Everything in moderation  and carbs are the enemy of the waistline.

I think that if you have to have some carbs, the general opinion is that kumara's better than potato...

But what it boils down to (still talking corned beef!) is that a successful weight-loss programme almost inevitably involves restricting carbs.

In my specific case (100kg guy, weights and cardio six days/week), my daily diet has 100g brown rice, 100g brown bread, and four apples, plus whatever's in cucumber and tomato and lettuce- plenty of protein, tho!.

So, learn to distinguish "clean" carbs - much less processed, so no white bread, croissants (taste the butter, yum!)...

A good trainer could probably help sort you out a way of coping with being in a workplace riddled with hazards like fresh frittata, choccie cake and the like. Many folks find the 'six small meals a day' helps prevent grazing....

swimmer I would avoid the fizzy drinks that are high in suger but go for the one's that have a low sugar content for the likes of diet coke, coke zero, diet lift and other diet fizzy drinks that are out there.Find a good trainer that is out there he or she will help with your diet.

One thing to avoid if you're trying to lose body fat is High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS), which you'll find in a lot of things, including many diet drinks, not just fizz.

This is nasty stuff....and will work against any good intentions. Read the food lable, and if HFCS is in the top half-dozen ingredients (they're always listed in order from the most prevalent to the least), put it back on the shelf.

Drink your coffee black. If you don't like it, just drink it a few times - you'll get used to it.

Yes, i drink soya short machiattos for those who know what that is

Today

8.00 woke up VERY late - made me some sculpt. the berry flavour tastes like shit

10.00 2 plums

12.00 tomato, smoked chicken and avocado sandwich on wholemeal bread

4.00 3 spicy wedges

6.00 - work got very busy so i didn't have time to eat before going for a swim

7.30 leftover mince stirfry toaties with cheese

First impressions - maybe you're doing two things:

a. not necessarily eating enough, or often enough; and

b. looks a bit like you could stand more protein, less carbs and less fat, but there are others on here who'll know better than I do

You might have added a protein shake at 2pm, which would bring up the amount of protein and help stave off hunger pangs.

There is a theory that soya, which promotes estrogen, is an issue for guys, but there's plenty of strong women here who'll know whether too much soya in the diet is a problem for women trying to cut bodyfat.

On the other hand, it looks like it's all fresh, not processed, which is great!

6.00 - that's exactly what shakes are for. If you don't have time to throw some water in a shaker & drink it - please consider time management classes!

7.30pm - could you have found anything worse to consume?? I doubt it. High fat, high carb = excess body fat (perfect recipe)

I'm not a big fan of the berry sculpt either 26326e49.gif. From memory, I think Sculpt was the very first protein powder I ever tried too.. which led me to believe that ALL protein powders were gross lol. After this tub you can maybe search out a nicer flavour out there with a better nutrient profile

I agree that preparation's the key. If you don't have your meals prepped in advance, it makes it waaayy easier to just reach for the convenient junky stuff

Diet gettin better. At least you had the carb-fest in the morning when you are more likely to burn it off. Dinner also 100% better. Ocean swim is a great idea.

Have you done much ocean swimming?

Quiche - carbs; fried fish - carbs; chips - carbs; muffin - carbs... if you want really to shift that tum, that ain't the way to do it.

Any chance you could maybe do the cardio first thing - like before breakfast - or later at night, just before bed? That would possibly make what time you can commit, more effective.

TFB is right, and if you want to persist in eatin all those carbs suggest you do double the cardio (AM & PM).

Up the water - should be 3L minimum - especially workin hospo - runiin around & on your feet all day.

by my quiche i meant my egg whites and tuna microwave creation, but you're right carbs are baaaad!!

so i've just moved house (into the hood!) and i'm paying for it (thinking that i was strong enough to lift stuff by myself) and now my legs and arms are really sore! had to pump up the dose of prednisone last friday and now i'm mrs moon face :( and pissed off cause it hurts too much to work out

since i can't work out i'm focussing a LOT on my diet so i don't lose my results

a typical days food is

breakfast: half serving of berry sculpt (still not palating this very well, might change the flavour next time) i'm thinking of buying some protein isolate instead. good choice?

snack: piece of fruit

lunch: 2xegg whites and half a can of tuna quiche microwave creation thing with 2 pieces of fruit

dinner: omgomgomg laurasaur, those protein pancakes are pretty darn good! have had them for dinner the last 4 nights

have been doing a little bit of hydrotherapy out at burwood since my neuralgia is playing up. they have foam things for resistance training which kinda counts as exercise?? i dunno lol

been off work too, so that's probably why my diet is so good

Now that diet's better - esp since you actually had the "good" quiche (or is that the good "quiche"!).

Anything that gets the HR up has to count as exercise IMO - and just cos hydrotherapy or even resistance bands may not look hard, it can be very effective.

Whey's a very subjective thing, I think - but yep, mix the brands and types. Isolate (WPI) is my preference on account of the better yield, and I've found Dymatize Elite, or Metapro from Metaphysics, to be among the more palatable.
