Marosturdy,

Picking up on your question from one of the other forums, and putting it in your journal...there are folks on here who'd be happy to help...but only in one place, and only when they can.

Yes, losing fat is complicated - that's why Weight Watchers, and Jenny Craig, and so many others make lots of money from de-mystifying it. If it were easy, it wouldn't be the health crisis it is.

It starts out with some simple rules - like:

- expend more energy than you take in (run a calorie deficit

in your diet, not a carbohydrate deficit)

- All bodies needs a balanced diet comprising:

protein from a variety of sources (chicken, meat, fish, eggs,

soy, whey, to name the staples)'

clean, natural carbs - rice, oats, fruits, nuts, kumara

fats - common sources include fish oil, flaxseed oil, nuts

When I say 'clean carbs' - that tends to rule out a lot

of sugars, but even they have their place. It DOES

rule out refined flour, heavily refined sugar, and

especially High Fructose Corn Syrup - that's a

waistline killer right there.

These three are best delivered in a ratio probably not far off 45:45:10, consistent with your body's energy needs. The closer they are to the source (the less refined/ processed) the better.

The nutrition labels on foods are your friends - once you understand two things: how many calories you need, and which of the three to get them from.

You will also learn about fluid - and the effect of sodium on the body. Too much salt will prompt the body to retain fluid and make you look fat. To enhance food, use herbs and spices. Incidentally, chilli powder is thermogenic - it helps the metabolism burn faster.

Another great myth - there is NO SUCH THING as spot reduction. To reduce belly fat, reduce bodyfat - and the neat thing is the rest of your body will benefit too.

Once you have a diet with a calorie deficit (so you're burning more calories each day than you take in), the question becomes How to burn those calories.

Bigger muscle groups burn calories faster than smaller ones. Abs are not a big muscle group, compared to legs, back, or chest, for example - so to uncover your abs, train all the muscle groups - counterintuitive, huh?

Weights can burn calories if you do it right....with intensity, beyond a faint hint of sweat. So can cardio - if done with intensity. Have a read of this article

Your body has fuel choices - and in bodybuilding we learn how to use those choices as we shape our workouts to retain and build muscle while burning bodyfat. It is a delicate, highly specific balance for each individual, but once you learn it, it does get easier, promise!.

Here ends today's installment...oh, and to prove I was paying attention, good luck with the essay. What's it about?

its not coming along too good! i havent been to the gym in a while  .

I have to make a eating plan and gym schedule, i think that'll help me stay on track

still have some time left!

From what I've seen on this site with your posts, I think you really need to talk to a professional in person. If you are serious about losing some weight, I think you need a trainer to steer you in the right direction and help keep you on track.

Junk food + missing the gym does not equal weight loss.

I was gonna throw in all sorts of quotes like "The journey of a thousand miles starts with a single step" - but the short answer is the Nike one...

JUST DO IT. Get a Trainer to make you the plan today, start TODAY, there is NO TOMORROW.

Like TeamFatBoy said get a trainer and you'll reach your goals.

nah, i can do it on me own. i use to be 85.5 kgs and i have lost 11-12 kgs so far on me own. I'm sure i can lose another 10 or so wit out a personal trainer.

I am just stressed at the moment and wen im stressed i eat.

i am an emotional person
