hack squat

today i realised that with no extra weight on it, it's actually 90 pounds :pfft:

1x10

massive pain in the back of my knees cause of swelling so that's all i did

cardio:

20 mins of proper HIIT

5 min warm down, weeeeee light headedness

the good news is i made it down the stairs :pfft:

Yep, the actual weight of the machines can be a fair amount...I checked the Smith Machine at my gym, despite the 'assistance' the bar's still got an effective weight of between 5-7kg I reckon...but that is off-set against the extra stability over a free bar.

With your knees, do you find any specific position doesn't kill the joints? Altho you emphasise different muscles by moving foot position (feet together, feet wide, high on footplate, low on footplate), have an experiment in case some angles come at the joint in a more comfortable manner. If it's actual contact with the machine that hurts, there may be other exercises that have the same effect as a machine.

Oh, and good effort at the unassisted stair descend  :pfft:

nah, it's just the extra weight on the joint that hurts, tried different angles and widths, can still do them just can't straighten my knee fully.

hehe i should add to my workout

take it easy on your joints, they the only ones u got :shifty:

If you have a hard time to walk the next day it might be a good idea to hire a zimmer frame or a wheel chair just be on the safe side of things.
 give it a rest, im sure youve written this on every1s thread

yeah if this stuff is gonna ruin you dont do it. or try body weight exercises like lunges or sissy squats for legs. that way you joints wont be taking more load than they are used to

once i am able to walk properly i'll try this, IF i am able to walk properly again. THIS SUCKS! i'm gonna go have a winge

does your doc know your lifting weights ?

yes she does, she told me to leave them alone for two weeks

Hey becbec, have you tried any other forms of alternative medicine to try and combat this problem with your joints at all? I don't really know much about all that, but if it were me I'd be tempted to look into that sort of thing as well as conventional medicine. Maybe acupuncture or something might be able to help relieve the inflammation? Results may vary :pfft: But of course, the same goes with doctors prescribing drugs which may or may not help an individual. Just a thought which occurs as I read your current situation.

no i haven't tried acupuncture but i'm trying an anti-inflammatory diet for the next 8 weeks to see if it helps, been taking USANA procosamine (4 tablets daily) and fish oil (6 tablets daily)

hopefully will start some physio in the next week, hydrotherapy, mmmm hot pools :D
