CBC is in the zone today. Lots action in the trenches.

John back on form with his bench - Wes fully in the zone on his first test day ....

My PB Deadlift set today ... 280kg came up strong. racked up 300kg to get a feel for it - wasn't my time but I'm glad I did as it came up close to the knee. Lost concentration and spent a bit too much time focusing at the start. Great thing is I know I can move it now. Pretty stoked.

So in training confirmed now: body weight 127kg on the dot

Bench 180kg (90% ish) = havent test it for over 6 weeks now .. locked and loaded

DL 280kg (95% ish)

Squat 200kg (with room to move)

Just need to pull it all together on the day and find the other 40kg to hit my goal.

recovery tomorrow then look to squat Monday.

:)

Team JACK3D looking dangerous.

Awesome work on the deads today Opti, 280 was a breeze, next time up try not to talk the bar into going up when you put 300 on and you will get it all the way up. Looked strong off the ground!!!

  • 2 weeks later...
you can get 40kg more from Squats to get 700 mate, 200kg would be a 2nd lift for you wouldn't it?

Want to see you doing 300 that's a bar bender for sure, respectful weights!! Will see what I am doing this weekend

yeah - we are kind of estimating 220 - 240 ish. Couldnt properly test after attempting 300kg DL a week or so ago. Hamstrings were short for a week after.

I'll get 700

Fuel to fire bro :D .... "I have something to say .... it's better to burn out, than to fade away ...... THERE CAN BE ONLY ONE!"

RESULT: Weigh in 127.1kg

Squat 240kg pb

Lift one @180kg - is a psycological one I regularly do in training to hit the bottom of my ROM.

Lift two @ 220kg - was comfortable but came down a little forward so had to work extra hard at the bottom to shift myself backward at the bottom.

Lift three @ 240kg - sat back fine, upper body was working hard to support the weight and shuddered a bit on the way up but the legs held out.

Bench 170kg

Press one @ 170kg - very comfortable lift, came up easy - shoulders felt good.

Press two @ 190kg - took a gamble on how easy the 170 was and that I had been popping 180 over previous weeks in training but couldn't pop it through my sticking point. Came down a bit slow a little over conscious of the shoulder on this one which spent a bit of energy.

Press three @ 190kg - set up good, eccentric a bit quicker and popped it a bit better off the bottom ... just no gas left after missing the second.

Deadlift 260kg

Openned on 260kg - came up ok. Felt good but had to work harder than expected for it.

Lift two and 3 280kg - didn't have it in the tank to bring it all the way up.

....

TOTAL 670kg (Raw lifted)

Learnings:

I underestimated the fitness/stamina requirement of the competition. In training I have DL280kg, benched 180kg (Probably could have got 180 but was angling for 700 total). I think as a bodybuilder I thought "its only 9 lifts" but when you take in the warm ups, mental focus and atmosphere it can really not the gas out of you.

My game plan going in was to get by on a 200 squat as it wasn't my strongest discipline - so 200kg was a figure I had in mind. When the 220 came up this was a bonus - It would take the pressure of needing to go to 200 on bench and/or 300DL (the unicorn).

When the 240kg came up I was quietly confident of the 700 and after my first press being so easy I thought it was all done hill from here.

Amazing how a better result in one discipline can have such an impact on your end result .. well very logical actually but the bodybuilder in me wasn't paying attention.

other out takes will be: Deadlift:

Start working on a narrower grip for deadlifts - I had been pulling with a wider grip and so working harder to get to the top of the lift.

Also, need to ensure im standing right in close to the bar at the start of the lift so as not to drag it back as part of the movement.

Bench: Happy for now but need to peg back a bit to ensure I take the easy points first - 180kg would have been made otherwise as it had been in training.

Squat: Continue along the path - had been a little inconsistant in training up to the event which is why I worked a little harder through the movement to stablise it. But a big improvement on last time.

.....

Thanks to my wingman Traps, 50% of team Jack3d for the support / encouragement ... and entertaining stunt lifting. ... to John for putting up the challenge in the first place - a gallant attempt at 300 bro ... one of us has to get it soon lol. But you were 100% in the zone yesterday .. well-done. To the rest of the CBC lifters - you guys and gals are awesome/ every time you pulled a weight it was like we were all up there with you. Well-done all. Trainhard - kudos mate for taking out best male lifter  ... Nice to finally meet PnW :D ... There were quite a number of forum members which was great to put faces to names and real names :pfft:

Thanks also to Tonka/VP/Danomyte/Wookie/Matt R/ Nick H ... In the brief conversations we had throughout the day you guys have given some great pointers ... learned heaps ... very much appreciated.

Special thanks to Steak " the Shepard" :pfft: and Barbelle and the CBC support crew/family for putting together a great event (Wes/VP/Corey nice job on the platform boys).- was the first time I had ever done somethig like this and I loved every minute of it.

Until next week signing out :D

... oh and for the record ... bodybuilders do appear to be stronger than powerlifters aye BigJohn  \:D/

Awesome day Opti, was great teaming up with you for this event.

Not much more that I can say about your lifting, I do want to add a little something about your squatting. Leading up to the comp it was always a bit of a worry to see you in the squat rack. Seeing you fooling around with those light weights on your back and battling to get depth.

It made a light weight like me feel good about my little squat numbers. So thank you

THEN!!!! on the day you come up with a 240kg squat!!! Where the hell did you get that from?? You took that good feeling I had, threw it on the ground and then took a leak all over it. :banging:

Monster!!! That was a bloody awesome lift and well deserved after the effort you put in. :dancing:

As for the rest of the lifts, we live and learn. Next comp you will pace yourself better you will smash all your lifts.

Yep loved every minute - have been reflecting on strategy the last couple of days and will have to start testing on a regular basis to get the rythym of the lifts sorted. But ...... challenge accepted :D I may need to drop to 115 to keep it competitive though
