Huge Legs....

Recommended Posts

Anyone got some ideas on what are the best excercises to increase quads and calves??

I presently do Squats 80kgs, Leg Press 120kgs ( bit light as just started), lunges with 10kgs dumbells, extns heavy as possible. Calves varies but like to use the leg press a lot.

Leg press is a waste of time in my own opinion. Anyone can easily load up 400kg plus and grunt and groan for reps.

Trust me, you'll get more benefit sticking to the big compound lifts - try squats, front squats, deadlifts, stiff leg deadlifts, oh and keep up those lunges but try barbell ones. For strength and mass work in the 5-8 rep range (read:heavy) for 5 or so sets. Seated calf raise should take care of the rest.

so agree BK, if you go deep enough 400kg is a good weight and especially if you slow it down a bit and come out of the bottom from a standing start (i.e. pause for 1/2 second and power up pushing with the heels) for all but the strongest..of course Bman was probably referring to the quarter depth movements done by many. 8)

You have some of the best exercises there already, standing & seated calf raises aren't too bad either.

Sweet, now donkey raises, will need a big fella to sit on my back right? haha

Read and noted, got some smooth moves, just more walking lunges, squats, leg press done properly. I think the magic trick is just getting lean enough. Legs tend to look smaller and flat just because chicks need to get leaner, that is my cunning plan

For some reason when I do heavy leg press I always tweak my adductors. So lately I have switched to staggered leg press, one foot high on the plate the other low. Still going deep, obviously the weight is lower, but I feel like I'm getting more out of it.

Most people don't train their legs hard enough. They are a large muscle group & can take a hammering.

If your gym's got it, try iso leg extensions for quads (separate weight for each leg)works the teardrop well.

Done right, sissy squats are a killer :)

For calves, use the leg-press, ball of foot on platform.

i see alot of people when doing leg presses tend to lock their legs straight, then bringing it back down, which is why they can load up to 400kgs no problems. but try not locking your legs (ie, stop just before your legs are about to lock up,pause, then bring it back down). I tried this and has really worked well around my glutes, hamstrings and quads

smith machine hack squats tears the quads apart, do this followed by some heavy extns and you'll be laughing. i manage to get a lot out of leg press, nice and controlled concentrating on the movement and keeping constant tension. they have their place.

Yeah do the extns already heavy as poss but will try one legged and I use leg press often for calves. What the heck is a sissy squat or am I being daft? Hack?

Nope, it's just not something folks would admit to doing/ being :D

Have a look at http://www.bodybuilding.com/fun/exercises.php?Name=Weighted+Sissy+Squat

My trainer had me whimpering with just a ten-kg plate...

I don't think sissy squats are going to give you huge legs.

Keep to the simple stuff. Bluto on here definatly knows about adding leg mass - looks like he has tree trunks attached to his hips

As for leg press, theres a guy at my gym with 34inch legs who uses the machine pretty heavily - albiet with nearly 800kg attached.
