Laura's Journal - To 60kgs

So my old journal withered and died. And somewhere along the way, I got fat, again.

I'm in week 2 of a weight loss competition with some friends that lasts for 10 weeks. So far I'm in the lead having lost 2.4kgs and 1% BF. (Yes I know too much but most of it was just water loss from trimming down on carbs I figure).

So have gone from my usual diet of chicken, oats, and CAKE to my improved diet of oats, quinoa, lf yogurt, pp, pbs and chicken/tuna. Oh and lots of veges.

I'm determined to do this the right way without starving myself. Oh and this has meant I have had to do the dreaded cardio for the first time in years (literally). So doing 2 x 5-6km runs at this stage.

This is my countdown to 60kgs. Comp doesn't end till I get there :)

Day 10.

The first week my hunger was controllable and I was very good the whole week. This week I have been STARVING. I feel hungry all the time, and as my job involves being at a pc the entire day the thought of eating is always on my mind. I was perhaps a little to restrictive the first week but this week I am aiming to not go the other direction and just add in a little here and there, while hopefully achieving my 1kg weight loss goal on Sunday.

M1: 1/4c oats and LF yogurt

M2: 1/4c nuts (almonds/cashews) and pear

M3: mountain bread wheat wrap (70cal) and chicken, veges

M4: Protein shake (syntha 6)

M5/pre run: apple, 1/4 nuts if hungry

M6: Chicken salad

AM workout: Chest/Back.

Incline Bench - 2x10x25kg, 1x10x27.5kg, 1x5x27.5kg

Lat pulldown - 2x10x33kg, 2x10x38kg

Chest flys - 4x10x9kg dbs

Bent over rows one arm db - 10x16kgs

Pretty short workout but I slept in a bit.... oops.

So there is something good to being a guy - stereotypes tend to suggest that cooking cake is so "not a guy thing" that there's seldom any cake in the house for me to be tempted by

Good to see you back, Laurasaur -you aren't the only one trying to dig themselves out of a hole, so some of us will keep you company on the road back to lean!

I had never heard of Quinoa before....or so I thought....then I remembered from my home ec days at school...Quinoa (pronounced keen-wa) is an ancient grain that came originally from the Andes Mountains of South America and, along with potatoes and corn, was one of the staples of the Inca civilisation. It was known as the “mother grain” because of its high protein content: 16.2 per cent compared with 14 per cent for wheat and 7.5 per cent for rice.

Because it’s so nutritious, quinoa is ideal for vegetarians and an absolute blessing for those with wheat and gluten intolerances. Many people are unaware of its existence and if you haven’t tried it before, you’re in for a treat. The texture is somewhat chewy, a bit like barley, and it has a lovely nutty flavour. An added bonus is that it feels light in your stomach and is easy to digest.

Good health-food stores should stock it, although sometimes it is hard to track down. Experiment with quinoa – you and your family and friends won’t be disappointed.

Quinoa has been a bit of an adjustement. Trying to replace 1/2 of my breakfasts at this stage with it until I get used to it... but I don't mind it. I haven't seen the red quinoa around, I had to search long enough to find the boring coloured stuff!!!

Day 11.

Did I mention I'm only weighing myself once a week? It's driving me crazy haha. Because I have been eating too much this week (just good food like nuts etc) I would love to check but I only weigh on sundays ha ha so it will be very interesting..

Today...

M1: 1/4 oats, 3 chopped walnuts and 1 tbsp low fat yogurt

M2: apple + 1/4 cup nuts (brazil + walnuts)

M3: worlds most awesome protein pancakes (just cc and pp)

M4: brownie!! yes I said it. I made also the worlds most awesome brownies + ate some scraps

M5: plain chicken 70g + plain salad.

Anyway because my plan is all long term moderation etc and all I already knew that I was going to let myself have some brownies today. So I had a little bit and it was pretty good.... then I decided I needed to go for a run.

Dude I had so much energy, I was like oh yeah all good brownies are awesome for running, then 10 mins later I thought I was gonna puke. Was disgusting. So even though I didn't punish myself for eating them my body punished me lol.

Hi Laura, A great way to control hunger and make you feel satieated is to add FIBRE.

Fibres great for dieting as it BLOCKS 7 cals per gram, meaning that your body has to work hard to digest it and burns up 7 cals doing so for each gram ingested.

RDI 30+ grams per day = 210 extra cals just to burn it up.

I would add more low carb veges(Broccoli, cauliflower etc) at lunch and dinner, Personally I just use frozen for convienance.

Try 1-2 cups per meal, the cals are neglible and it takes along time to eat so your body thinks you are fuller and you are less likely to over eat bad foods as most overconsumption is caused by eating rapidly. It takes around 20 mins to feel full, most fast eaters are finished in 5-10mins and therefore dont realize thay have over eaten untill well after their meal when it is too late.

To make these veges taste better try adding spices as required.

Good Luck.

Week 2 summary -

Was pretty happy with my progress all week, somehow managed to get in 3 runs, one on saturday morning after a hangover so all good...

Then the weekend came and oh dear. 2 guys who can eat whatever and still stay ripped so had lots of brownies/cake/indian/italian lol. Well they did but I still had a bit too much and I knew it...

Anyway weigh in was up +900g so I got owned and deservedly so. Ah well back into it and no excuses this weekend. I would like to be down 1.5 by Sunday so that means good eating and 3 runs again this week.

Ordered some stuff from xtreme nutrition that I am waiting on... ordered it last night.. hopefully it comes to my work today.

Other than that I really want some protein bars lol. GIMMIE.

yay was down a round kg at weigh in this week. that + with increased lifting ability making me feel good.

had an epic mothers day feast at my place... i actually was really good but had a slice of this cake i made, and almost had to lie down because the room started to spin haha! I think my body spazzed out with all the sugar was not nice.

But then I spent all night up and down to the toilet :S and kind of in a fever.. one of my worst sleeps I have ever had. Ew. So missed gym this morning, still not sure what that was all about to be honest.

I would love to lose 1.5kgs this week but my Sunday makes that kind of a challenge already ha ha.

M1: Oats, yog

M2: Chickpeas, green tea

M3: 85g tuna, rice thins x2

M4: Chickpeas

M5: ? after preparing food all weekend for mothers day I don't think I know what to have for dinner lol. Might have tuna again :(
