... but don't, if you respect your taste buds, try the green apple flavour - ick!

and good luck with the quesadillas

It was certainly a very strange feeling, but not one I can't live with

No, that doesn't even sound like something I'd want to try!

Success! No power cut, so quesadilla night take 2 was a good one! That's my medium carb meal for the week, so all low carb and higher fat til Saturday...Halloween...I've got friends with kiddies coming over and I'm planning on making lots of really really bad food for them...meringue ghosts, truffle spiders, assorted decorated cupcakes + the naughty stuff I've found at K-mart! I'm sure I'll indulge myself too, but it's my favourite day of the year, so gotta enjoy it!

I'm really starting to see some results, which is making me very happy. Did pump on Friday night, and could see some good bicep action going on when doing bicep curls. Normally when I do biceps I'm facing the mirror, but in a pump class I'm side on, so I was busy checking myself out (as one does) and definitely notice an improvement since the last time I did a pump class (probably several months ago). There's still a lot of work to go in getting rid of the flabbage, but I'm confident that once the flab is gone there will actually be something to see underneath, not just scrawniness!

And I swear I caught a glimpse of some abs last night. Checked again this morning (on an empty stomach :pfft: ) and there's almost a bit of ab wanting to show itself. At the moment ab-wise all I've got is those two lines down the side, but no pack of any number is visible. I may have a 2 pack about to emerge - muchos excited!

Weight loss is coming along. At the beginning of last week when I started I clocked in at a mighty 61.2kg, after a weekend of pre-diet indulgence. My normal average weight for the last couple of months had been around 60-61kg, and most often around the 60.5kg mark. 61.2kg was high for me, so I am not surprised by a large drop in the first week. Actually, weight was all over the place in the last week, but today I clocked in at 59.5kg. I expect much smaller losses from now on though, as initially it's always a bit more than you'd expect on a regular basis.

I'll do some half-cut pics at the halfway point, 5 weeks in, so 4 weeks from now.

Oh, and I've remembered about avocados, yummy way to keep my fats up, and goes very well with tuna!

Surely something of a contradiction there

Don't sweat the weight thing, remember that you'll be building lean muscle mass as well as shedding flabbage..... what's the (somewhat dodgy, but useful for trends) Tanita telling you?

The Tanita measurements are all over the show! Pretty much not telling me anything! But not bothered about it - my eyes will tell me what I need to tell. And if I actually put my glasses on, I'll possibly see more what I want to see!

I've been a bit crap this week with keeping this up to date, so here are my efforts from the last 2 days:

Wednesday

Pullup - er, about a half  Odd thing is that I can do one on the pull up bar when I go to CityFitness in J'ville, but when I try to do one at Bodyworks - nothing. Don't get that really, but that's the way it goes

Chinups - 5/3/2

Cable rows 35kg 12/10, 40kg 8/8

Bent over rows 30kg 4x8

One armed rows 12kg 4x8

EZ bar bicep curls 10kg 2x8 (PB!!) 7.5kg 2x8

Hammer curls 7kg 8/6/5/5

Concentation curls 5kg 10x10 (well a few 9s in there!)

Thursday

DB shoulder press 9kg 1x12 10kg 3x8 (PB!!)

DB upright rows 9kg 2x12, 10kg 2x8 (PB)

Lat raises 5kg 1x12, 5.7kg 1x10, 6kg 8/5

Front raises 4.5kg 3x8

Eating is going well. Yesterday's food:

1. Oats (40g), Protein Powder, Milk 25ml

2. Sludge

3. PS

NO Shotgun pre workout

4. Medium tin pink salmon and PS

5. PS

6. Hamburgers without buns but with lots of salad

7. Sludge

This has been fairly standard. Earlier in the week I had tuna instead of salmon, and had it twice a day instead of one of the protein shakes. I'm standardly getting 1600-1700 calories a day (evening meals are largely guesstimates unless they are easily workoutable, like hamburger patties). Mostly this is fine and I'm not going to bed feeling like I want to gnaw my arm off with hunger (though I did cheat one night and had an apple as I was still hungry - I don't think that will kill me though!).

Today I think I'll do another pump class. Enjoyed it last week, and today's lunchtime instructor is Riz who works you HARD, so since I've done all my muscle groups for the week + one spin class, I'll treat myself to a pump class!

Possible cheats on the weekend - friends over for Halloween dinner. I'm making cupcakes (blood flavoured vampire bites!), truffle spiders, meringue ghosts...etc. I may indulge. But then November will be cheat free, so all good.

Thought I'd better do an extra gym session this week to make up for a bit of Halloween naughty eating, so today did chest and triceps. Will probably slot an extra spin class in as my penance for eating one or two halloween cupcakes, and perhaps a truffle spider or two...

Today's workout:

Pull ups: 2 (I know! A few days ago at B'works, I couldn't even do one, then today at J'ville CityFitness I do 2 no problem. What is it about the J'ville pull up bar??)

Chin ups: 5/5

Press ups: 25

DB Chest press: 14kg 12/12/10

Flyes: 9kg 3x12

Skullcrushers 12kg 3x12

Tricep bb press 17kg 3x12

Kickbacks 7kg 4x8

Overhead extensions 10kg 4x8

Then about 15 mins of ab work, including a 90 second plank and a couple of 60 second side planks.

Today:

Smith squats 55kg 4x8

Smith lunges 32.5kg 4x8

Seated calf raises 60kg 4x8 PB

Deadlifts 32.5kg 2x8; 35kg 2x8 PB

Sumo squats 30kg 4x8 PB

Leg extensions 63kg 3x8

Today's food:

1. Oats, milk, PP

2. Sludge

3. Sludge

4. Tuna and avocado

5. PS

6. Kenyan chicken curry and spinach (no rice!)

7. Sludge

Well done!!!

I read your post about your Quesadillas nite and I had no idea what they were LOL so I had a wee look on the net and YUMMY are Quesadillas low in carbs?

Sadly not - each tortilla has about 21.4g carbs, and you need two for a whole quesadilla, so it's a pretty carby meal. But I schedule quesadilla night to coincide with spin night, which is an after work session after I've done a lunchtime weights session - I figure that I've earned it after 2 gym sessions, one being full on cardio!

I'm also doing carb cycling, having a higher carb day every few days, so it's all good. Oh, and I don't obsess too much about the whole 'no carbs after x o'clock' school of thought. I'm more about calories in, calories out, little and often

PBs   nice one Chillichic
i was also thinking this :lol::lol:

hot pics, pb's, your trucking along chick!!!!

Awesome work

Thanks all! I like the whole putting PBs into the journal - even though I see them in my hard copy gym notebook, there's a certain satisfaction of seeing it typed up in my online journal!

 No worries - I'm resisting the cupcakes no problem. Was going to take them to work but hubby wanted to keep them all to himself...so I have to resist for several days til they're all gone! But my sludge supply is enough to keep me happy and satisfied, so all good!

Well, I'm definitely not an expert on this, as it's something I've only recently heard about. But my understanding is (correct me if I'm wrong anyone!) that when you want to lose fat, the best way of going about things is to have a high protein and high fat diet (good fats!) and low carbs. But your body does need carbs and so cycling allows you to still have them, but on designated days.

So I read that 'low carb' is considered to be the gram equivalent of half your body weight in pounds. So if I weigh 60kg, my body weight in pounds is 132, so a low carb day would be around half that, medium carb day would be body weight in pounds = in grams, and high carb is like double that.

The idea is that you go low carb for several days then do a high carb day or medium or whatever. That way you're not totally depriving yourself of the carbs that your body wants. Though you preferably shouldn't be eating giant cupcakes on high carb day!!

I decided to do it because I'm currently trying to lose some fat for the summer to bring out these giant muscles I've been working on :pfft: I like to eat dinner with my husband at night, prefer not to do separate meals all the time, so I make compromises with my meals, like just eating just the meat and veges but not adding starchy bits. But every now and then he likes to make pizza or we like to have quesadillas - and they're carby. So if I cycle, then I'm getting carbs, but in a scheduled way and still within the limits of the lower calorie diet. No deprivation = a happy Chillicat!

I've only been on my current eating plan for a couple of weeks, but it seems to be doing what I want it to do...but ask me again in a few weeks when I hit the halfway point!
