Planning on Emmigrating to NZ

Hi there to all the brothers (& sisters) in the iron game from sunny South Africa.

Me and my family are planning to settle in NZ in the near future. Comming over in Sept for a LSD(look, see, decide) trip and possibly some job interviews.

Have been in the iron game for 11 years straight now of which 4 years was as competive powerlifter. After a bad back injury 3 yrs ago I went back to bodybuilding training although I still do a fair amount of strength training. (functional strength is important to me).

The reason I joined this board, is to get an idea of what is going in the bodybuilding circles in Nz as I will be hopefully joining the "iron community" in your country in the not to distant future.

Thanx to all the guys that welcomed me to the board. Frogie , thanx for the offer, maybe we can meet at a gym one day when I'm there and go and do a workout together.By the look of it, I think that this is the right place be if I want to know whats going on in the iron game down under. Know quite a few people in NZ but none of them are into the gym scene, so they can't give me any info.

When we visit in Sept I will probably spent most of my time in the Auck area as I have some family and friends there. (Northshore). Any hardcore gyms in that part of town that is worth visiting (frogie)? Me and the wife will most likely also visit Wellington as well, because 3 of my previous colleague's are living there and they invited me to visit them as well. Pity Christchurch is so way out, from what I heard it's quite a beautifull place, but so is most of the country apparently.

Will see you guys in the forums as I have quite a few questions to ask.

sweet as. might catch you when you come over. go check out auckland. the rest of the country is a bit misty and not much there :)

Check out Auckland, sure...and see why three out of four kiwis choose to live anywhere else LOL

Wellington's not a bad place at all, some good gyms, handy to everywhere else... and at least one of the spin instructors at my gym's from South Africa...at least one of the local supermarkets carries some South African grocery products too (if that's likely to matter).

Gidday man. Good to have you with us online, and hopefully with us in person soon.

There are certainly some great hardcore gyms in and around Wellington (I think there was topic about them in the Gyms forum). I'm sure there are also good gyms on the North Shore too, but I don't have any experience there.

I will definitely check out gyms forum. Most of my qeustions regarding gyms in NZ are probably already answered there, if not, I'll just ask.

The better I get to know these boards, the more I'm impressed. Always thought that the New Zealanders just played rugby (sportwise) and nothing else.

Just shows you how wrong you can be.

Most play rugby...

most play soccer actually

I would never have thought that, but so I learn something new here everyday.

Gymrat: Thanx for your info on the South Island gyms. If I dare to venture so far south I will definitely check out the gyms that you have recommended.Chances are that I will most likely only visit Christchurch on the South Island. Heard that Dunedin is quite a cold place (especially in the winter) and I am not very found of the cold. But if I settle in Nz, I will definitely explore the whole country including the "deep south".
