Tanning Products

Recommended Posts

Hi all, just wondering what peoples thoughts are on tanning products, what they use either contest colour and Body Shimmer or dream tan or other products. I have only used pro-tan and dream tan in the past, colour was great but pain to get off afterwards.

Application ideas also would be good. I have been a backstage marshall over the years and find 2 coats prior to arrival and 1 coat shimmer/dream tan prior and touch ups on arrival or shimmer/dream tan done on arrival. I have always used a spray/brush for base and rubber gloves and rub between hands and slap it on and perfect finish with roller. What do others do?

I like contest colour and body shimmer...gives off a 'golden' look under the bright lights and smells nice-ish. Pro-tan and dream tan are crap IMO...and they stink too!

Yeah I have heard they come off easier and thought I would give them a go this time around. haha I love the smell of dream tan. Anyone remember that pump & pose, I have that shit too.....now that stinks!!

Pump and pose the SEO?? What were you doing using that biggurl?? :naughty: :naughty:

Not that type ya nut bar, it smells a bit like deep heat and makes you vascular before going on stage. Just so we are clear it was in a spray bottle that you spray on your skin prior to pumping up back stage and could get from any gym stores back in the day.

One similar product looks to be in cream form: Thiomucase cream tightens your skin and may reduce the visible signs of aging. Top amateur & professional athletes achieve not only that Competitive Edge, but also the Ripped & Hard Look.

I used contest colour and shimmer for the last two comps. 3 coats of contest colour for the first one and 4 for the second one (I'm pasty!) Much better colour onstage having a darker base.

Just used a makeup sponge for the contest colour - seemed to work really well and yep gloves and slap on the shimmer.

Used dream tan last year and I much prefer the shimmer - smells better, goes on better and comes off way easier.

Jantana base and 1 light coat of dreamtan. Never bother with any tan prior to the show, got better things to do than mess the car up after tanning  the jantana is dry almost instantly but is best after 15-20 minutes then 1 coat of dreamtan with roller, perfect everytime

3 coats of contest color gave a loovely base and one coat of dreatan slapped on--didn't need to touch up at all---maybe a little for night show.

Thought I'd give protan a go for base next time and maybe give shimmer a go. Does shimmer dry, like dream tan or stay slick--bit worried about getting bikini grubby? How'd you find it Koo Koo?

I found that I didn't need to touch up the Shimmer as much as I did the Dream Tan. Dries well enough but when I did get some Shimmer on my bikini I found it easier to wash off than the Dream Tan. In between the day and night shows I went home and washed and dried the bikini (hooray for hairdryers!) and it came off really easily :)

Ive found 3 coats of Pro Tan(2 on Friday,1 on Saturday morning) and a coat of Dream Tan#2 for the pre Judging and either touch ups or another light coat of Dream Tan#2 to add a gloss/shimmer for the evening show suits me.

Some guys/girls could get away with less, but I don't tan at all so I need the three coats as a base.

Although Dream Tan can be a little messy, I really like the finished colour and you don't need to add a posing oil to it.

thats what i usually do. The jantana comp colour is heaps better than the pro tan base coat.

If anyone is interested in Jan Tana, PM me, and I'll send you a wee sample to try... then you can test patch it before buying!

Jan Tana dries, so no 'dodging' every one back stage. It washes out of your clothes, and showers off with good 'ol soap n water.

Hope this is okay with the site management?!

Contest Colour and Shimmer coat are from Phil Kabakoff. These are now the specified products used at most of the Australian competitions. Dream Tan has been banned due to the mess.

If anyone is interested in finding out more you can pm me also.

The guest posers at the club physical competition on the 2nd of Aug will be using the contest colour and shimmer coat.

Also our favourite NZ Pro bodybuilder Mike K can tell you what he thinks about the various tans, He loves the Phil Kabakoff range.

I just got some JanTana basecoat tan, it smells very yummy-apricot...and it comes with this cute little poof for application-great directions so you can't go wrong...wishing I had of got the BodyGlaze too now--I've just got heaps of shimmer to use.

I'll use for Waikato, and feedback my 2cents...wish I coulda got the glaze--sure I'll look like those figure girls on the packaging---if I just use all the steps.

hehe cool a poof  Look forward to hearing how you get on. I like the sounds of the kabakoff range as it dries and doesn't get everywhere....then oh my goodness, hey presto it washes off!! Love the sound of not being stained all week especially around the ankles, wrists and neck :?

  • 2 weeks later...

Any thoughts on getting a good dark spray tan a couple days out then throwing on dream tan at the comp?

Last year I used 3 coats of dream tan then slapped that other muck on at the comp. Came up a good color but just found it way to messy and a little slippery.

I'm a bit worried bout trying something new and coming up to white on stage (good way to ruin a years work)

JanTana gave a beautiful dark chestnut color with only 1 or 2 coats. This was the most gorgeous color I've come across, smells delicious and dries real quick.

I didn't get rid of my water properly on the day :naughty: (its all a learning curve) so I sweated on stage ... and my tan was a mess :x ---not sure if this is because basecoat needs to be 'set' with glaze..? Is this the case Sheta? (maybe I just gotta get my dehydrating sorted & not try and be clever and try new things  )

Hadn't used shimmer before and think I had way too much on at Waikato.

Everything washed off easily and the Jantana has left me with a nice looking tan this week (not jaundiced looking at all-just a deep golden color)

This weekend I'm using Phil Kabakhoff contest colour day before and a coat of shimmer before going on stage. I'm liking this range and looking forward to using on Saturday.
