Bicep shot tonight

Bulbous guns!

I don't do pullups btw, I'm getting too big and my biceps swell up after just one set which tells me it's too heavy.

I will do them as I cut though I promise, no excuses.

Yay :D

good work on the pbs :)
Slept in until after 8pm really need my rest more today than any other day.

8pm??

Also, I think changing it up is sweet, maybe add some weight to your high rep sets now if you can??

yeah it's a time-machine thing I've been working o....never mind you'd never believe me....

oh yeah agree, I can tweak them up a bit now!

Coming along nicely there Android

I've always found switching in and out of heavy/light sessions 2 weeks on/2 off works well for me. For my heavy 2 week periods, i'll stick to predominately compounds work 3 bodyparts per session instead of my normal 1 and only do 3 sessions a week instead of 5.

If you're going to go heavy - you need more rest - thats just a logical fact.

So....imo just be careful throwing random heavy compound sessions into your normal weekly workout plan without adjusting the rest of the week or you may find overtraining kicks in real fast - with subsequent loss of strength and a slid to the catabolic side (unless you compensate).

Nice work on the squats by the way

Good advice ... completely relate to that. I'm particularly poked after a heavy dead session as well. Been training so long my body instinctively slows me down if I decide to change gears mid workout - although now I think it's more important to stick to the plan.

4 reps @ 180 is all good mate ....

yes I felt it today guys

Took half a day off I was so shattered, went home and ate, then had a nap, got up and ate again.

I won't do another workout like this probably again before October I don't think 4 reps is going to help muscle hypertrophy enough to risk the side effects. Like you say Pete_S about catabolism, also potential injury and when cutting a lowered immune system too, loss of appetite etc.

Training partner and I both commented on how tonight's workout had lost its spark and energy and we put it down to yesterdays workout.

Tonight after the Shoulders workout I've had x2 250gm chicken meals before bedtime. Wish I had glutamine handy or steak instead tbh.

Oh not to cause panic but I think it won't be long before swine flu goes through a gym. It appears in schools easily enough and on the news it just appeared in a prison.

Anyway....

Shoulders tonight, first up was 7 working sets of standing barbell press to the front of the body. I go down well below the parallel arms I find pushing upwards from just above the chest is where I get the most out of this exercise, like a military press. 7 sets at 10-15 reps and very little rest between sets was good. Panadol was kicking in so the pain was blunted, sweet.

Rear delts next on the pec dec machine, 5 working sets, last sets were heavier probably 3/4 stack. Every movement was deliberate and with the seat low I could get a good squeeze on the rear delts.

Next up was side raises with dumbbells, 5 sets of very strict upright raises with 10kg, last sets were 12.5kg. Rep-range with 10s was 15-20 which I need for side raises to get them pumped up.

Finally more rear delts, lying sideways on a bench and doing single arm raises. This one killed and pumped the rear delts up higher than I've seen them look before. I love working rear delts, I think they make a physique stand out, and of course the back looks wider too.

Haven't done single arm cable side raises passing the cable behind me for a long time, even harder is sliding a bench into position and doing them seated...strict as!, made a mental note to do these next time.

Looking forward to the Auckland Champs tonight. I try and go to pre-judging but just couldn't this morning with other commitments. Tonight should be a blast!

Last night was middle back and I went through a good overall routine. Can get way more done on this portion of the Back than I ever could with just doing Back on a single day. Scales nearly tipped me at 115kg last night as soon as I reach 115 I will start to cut, i promise...the lure of a number has never meant so much to me before.

First up werre David Henry spceials, the cross over cables set at just above head height. Can really feel my skin folding in a crease in the centre of my Back so this is my perfect exercise, suits the reach of my limbs etc.

Next up was the bent-over row, the equipment with a pad you semi-stand, semi-lie over and hoist up some weight. And some weight it was I felt strong last night and motivated, the 20kg plates crept up to ..... 6. Biggest weight I've done on these to date, 120kg PB for 7 unassisted reps.

The motivation came I think from having just been in Moes shop where the Auckland champs weigh-in was taking place. Lots of hungry guys checking you out as you walk in to see if you're there to compete and sizing you up LOL get over it and have fun! Helped me anyway lift a PB so sweet fellas.

Seated row machine with wide-grip was next and nothing major to report. Average weight good squezes that's all.

Hyperextensions next I did 5 sets of 12 - 20 reps and a 5kg plate. Really trashed my lower back so much that the last exercise was affected and my drive home was uncomfortable.

Last exercise was shrugs with cables. Whenever I had to pick them off the floor my lower back muscles were aching and made me feel weak-as. I felt like an old man but it was muscle exhaustion not old-man aches. This is why I don't do Hammies following a Back workout or vice-versa. The lower Back support is critical for strength and without it you're a rag doll so other muscles have to come in to help support.

Over! Watch the movie "Sex Drive" last night pretty funny I guess and had 2 chicken meals before going to bed.

Ok gotta get ready for the night show it kicks off at 5:30....I have about 600gms of chicken and a bottle of Coke to take with me, and some water. If the show finishes in good time I'll make it down to Pashes and say Hi to everyone, if it's late and I'm out of food I'm sorry I will head home to eat :-( 'tis a bodybuilders life. If you see me at the show in the front row throw something at me to say 'Hi', if I don't say Hi and I pole-drive you into the floor, then it wasn't me you were saying Hi to \:D/

I wish I was at the show so many blondes at the show I would have been feeling a bit :shifty: because of me being good looking film star  .How was Mike D gusse poseing?

LOL GymRat

MikeD's guest posing was really well received and he's looking great for a Pro debut and he's gonna do well.

He has a good shape for a Pro bodybuilder and with each year he packs on more muscle he's going to be catching up with Moe, imagine an Olympia with 2 NZer's in it!

Nato is almost in a class of his own now ... definately Elite. The size difference to Chris was pretty decent although I must say that Chris has a very classic shape to his physique. (tight waist) Will be good to see him progress over the next 12 months as there is a lot of potential there.

Will be interestig to see how each will improve moving into Nationals. Both forces to be reckoned with

I agree Optimass, Chris Chase looked really sharp . Great shape and symmetry.

Nato looked really iimpressive his definition across his physique, esp. his Abs and intercostals/serratus, hams and back is outstanding- a pro in the making.

Was a great, well run show.

Call me old fashioned, but as a true blue kiwi, it was nice to start the show with the national anthem sung by Charlie. I believe she was one half of Deep Obsession and has a great, soul full voice.

Good numbers and quality of contestants throughout. Quite a few guys from the islands came over to compete.

The dance section was a good change of tempo too.

All in all an excellent show, good to catch up with: Big Android (who stood out hugely in a canary yellow t), Loochi, 1 day, Sounds Good, Vee, Laura, Big Girl, Big Mike D, sorry if I missed anyone out.

As for the Bikini Model section, people will have their own opinions on that, if it is chosen to stay, they probably just need to look at standardising the 1/4 turns and stream lining it a bit, maybe less time doing comparisons and more individual time? not sure?

All in all a great start to the NZFBB calendar.

SORRY ANDROID, I thought I was posting this in the Competitors Corner section, sorry to rant on your journal, late night!

I saw a photo Nato on Go Figure from the show and I would have to agree with Matrix that Nato is a pro in the making with a very impressive physique.

Yesterday I had the start of a cold, a sore throat. I woke up Sunday morning and thought 'oh crap, not what I wanted'. But better now than later I think this is my first cold of the year and so far not a flu (touches plastic keyboard for luck).

I had a sleep in the afternoon and got up and went to the gym for Hammies anyway, just 2 exercises the Leg Press and Lying Leg Curls.

I still went to muscle exhaustion the cold didn't make me too tired but skipped Calves for sure. Leg Press first up and I worked up to did 7 plates each side, each set was 12-15 reps I did 5 sets.

My stance is wide and high.

Lying Leg Curls I worked up to a good weight where I could only just get out 8-10 reps.

Seems like a basic workout right?

This morning woke-up with the most hellish sore throat since I did 'bucket-bombs' with a flu about 10 years ago. Half day at work, nap this afternoon and not sure about working out yet. Someone at work asked me if I still go to the gym when I get sick. I said if it's the flu and I feel weak then no, if it's a cold then yes I still go and just take it easy.

I can't be assed going tbh but I also shouldn't spread what I have to others...got 2 hours to decide *cough cough*

Cough on everyone, it frees up the bench etc :D

Unless you're dying stop making excuses and go. You can rest when you're dead.
