Was prepping myself to hit a full set of 200kg squat all day. Unfortunately my Halodrol has been held up by the couriers so Ive been off cycle for the past 4 days. This has definately made a difference and I walked into the gym not 100% on song.

I had a few good warmup sets then loaded the 200kg onto the bar. Made the first rep pretty easy, second one was harder. Got to the bottom of the third and started to feel the strain, managed to push it out though. Should have racked it as I didnt have a spotter and wasnt really that confident but I gave a fourth rep a crack anyway. Got to the bottom, and started to push it back up. Got half way and I knew I was in trouble. Freaked out a bit and put my arm out and tried to use the safety rail to push me up then thought WTF am I doing. Brought it down slowly and gave the safety rails a test. Yes they can comfortably support a 200kg barbell

Oh well thats 3 x 200kg squats. A personal record and a benchmark I have been aiming for a while

480kg leg press!!, your a beast, considering you've only been at it a short time, keep it up. Go for that half a ton next time man!!

Im pacing myself man. Adding 10kg per week. Ill hit the half tonne real soon

You know the gayest part is unloading the sled. The last thing you want to do after pressing that much weight is taking it all off and putting it away. I always try to convince someone else to use the leg press after me, then I can slink off to the other end of the gym and leave it to someone else :pfft:

It it must be royal pain in the ass putting away all thoes weights after using the leg press :pfft: :pfft: other gym members must be  after seeing all those weights being used.

yeah I had a crowd around me on the leg press aye. Thought they must have been admiring me but then I realised they were all annoyed at me cause I had all the free weights on the leg press :pfft:

Actually funny you should mention this Varven. I have been seriously thinking about it lately. Thanks heaps for the heads up on this event, probably a bit soon for me though. I reckon Ive probably got a 3 -4 more months of growth in me.

But then again, as you say, just give it a blast who cares about the weights. If I managed around 550kg total at 105kg on the day it would probably be worth it. Could do another one at the end of my bulk to gauge strength improvements. hmmmm

Stop right there, thinking about weights will make you come up with all these idiotic ideas.

Just do it.. my first novice meet, I bombed the bench (cause of injuries), did only squat and deadlift... its great motivation....

who cares what your total is... your not trying to break any records(as yet), youre doign it for yourself.

True that, and Im sure its pretty different on the day with people watching and the pauses etc. So for the first meet just be happy with what I can do. Im sure I would learn heaps too.

My only concern is what will happen once I get a taste. I can get quite obsessed about things, and I can see myself changing my training around so I can bench more, squat more and dead more. Which isnt nessesarily a bad thing.........

I reckon youd without trouble nail a 210 squat, 145 bench and a 220 deadlift? .... 575 total at 105kg... and then next time around you can aim for 675 at 110 or something like that.

Squat - yes

Bench - would be hard cause I dont train with a pause at the bottom but yes also acheivable

Dead - Always use straps so I have to start training with chalk to get my grip strength up I reckon. 2 weeks wouldnt be enough time to hit a dead that heavy raw.

675 would definately be the goal maybe next season.

Question, do they ever drug test at the meets? I dont suppose that would be very relevant as its more of a gauge against yourself kind of thing and theres no prizes? Not that I wouldnt pass, just wondering about calibre of other competitors.

AFAIK they do not test at the meets. Once you become a member of an organisation then you can be randomly tested.

It doesn't matter if others there are juicing or not.... invariably some individuals maybe but by and large the majority will not be.

Don't underestimate your ability to improve the dead grip.. even with 2 weeks you can hit a decent lift. not like you;re going to bomb at 150.

You will pull a substantial amount .....

If you are aiming to do the lift on the 15th,

For your next training week just do a squat day, bench day and deadlift day...

work up to a few sets of 5 reps... the following week you can hit 3 reps.. but make sure you have at least a good 4 days rest after your last workout before the meet .. at the meet go for your singles... it will be a micro periodized cycle ...
