Nice workout today - chest, delts, tris, traps

Doing 3 DB movements in 1 day has proven to be a little too much for the old back and I'm hobbling around a bit at the moment. :( Too much moving the DBs from the bench to the rack I reckon.

I'll switch things around a bit and do 1 -2 DB movements per workout.

Incline DB press

40 x 7

That's a lifetime personal best for me. I was aiming for 30kg just to get back into using DBs but the 27.5kg DBs were so easy I went for 35kg, which were easy for 12 reps, so I went to the 40s and just missed 8. Very satisfying.....I'll stick with the 40s until I can get 10+ reps.

Seated DB press

27.5 x 10

DB shrugs

32.5 x 12

(Last time 30 x 14)

Pushdowns

72 x 12

(Last time 69 x 12)

Killer DB pressing mate. Congratulations on the new PB
nice work on the incline press man. ur stronger than me there

Thanks guys - I was really surprised at being able to move the 40s but when I thought about how much incline work I've done over the last 6 months or so, it makes sense.

My left bicep is giving me grief for some reason, :banging: I didn't notice any specific injury while training recently, so it might just be a bit of tendonitis. Anyway - I decided to rest it today and hit chest, delts and tris again.

I'm heading for a cruise soon, so I don't mind mixing it up a bit for a week or so.

Leg Press

160 x 15

160 x 15

160 x 12

Just feeling things out here with a few light sets, trying to get back into training legs. The joint formula seems to be slowly sorting out my knees, which is great news.

Smith Machine Incline Press

60 x 7

(Last time 57.5 x 8 )

I finally got to 60kg on the smith machine. I thought I would get 8 reps but there was just no way that 8th rep was going back up.

Seated DB Press

30 x 9

(Last time 27.5 x 10)

Rear Lateral Raises

14 x 15

(Last time 12 x 10)

I've added these recently because my rear delts are missing getting hit by rack deads. I'll climb up the DB rack quite quickly with these.

Close Grip Bench Press

92.5 x 8

(Last time 92.5 x 7)

Went for 9 reps but failed badly - good thing the rack supports were there to save my ass.

For some reason, when I fail on CG press, I just can't support the BB at all...it just comes down like a cartoon anvil :pale:

I'm going to crank up my food intake until the end of this training cycle and really try and drag out everything I can from it.

nice work. that smith press is quite low compared to your other lifts ?

Thanks jono. It's about the same as my incline BB press, which is just over 80kg including the BB. The bar and mechanism on the smith must be close to 20kg, so with 60kg of weights, I'm in the same ballpark.

Good job man, DB presses gains are comming along nicely!

Yep - I'm really enjoying them but the trip between the rack and the bench is quite nerve wracking. I got my old belt out of the bottom of the cupboard but it doesn't fit anymore (WTF??) and neither does the one at the gym  . I'll see what's available on TradeMe.

My left bicep still isn't feeling great, so I'm back to chest, delts, traps and tris.

This is my third chest, delts, traps and tris workout in a row but I can get away with it because my volume is so low.

Incline DB press

40 x 8

(Last time 40 x 7)

I really thought I would get 9 reps today but I just couldn't lock out on the 9th rep. Still, I got at least 1 extra rep.

Hammer shoulder press

70 x 8

(Last time 70 x 8 )

I couldn't beat my reps on this one today - my front delts were fried after the incline DB presses so I was glad just to equal my old PB. 5kg more to max out this machine.

Rear Lateral Raises

16 x 14

(Last time 14 x 15)

DB shrugs

32.5 x 14

(Last time 32.5 x 12)

Pushdowns

70 x 12

(Last time 72 x 12)

I was using a different bar on this movement today and I couldn't quite get into my form, so I didn't try and increase the weights. The bar I like has just disappeared....who hides these damn bars anyway???

Today's workout sort of fizzled out like a firecracker in the rain....I haven't been sleeping well and it's messing with my training.

I did some cardio, then started legs - just some light leg press to get the knees back into it.

Leg Press

180 x 15

180 x 15

180 x 13

(Last time 160 x 15, 160 x 15, 160 x 13)

At this point I was feeling light headed but I tried to train hamstrings:

Seated leg curl

40 x 11

(Last time 40 x11)

I managed to equal my PB, then everything started to go white :pale: and I thought I had better get going while I still could. I probably didn't eat enough today and that combined with feeling generally crap to stop me in my tracks. :(

Smith Machine Incline Press

60 x 9

(Last time 60 x 7)

I expected to struggle with 60kg today (even 50 felt horrible) but I added 2 easy reps here.

Seated DB Press

32.5 x 8

(Last time 30 x 9)

Nice increase here but that's as heavy as I can get into position without tearing my arms or shoulders into small pieces. No way I'll get the 35s up without a few "randoms" as jono calls them to give me a hand.

DB Shrugs

32.5 x 17

(Last time 32.5 x 14)

Staying with the lighter DBs to give my back a break.

Pushdowns

74 x 12

(Last time 72 x 12)

My bicep is still stuffed and getting worse. I get injured more than some serious martial artists I know, who train like crazy. I must have been cursed with tendons made of tissue paper....maybe I can have a transplant and get some #8 wire instead.

At least your still beating the book mate, has the joint formula not kicked in yet, after about 1 month on a joint formula i have no joint issues whatsoever.

The joint stuff is definitely working for my various sore joints but this is a recent injury to my bicep. I think it may be tendon related as usual. Oh well - on with the show, I'll keep training around it.

Nice work all round. I hear what you are saying abbout the seated db press. My limit is about 35 anymore and it is such a struggle getting them into position I cant do any sets !

I have sorted out a training partner now though so I dont have to rely on "randoms"

I used to be able to shift 35kg DBs for seated press about 3 years ago but I really don't want to try getting anything heavier than the 32.5s up right now. Getting "randoms" to spot on DB movements always worries me but at least I only need them to pass me the DB, after that I'm fine.

A set of DB hooks seems like a great idea and now that I'm using DBs again, I might get off my butt and order some.
