Just saying hi to all

Hey out there,

I'm really enjoying a second chance at weight training. I used to be very enthusiastic and lifted everyday as a teenager then went the wrong way for over a decade, drink, drugs, alcohol, etc.

I quit smoking 16months ago after 20years of heavy smoking without any trouble and now look to be possibly facing lung cancer (fingers crossed I may have some other reason for lung lesions) typically ironic huh? haha oh well! the positive thing has been that it's really given me a boost to get myself in shape to face any treatment I may have to go through. It's been great so far, cardio has been tough but have made great progress there. A walk up stairs would have puffed me out and given me stitch 2 months ago, now I jog round Mangere mountain in 10 mins per lap (which is amazing for me).

I really wanna turn alot of my weight into muscle and have a good frame I think for it? 235lbs 16 and a half stone, and 5" 11'.

I'm here to try and gain some knowledge as I've only ever been a "for fun" lifter.

anyway, I'll get to asking you all for advice on the appropriate boards and posting where I'm at so far in my uneducated program.

Look forward to chatting with you all.

:)

Yeah hi Nemesis, welcome aboard. Weight training and fitness training in general is certainly a positive change to most peoples lives, my own included - which like yours was full of all the smoking/drinking/etc for a long time, about 10 years of that in my case. I feel sooo much better these days, now that I workout and eat right instead of voluntarily poisoning myself 20 times each day. So you've made the right choice mate.

Must be a scary moment suddenly facing lung issues like that - best of luck with it all - keeping healthy and fit from now on has got to be a good thing whatever the scenario is.

Hello, welcome! When will you find out more about your lungs? Hope it's nothing too bad! Well done for turning your life around and quitting smoking, there are quite a few of us on here that come from a similar background to you including myself I smoked for 14 years, drank and did drugs for years, although it was alot of fun at the time I feel alot better in myself now!!

What sort of training are you going to do what's your programme like?

as runveerun said some of us have come from that as well...12+ yrs smoker, drinker, drugs.

Considering the body gets around to replacing every cell in the body every 7 yrs (including bones) most of us are now totally different people :-)

welcome!
