I had curly fries TFB we went to Hogs Breath and you can't go there without having steak and curly fries  hehe

Yep, been there, done that, got caught doing it... is right!

Good luck with the p/l comp...what are you going to do in the couple of days prior, anything different apart from rest?

Serioulsy I have been eating too much, no more chips or cookies (my favourite) for me  I think I am still 77kgs which is almost 10kgs above my BB stage weight of 67.8kgs on 18 October! Ideally I should have stayed within 5kgs. I went from size 12 to 10 to 8 then 10 and now 12 which isn't terrible but would like more definition. I just look like big girl haha very appropriate. Will drop a few kgs in next few weeks through better diet and chuck in a bit of cardio.

This week I will do just cardio, walking and stretching. I am hoping to do just above 300 total which will be fine for 1st comp, as I'm just new and learning. I'm not sure whether to kick off on my max lifts of 110 dead, 100 squat, 90 bench and then just go up in 2.5kg increments - any ideas guys???? Slightly lower?

Ohh lucky rest week for yoU!! I would start slightly lower. You want to get an easy lift for all your first attempts to build confidence and make sure you have one with perfect depth etc etc so you have a qualifying lift on everything incase something goes wrong with your next 2 :) you never know!! good luck :)

As L said start easy, something you can triple as your opener maybe Squat 90-92.5,then 100 Bench 82.5-85 then 90 Dead depending on how you feel 100 then 110. Try to get your maxes on your 2nd attempt and PBs on your Third. Don't start on your max, :naughty: there three judges convince them first  you do not want to bomb.

Powerlifting comp tomorrow woo hoo! Shitting my daks really

Yesterday just did 30min Xtrainer, today at home with my sick 5 year old so just mucking about really. I feel like I have shrunk from no weights since Saturday haha I think straight after PL comp I'm off down to Les Mills to sling some iron around I miss my weights its insane.

Tomorrow I hope to total 300kgs min, 110 dead, 100 squat, 90 bench so fingers crossed. I have had dreams about it for the last 2 nights and very very nervous :?

Hey biggurl. Good luck with the comp!

Laura's advice some days ago was really good. My ex was an NZ Powerlifting champion and I went to quite a few comps including last years Nationals. Laura was really highly regarded by people. Like she said, you HAVE to make certain your first lift is relatively easy. That way you are in the comp and can really go for it on 2nd and especially 3rd lifts. The basic rule is something you can do a triple for as your opener. AND also very important for a first competition, you HAVE to LISTEN for the REFS calls! eg. bench press. Don't lower bar till you hear "start", then lower bar to chest, hold upper body tight till you hear "press", then raise bar and hold till you hear "rack". It is easy to mess this up in a first comp. Many do! Make ceretain you are aware of the relevant lift rules for squat and deadlift also - they are more simply.

My ex has a collection of powerlift articles - he specialised in bench and squat (very strong). Will PM you links if you need anything.,...just ask

Lift strong and have fun hun

Powerlifting comp was heaps of fun. Didn't realise you had to strip off to your undies to get weighed so that was pretty funny! Great to meet everyone.

Felt very nervous and went to the loo 6 times and asked if they had a spew bucket before I went on, I was that nervous it was terrible!

Squat

1st 90kgs 1 red as opened hands

2nd 97.5kgs fail with depth

3rd 97.5kgs listened to OB call "up" when below pararrell

Bench

1st 80kgs fail - grip claw not thumbs around

2nd 80kgs fail - couldn't get used to grip

3rd 80kgs fail awkward and

Deadlift

90kgs all good easy

105kgs all good easy

130kgs PB and felt good - up 20kgs from PB

Was a great day but wish I kicked off my bench lighter and knew what the grip was, will need to practice my grip on bench and improve on that. 80kgs is usually really easy but I just couldn't do it on the day which was crap-o. Should be able to do heavier on all next time. Overall had a great time except for ducking off to the loo a million times and feeling like being sick constantly.

I was meaning to talk to you but you left! Awesome deadlift, I watched the video of it and it looked easy.

Changing your bench grip on the day isn't fun, but you definitely should. People get away with the suicide grip for years... but then one day they just slip...

I don't think you'll want to be doing it again after watching that!

Wow, dramatic video clip.

Well done bg27! Can't beat experience. You have broken the ice so onwards and upwards for the next one. Many of my friends are competing powerlifters. A couple were in your weekend comp. Basically no one uses the thumbs free grip for safety AND various other reasons. No doubt your strength will increase simply by getting used to the "thumbs around the bar" grip.

All power and strength to you

Is bg's deadlift vid available through this site, or is there some link to it?
