Shakes are no comparison to real meat. You still get your protein with a shake but there is alot of other goodies in meat.

Good thing us vegetarians have got shakes then

I just completely dropped soy products from my diet, so I've had to find up to 50 grams of extra protein a day from somewhere else. Just what I need to make my boring diet even more mind numbing.

wow a vegetarian bb. im shocked. i cant imagine what that would be like

I wrote a brief outline about how I eat in this thread:

interesting stuff man.

why did you become a vegetarian ?

Health reasons mostly. I was eating too much red meat, so I started to cut back. It just kind of got away from me and the next thing I knew, I was a vego. :?

Nutrients schmutrients :P

I have a theory that vegetarianism works for some people and not for others.

I generally feel great as a vego, as does my wife but for some strange reason, there are people out there who eat a very good vegetarian diet and still end up being sickly and anemic. I've heard theories about people with certain blood groups being more suited to being vegetarian, not sure how valid those theories are though.

Maybe it's all in the mind?

Ash,

how come you choose to cut off eggs? its not soo anti vegetarian is it ?

4 whole eggs and 6 whites only would bump in another wonderfull 40 g of protein to your overall diet everyday !

Well guys I can consider Ash's point of view, Im not a big fan of read meat either, my proteins from chicken, eggs, tuna, seafood and once or twice a week lamb for a change.

But then again red meat eaters do have it easy to get massive whallops of protein in one go right ?

No real reason. Just didn't really fancy eggs for a while.

I added them back to my diet last week.

Could be - I had a full blood test last week. Just about everything is spot on - Haemoglobin is at the upper end of the scale, which is good for a vego.

The only thing that's low probably doesn't have anything to do with being a vego. My testosterone is way down, which is obviously not great news.

I'll be starting another thread soon to discuss this issue and my "road to recovery".

Do you take a multi? Zinc is very important to natural test levels, not sure about the content in meat but i would speculate thats where most of us non-vegens get it from. Did your doc discuss with you how to raise your test levels?

I take a very good multi but I am still deficient in zinc for some reason I haven't quite figured out yet. I have added elemental zinc every evening.

Check out my new journal thread for details.

Good to hear your shoulder injury is not very serious. How much are you spending on food in a week at the mo.
