Hello from new Wellington girl

Hi everyone! :D

I stumbled across this website last week while home sick and searching for excercise information, and I've been reading through lots of the threads on your journals and nutrition info (especially the girls) and finding them really useful.

I'm new to bodybuilding - that feels strange typing that, as I feel like a bit of a fraud since I'm nowhere near calling myself any kind of bodybuilder. But you all seem really nice and there seems to be quite a few other girls around in a similar situation - really keen on weights and working towards a great muscular body, and wanting to be around like-minded people to get great advice and support.

I've been going to the gym for about 8 1/2years now, starting at the uni gym doing group excercise classes - mainly because they were free at the time! Became a Pump addict, but after all this time I've finally accepted that Pump classes are fun, but they really aren't going to give me the body I want.

I was always keen on doing proper weight training, but felt really intimidated by that part of the gym, and not knowing my way around the machines, or where to start with freeweights. I got up the guts to contact a couple of PTs at my gym, but neither of them got back in touch with me, so I chickened out and stuck with the pump, til one day an instructor didn't show up, and as an apology the gym gave us a free PT session - and this time the PT did actually follow up and contact me and I had my session. That got me started on using freeweights and machines, and since then (February) I've ditched the group excercise and started spending lots of time doing my own thing with weights.

I'm really pleased with my progress so far, but have a long way to go (especially felt that when I was working out triceps the other day and was next to a girl with the most awesome arms with what appeared to be zero body fat - I felt like Mrs Blobby!). I'm learning more about proper nutrition and excercise every day it seems, which is brilliant, and now I've found this forum I'm sure I'll learn heaps more and get closer to my goals.

Welcome - there are indeed a lot of folks on here of a like mind, and I'm sure you'll get some good advice.

Gyms can be like that - snobby, intimidating - but it's good that your gym at least did the right thing. Now you're on your way, so well done!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I go to Bodyworks, which I like a lot. My work is shifting tomorrow to the Terrace and I'll be right next to Les Mills - but I've trialled LM a couple of times before and wasn't so keen, so I don't think I'll be making a change and think I'll stick with Bodyworks, at least for now.

Yes, I think I'll be brave and keep a journal on here. I've been keeping a personal one since Feb when I started more full on with weights, and I was just looking through it yesterday and noticing how much it's changed in that time. I think it'll be good for me to get feedback from you guys on what I'm doing wrong (and hopefully some things I might be doing right), so I'll start that this week.

I think I'm going to like it in here!

I hear ya! Some days it feels like my self esteem entirely depends on who I'm standing beside. :P

Glad you found us, Chillicat.

Man your story sounds just like mine ...I laughed when you said about feeling like a fraud , I thought you were talking about me ...I too am new to bodybuilding , and I havent really said it out loud yet as I have a long way to go !!! But I am already starting to see wee results , which is nice as it makes you keep going ... the hardest part for me was Rolled oats ...hmmm still working on that one !

I have always frequented the gym , and have enjoyed it also pump classes ... almost addicted , but now I want to see better results and a awsome challenge , I have enjoyed reading through other peoples posts and have found it very inspiring to say the least !!

Wow, our stories do sound similar! I have only written bodybuilder - haven't said it out loud - that may take a wee bit longer yet

Hi and Welcome  Some of our best bodybuilders are PT's and instruct Pump classes, I like to do them all the time as great to mix it up a bit

I don't think I could ever give them up entirely, and I've made quite a few gym buddies from going to the classes, and I don't really see them now that I've stopped going so much.

As long as it doesn't interfere with my other training, I'll fit a class in when I can - often on a Friday to give my body a good all over blast before I rest on Saturday (and sometimes Sunday).

Its a state of mind..... :pfft: If you commit to it, make the changes to your life that are necessary, and just clear all the other b/s out of your life, then you will achieve it. welcome aboard!
