nice interviews esp aus bodyuilding one .....

do you think it puts you at a disadvantage puttin all the info out there ? as oppose to keepin undercover ?

No i dont think so, being in the industry of Personal Training anything i can do to promote myself is good for Business. I'm no threat to anyone, and im gona be a no one in the states, and i have my own personal goals of what id like to acheive, so the only expectatons that i need to live up to are that of my own.

If i was a real threat (maybe in years to come :pfft:) id keep covered up so the competion didnt know what i was up to.

And if i can help motivate other with pics or interveiws thats a bonus, i was lucky enough through my BBing to have a couple of people to look up too as i was through the ranks.

Not tempted to drop another 10lbs and be eligible for the 202 class?

No. no disrespect to any 202 competitor but i want to compete against all the best guys i can, and most of them are in the open weight, and as of this yr you cant compete in the 202 and the open weight.

Also if Dave P thinks that i will be 212. then the only way id get down to the 202 is to loose muscle and that the opposite to what im here for.

Yeah if there's one thing that bodybuilding has taught me, isat the end of the day you have to go with whats going to be best for you and your body. Think your right Mike re losing too much muscle.

Dont want to hijack your thread but just wondering from watching the GO Figure video, why do you lean back so much on your lat pulldowns? I appreciate you are using a really heavy weight and probably in part to get the thing down BUT Ive always believed pulldowns for width (so you should keep them strictly up and down); rows for the thickness component of your back...?!

Cheers

You are right to a degree. as i had no training partner that day the last few reps get a little messey just to force out the last few reps. thing is once you have experence you can often get away with a bit more in regards to technique. Check out some of the horendous way that some of the top guys do there exercises. its a bit like a top race driver can afford to push the envolpe a bit more than a newbee.

Agreed.....Ronnie Coleman used to get away with some stuff but then off course he had such a strength base and years behind him....we have a guy at our gym who pushes the envelope too BUT he aint the next Ronnie Coleman: it aint pretty watch and it aint pretty to hear (and the guy has no legs)

Keep up the good work, you're looking good!

Good discussions there. As a fitness profesional, you learn to teach ultra strict/text book technique as to instill a correct motor pattern on each client, especially those who haven't weight trained yet and still require the co ordination and neural adaptations required to get stronger.

Guys like Mike D and others with years of experience can push it further, in fact to move the types of poundages that strong guys like this need to move to get their type 11b fibres to hypertrophy, a little swing or body english is often used, especially to get past a sticking point or the weakest point in a range of motion.

We have all seen the pro's training on vids and to an exercise physiologist their technique make look a little sloppy and dangerous, but anecdotely it works. After 20 years of training, the pro's know how to activate the target muscles to grow and overlly strict technique could infact limit your eventual size. Many exercise pro's will argue otherwise, however most studies have been conducted on untrained individuals, not advanced trainers, who require more overload/intensity to continue to grow.

When you watch an olympic lifter move a weight, its done explosively and with many muscles working in tandem to lift the weight.

A strong bodybuilder accelerates the weight using SOME assistance from other muscle groups to get a heavy enough resistance to get the job done. It's a fine line but years of experience and trial and era go into this.

A good quote from Dave Draper: To be a good bodybuilder you need to use B+ technique not A+ TECHNIQUE. I think that somes it up better than any other quote than ive heard before.

Good Luck with the training Mike.

shapes looking good mike, are we gonna see some shredded glutes come show time?

id like to think ill get close, but have never had shreeded glutes yet< hard yes, never shreaded, glutes like dan hibbs, and peter hunt, have a large genetic component, my glutes will be the hardest they have ever been thats for sure.

At this stage they are the best they have been at 14weeks out, i have never dieted longer than 12 weeks, and infact for 2007 had dieted only 10 weeks so the 20weeks that i have put into this trip should pay some dividence, to this point i have only done a max of 4hrs cardio per week to come from 109kg to 101 that i am now, infact the spin bike is being dusted off tonight!!
