Too low on your squats? Puhleese... I don't buy that for a moment. I'd guess you thought your leg press strength would transfer over well to the squat. It hardly does, the leg press almost completely neglects your core strength and teaches you nothing about staying tight with a bar on your back. Deep front squats would be ideal to bring up abdominal strength, isolation ab work doesn't cut it.

Leg training can be hard work and it's important to learn to love the squat. You said something about having a 250kg squat earlier. That's not going to happen by accident, especially a deep, below parallel one. If you're ever in Auckland, let me know and we can train legs if you want.

I said that 250kg was a goal of mine. Don't expect it to happen before then end of the year tho. :pfft:

Maybe, I'm not going too low, but the point where I was going to was hard to stay stable in. Like I said, just focusing on getting my form right at the moment. Still playing around with leg position.

I'll be in Auckland near the start of June to train with some big boys up there and get some tips on my training. PM me your details and I will give you a bell.

Always keen to get advice, and costructive critisism as much as possible.

Who cares what the weights are. Bodybuilding is about the love of training, not comparing weights.

Half of you guys don't post anything in this journal apart from "ohh whats you squat so i can compare..". Which ain't cool.

IMO since you already have a big press, I think you should cut those and do like an extra 5 sets of squats, i'm usually on the rack for like 45 minutes on leg days lol...and theres only one squat rack at my gym so I can always see a few angry faces waiting for me to finish  Anyways bro are you going for the 200 bench on saturday? I may be keen to come out, just got to see what times i'm working so i'll let you know.

Cheers bro. Completely agree.

I come from a backround in boxing, I don't know why so many people are hating on my lacking leg strength

Yeah bro, Gunna do some dynamic stuff tonight possibly, and aim for the 200 on Sat. I feel strong at the moment now that my flu has passed so keen to rip into it. Need one of the big boys to spot me on it as I don't want another pec tear :( . Will be happy with a 190kg for 1 locked out but think the 200 is possible.

Eh? Nah bro, just to keep track of it for myself mainly. Have an ex trainer and a couple of mates who come on to see how my progress is coming along as well.

I'm not talking up my leg strength at all. It's pretty shit at the moment. Spending fucking ages on here trying to justify it isn't worth my time tho. I bet if my upper body was shit then it wouldn't be such a big deal.

I'll tell you when I see you next. I'll be eating some tomorrow no doubt. Kicks ass tho.

Had a mean workout tonight with my coach. Nearly fainted half way through it was that intense.

Olympic lifts.

4 sets of 10 reps - last set was around 85kg

Standing military shoulder press - with lunge, hold for 5sec, feet back together, then weight down to chest again.

4 sets of 10 reps - worked up to about 85-90kg I think...

Shrugs:

50kg for 12 reps - 4 sets

Super set - Lateral raises:

15kg for 12 reps

Front delt raises:

4 sets of 12 reps - 10kg per am

Super set - Side lying rear delt raises:

3 sets of 10 reps - 8kg per arm?

Sam, that's ok. I'll PM a bit later.

No one is nailing you over lack of legstrength, just your attitude towards it. You clearly care about how heavy your bench is, would like to hit a 200kg squat ASAP, yet you don't post your weights. If you said you were learning to squat and doing triples with 140kg, then everyone would get off your back. Just saying....

Olympic lifts are awesome, which one are you doing though? I assume by the weight used you were doing 'cleans'?

Yeah I think so, just got taught them last night.

It was from the ground, into deadlift, then upright row, then bob under the weight, and front squat position.

What is a good weight for them relative to my other lifts? Once I got the form right the bar seemed to pop up pretty easy with the weight I was using - that was untill fatigue set in  Pretty tiring eh?

Yup, that's a clean. Make sure you keep your back tight and do them explosively. Quite hard to say what a good weight for you would be relative to your other lifts. Cleans have basically nothing to do with upperbody strength and a deadlift isn't a great indicator either. If we knew your ATG front squat with a clean grip then it would be easier to guess. I'd say a 120kg clean at your weight would be alright relative to a 200ish deadlift.
