I have a week of snowboarding coming up in Queenstown (so, a good solid 5 days of riding). I was looking into a 5 day pass at the local Gym, which will prove to be a tad expensive considering I'll be paying a few hundred for mountain passes.

My bf reckons it's ok to take the week of weight training, as long as I get in a s*** load of riding.

What do you think? Perhaps I can fit in some exercises at home to keep me sane? (push ups etc). Although I don't want to hinder any pre-comp progress.

Damn I'm such a newbie

Looks like you've set some really great goals towards your November show. Make sure you post some pics from the show. It's always inspiring to see what can be done when you set your mind to something. :)

A one week off training has been shown in numerous studies not to affect strength or endurance in any negative way. As long your you keep you meals as close to what they were before, your body will thankyou for the well deserved time off.

One week off every 8-10 weeks is GOOD for your physical and mental growth. - Well done so far!

Cheers Nick - really appreciate the advice.

Hey Chillicat! I've been off the radar lately due to limited internet access - work have officially blocked it!

Training and nutrition are going really well - I'll get my latest stats next Monday. However, had three days of snowboarding which coincided with my low carbs days. Let's just say I was a tad psychotic and started to scare the little kiddies with my constant glaring. My energy levels were also really low and I didn't go as hard as I usually do.

Today was chest and shoulders and it was an awesome workout. Tried Superpump for the first time and loved it!

I'm doing low carb at the mo too but high fat (good fat) and I think the fat is holding me together. I thought Id go a bit woozy from lack of carbs but am suprised how good I feel and love no carb bloat! Or maybe I have the scary- lack- of- carb- psychotic-ness to come? Are you eating good fats too?

Oooh low carbs on a boarding day - yeah, not so good. I normally have a ton of carbs on boarding days as even though I suck at boarding, I still seem to just burn through the energy.

But scaring little kiddies is always fun though :lol:

I'm gonna try that Superpump stuff when I get back from holiday since everyone is raving so much about it.

Yep - have the old flaxseed oil and fats from fish and tuna. Sounds like you're adapting to low carb better than me! I do find however, that I can handle it pretty well during the week - its just when I'm up the mountain. So will chat to my trainer about that and see if I can increase my calories on those days.

how are you finding the cytolean VC?

It's going great thanks! Took a few days to settle into it (as with most preworkout sups I've had) but my raging appetite has finally decreased and I have more energy to burn :)

Cheers steak :)

Haha yeah - I don't think they'll be forgetting me any time soon. I was just plain scary!

VC Update

Right! It's been a while but I've just posted my middle set for the NZBB comp and thought I'd put an update on here and let peeps know how I'm going. Below is an updated pic - some minor changes body wise but any change is good change.

April weight: 65.5kg

June weight: 63.8kg

August weight (today): 61.2kg

I'm really happy with this progress (even if it is a tad slow). Most of my progress has been in the last three weeks when I decided to get really serious for a show, and when I hired a new online trainer (thanks Sheta  ).

In regards to competing, I've been chatting to my trainer and we've decided Nov 7 is just too soon (being a Snowboarder really doesn't help) so we're gonna aim for a comp next year. I'm still gonna go hard with the diet and training, as it seems to be working really well.

Have my Queenstown snowboarding trip coming up next week (perhaps I'll bump into Chillicat?).

Did my glutes and quads yesterday morning, then walked from city to Brooklyn up the hill so my ass is feeling nice and sore :) This time I basically pushed to fail and man, it has made a difference!

Finally head to Queenstown tomorrow (I've been waiting a long time for this!) and my trainer has kindly created an at home workout plan so I don't have to head to the gym (optional of course - hoping I go hard enough that I'll be too buggered for any extra workout). Nutrition will stay the same although I will definitely add in a couple cheat meals and a few wines (I'm human after all - and I haven't seen my best mate in a year).

Good times!

  • 2 weeks later...

Apologies for my absence! Not only has this site been blocked at work, Telecom accidentally disconnected my broadband and all their technicians are on strike.......man I'm getting mad withdrawals from the net (how sad am I?).

So I'm in Ohakune just waiting for the lifts to open (damn wind). Queenstown week was awesome. Managed to get in 4 days of riding with one full on powder day :) Although I'm really amped that I'm back into training - was starting to get a bit jittery.

I'm back to my 5-day split with four extra cardio sessions (except when snowboarding). My eating has been really clean, with one cheat lunch (chicken sandwich) and cheat dinner (iskender or noodle soup) per week. I wont lie, it was about 70% clean during my holiday and I did have a few wines.

Having a weigh in end of next week so will see if my holiday affected anything. Have signed up to the VUW Thai Kickboxing class to train every Tuesday and Thurs (beginner classes and I'm on the wait list). Can't wait to get into it. Need a new sport to replace my riding!

By the looks of things, I have a lot of reading to catch up on! Hope everyone is great and that training is going well :)

Glad to hear the snow's been treating you well... hang in there, you'll be pressing iron again in no time!

If you've access to Vic, next Saturday Radical Fitness is launching their latest cardio releases, including Fight-Do (Combat/ Muay-Thai based). Free - just don't know the time yet.
